Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

When we show up, we win.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

Dumb motherfuckers cannot understand a consequence that most 4 year olds have fully sorted out.

White supremacy is terrorism.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

Fight them, without becoming them!

Books are my comfort food!

Although it is in large part mocking me, this is still pretty damned funny.

And here are the Greatest Hits of Atrios.

Why dso you continue to heap slurs on this woman? And don’t you know that ‘media whore,’ while a regrettable term in this case, is the same thing as ‘whore?’ Really, it was just a coincidence that all the lefties who encouraged their readers to write, call, and e-mail Erick Erickson and leave nasty messages on his voice mail for his wife left out the word ‘media.’

And ‘niggardly’ is a racial slur!

OMG, Michael Moore really is fat! I’m changing my entire worldview.

I thought you were an ‘intellectually honest conservative,’ John Cole. I am done reading you until every post agrees with me!

Well, if you can’t admit any fault in your defense of Erick’s indefensible post… at least you have a sense of humor about it all! And I concur, it is pretty funny. Except for a few parts that are legitimately tragic.

Yeah. Because that is what I was doing. Defending Erick’s post.

Why does John Cole hate America?

I’m just trying to imagine a band consisting of Atrios, Krugman, Kaye Grogan, the Mustached Editors Guy and pre-crazy Brian Wilson. It’s not pretty.

Well, John, I knew what you were trying to say, but after four years of watching righties smear everyone who criticizes Bush’s foreign policy with exactly that kind of rhetoric, I’d say a lot of people are pretty defensive about this whole thing.

That said, you seem like a pretty honest and decent guy, and I definitely don’t think it’s fair to lump you in with the snarling Republican attack dogs who promote the “objectively pro-terrorist” narrative and other disingenuously mock-indignant right-wing smear tactics (I also don’t think that’s what Andrew was trying to do, by the way). Either way, I know I’m not “done reading you until every post agrees with me!”.

That’s how I took it, although I mostly agreed with the larger points you were making.

Either way, glad to see you still have a (somewhat brittle) sense of humor about it.
