Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

You cannot shame the shameless.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Am I the only one who noticed a marked uptick in spam e-mail the past week?

    John,

    I haven’t, but I use Cloudmark’s excellent anti-spam software.

I have noticed a substantial increase in spam e-mail in the last week. I’m not sure when it began, because I check my e-mail at home three or more times per day, but it’s getting to be a major part of my online time to block out and delete without reading anything that doesn’t come from an invited correspondent. I don’t trust any spam filter to tell the difference. I don’t think the answer is long prison terms or death sentences. This is just spam, not violent assault after all. One is always free to ignore everything. But I would like to find a nonviolent way to discourage this practice. There must be a reward in it for the spammers or they wouldn’t be doing this, so perhaps some way of denying them the reward or making it more expensive to obtain would make a dent. How about a “Spam the Spammer” program to swamp their inboxes with bogus positive responses that require live humans to evaluate and sort through?

I’ve noticed it for the past few days, even at my gmail account which usually remains immune. Thankfully most of them at least get shunted directly into the “spam” folder.

My guess is that it’s probably related to the recent Zotob infestations. Zotob mostly attacked computers at large corporate sites, which are valuable to spammers because of the high bandwidth available to them.

    Hello–

Using a simple AppleScript, I have been forwarding all the spam I receive to my ISP (Earthlink) and it seems to be producing results. Maybe it’s just a concidence, but there’s been a significant REDUCTION in spam over the last couple months. I used to get about 100 spams a day, and lately it’s dropped to around 50 (25 on weekends).

I am not a paid shill for Earthlink, by the way.
