Former Senator Carol Moseley-Braun, who in an irony free world would be portrayed only as a static display of incompetence and corruption (something that I was once again reminded after recently reading the entire Senate testimony of the Ginsburg confirmation) and not as an authority of anything other than outright stupidity, is now on CNN screaming and yelling that the government is not doing enough and that things are too ‘draconian’ to allow people to return to a ‘normal’ life in New Orleans.
I weep, and look for college football on tv.

I lived in Illinois when she was our senator. Every time she spoke we all cringed. Nice lady, but dumb as a box of rocks.
They made her Ambassador to New Zealand. She really didn’t have any clue where New Zealand was. Maybe there is an open position in Nepal. That would keep her busy, getting passage on a boat to get there.

I dunno about “draconian”, but many cognscenti are talking about periods of time from 6-18 months before the city is inhabitable again. Drainage, inspection of dwellings, recovery of human remains, decontamination ….. a huge mess. And nothing happens until the water is out of there, and that could take several months all by itself. That’s assuming that no other event comes along to put more water in there in the meantime.
I can’t even get my head around the size and extent of this set of problems, but it is annoying to already hear people talking glibly about “rebuilding” and that sort of thing.
Ms. Moseley-Braun generally doesn’t have her best moments under great pressure.
