Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

I was promised a recession.

Happy indictment week to all who celebrate!

Second rate reporter says what?

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Tick tock motherfuckers!

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

Take your GOP plan out of the witness protection program.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Come on, man.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

American History and Black History Cannot Be Separated

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Dumb and Dumber

Coming to a town near you:

Jane Fonda will join George Galloway, the most radical member of the British parliament, on a tour of the United States to accuse the Bush administration of spending money on Iraq that should be spent to help the poor of New Orleans.

The argument, likely to offend many Americans, follows British newspaper and television coverage of Hurricane Katrina that focused on the bungled handling of the aftermath of the storm.

Mr. Galloway, a passionate supporter of anti-Western causes in the Arab world, has been sneered at in Parliament as the “member for Baghdad” because of his regular trips there before the U.S.-led invasion.

He also has been accused of receiving allocations to buy and sell 20 million barrels of Iraqi oil, a charge he has strongly denied.

Miss Fonda was persuaded to join Mr. Galloway’s eight-city traveling show later this month by a friend, Eve Ensler, author of “The Vagina Monologues.” Mrs. Ensler had been impressed by Mr. Galloway’s pugnacious performance in May in front of a Senate committee investigating the U.N. oil-for-food scandal, the London Sunday Times reported…

Chris Dols, an organizer of the U.S. tour, said, “Jane Fonda and George Galloway will point out how much money is being wasted on the war when it is needed to help people at home.”

We haven’t even finished the rescue efforts, and these jackholes are accusing the administration of not spending enough money.

Boggle.

I really wish the more radical usual suspects from left would take vacations from current events. Frankly, their very presence ends up doing a disservice to their cause.

I’m one of the against the Iraq war folks from back before the first sortie was flow but the visages of these folks is just irksome and provokes a knee-jerk anti-Fonda so anti-the-Fonda cause reaction among many mainstreamers.

I hope that it’s fake. I fear that it might not be.

If Democratic politicans do not learn to ignore the far left dingbat patrol, a new opposition party WILL be formed. Disgust with the Bush team’s performance is palpable, but the Democrats are offering nothing but the worn out, rejected agenda that oh, so long ago was a winner. Poor Ms. Fonda behaves like an abused spouse whose father was an alcoholic – oh, oops . . . .

I know what your saying, but that’s the only thing I like about the whole thing!!!! Our little two boat fleet is grounded right now because of the spike in diesel. The margin for the price of fish hasn’t caught up. We literally had a mini meeting about using bio-diesel in our boats day before yesterday (something that had been discussed before without the urgency). Or french fry oil..anything…except patchouli oil of course. :P

If Democratic politicans do not learn to ignore the far left dingbat patrol

Then you should be happy as a pig in shit. Democratic politicians already ignore the fringe groups.

If you swap ‘Democratic’ with ‘Republican,’ I’ll admit that you have a point. It’s obvious that any Republican who wants to make it anywhere has to bend over to the Dobsonites. McCain promoting creationism pretty much nailed that particular coffin shut.

My point, if it even needs to made, is that someone (a Rove intern? Someone at FR?) dug up Ward Churchill from the obscurity he so richly deserves and paraded him as representing the left…yeah, that’s right. I know, I know, we did the same thing with Falwell and Robertson. You all would have never known they existed if we hadn’t found them kurking in the shadows, in their little backwater hideyholes..

In light of that, her tour can only help the Democrats, strengthen the anti-war movement (such as it is), change the minds (such as they are) of the pro-war people, and inspire the administration to change its policies.

I gather that the bulk of the statements here are pro Republican/anti Democrat–right vs left. They are one and the same at the congressional level. Both leading our country to certain economic destruction. Both willingly allowing our sons and daughters to die to enrich themselves and their cronies. You all may be for them but I can assure you–they are not for you. If Thousands of anti war activists had not raised hell we would still have soldiers dying in Viet Nam. War is a Racket.

Sheesh. You know that some of us are of an age to have participated or been directly affected by the anti-war protests of the late sixties and early seventies, right? You do realize that some of us watched the “anti-war” movement disintegrate once American college and university students were no longer feeling any risk, right?

Fonda’s little publicity stunt will serve no purpose except to provide the anti-American right with another figurehead at which to shoot, up there with Galloway and whats-his-name from Colorado. I’m with ppG — she needs to learn one fine unixism…STFU. Luser.

Sweetie, I was there, sneaking out of the house to march in 1969 (I was 12). As was pointed out above, most of the anti-war movement died when the draft went away. So did most of the good cool things, like stewardship of the land (I’m still there), everyone became yuppies and decided to vote Republican once they got their first 401K. Yeah..”the movement”…
