It’s not the best thing on TV, but there’s very little I have more fun watching.

I’ve always thought that guy was a great actor. It’s great to finally see him paired with a great character. The next-to-last episode (where Ari quits) was the best thing I’ve seen on television since Homicide went off the air.
4.
Trevor
The episode where they convinced Turtle that he was going to be drug tested before the video game tournament was pricless.
“Do you promise me you will never again make fun of my ethnic background and sexual orientation?”
“Leon- I can’t promise you that. I can promise you I will always apologize afterwards everytime I do.”

“Do you promise me you will never again make fun of my ethnic background and sexual orientation?”
“Leon- I can’t promise you that. I can promise you I will always apologize afterwards everytime I do.”
So good. I also loved when Leon gave him that little speech when he was driving him home and Ari said something like “if I was 22 and gay, you’d be getting laid right now”.

This is a put-on, right? You guys can’t be serious?
8.
DougJ
Nope, it’s real, ppgaz. It’s great show. Well, it isn’t that *great* a show but Jeremy Piven as Ari Gold is pure, unadulterated genius.
Nope, I think they’re serious. It took a while to grow on me but Entourage is pretty entertaining…but if they ever ditched Ari the show would be worthless. He alone is worth the price of admission.
10.
Jcricket
I am absolutely in agreement. Ari is the best thing about that show and it is one of the funniest things on television.
But it’s Lloyd, not Leon. As in, “Lloyd, if you ever do that again I will choke you out with a strap-on!”
Eric: [Eric and Ari are discussing film roles for Vince] Tom Cruise is going to play Pablo Escobar? C’mon, the guy’s not even Hispanic.
Ari Gold: Yeah, and Hilary Swank has a vagina, but she won an Oscar pretending she has a dick. That’s what actors do. They pretend.

ppGaz

Oh, I see. Well, to each his own, as they say. “Genius” to me means things like Shakespeare and Rachmaninoff. Hepburn and O’Toole in the Lion In Winter. Lincoln at Gettysburg.
Jeremy Piven should be given mini-god-like status….say, Mercury. When he is given a good vehicle he makes it great, when given a poor vehicle he makes it great…it really matters not, but the guy is a genius – he took a great vehicle and made it brilliant!

The more I read the comments here, the more I am convinced that there is a language barrier between left and right. Language barrier in that the definitions and implications of words are incomprehensible to the other side. If you on the left want to get more votes for your candidates in the future, you might want to reconsider how you demand things be defined.
16.

WTF are you talking about? I thought this thread was pimping a tv show?
How do you get from that to left, right, and candidates?
And some asshole in here called me pompous?
You people are nuts.
This thread gets bronzed, I swear to god. You people are on Mars.
Yet, you keep coming back for more disappointment. Maybe there’s something in that worth examining.

This thread was kinda funny until ppGaz came along. Now it’s freakin’ genius. Not Piven-genius, but almost.

ppGaz – the word “genius” has been used so much in the common vernacular that it’s lost much of its original meaning. I’ve heard people refer to a great burger as being “genius”. Mind you, there is some really creative, original and demented writing on TV lately, which is a refreshing change from the usual formulaic, blue-collar-schlub-with-hot-wife-smartassed-kids-and-meddling-in-laws type of show. I haven’t watched Entourage but have heard good things. I’m also impressed with Arrested Development, and My Name is Earl is showing a lot of early promise.
And besides, when life is stressing you out, and your country is going to hell in a handbasket, sometimes pure escapism is what’s needed.

One man’s Lion in Winter is another man’s Chasing Amy. Perhaps we should all apologize to ppGaz for being such commoners.

Is it possible to like both Lion in Winter and Chasing Amy?
24.
DougJ
I actually think that Jeremy Piven’s acting qualifies as genius in the original sense of the word.
ET, Homicide was a truly great show. I think it is the best show ever on television (at least non-pay television). It is the only television drama that deserves to be compared with a great movie or play, in my mind. Sadly, that probably explains why it wasn’t a commercial success.
“Homicide” was so good, even ppGaz might have enjoyed it…
27.
DougJ
I’ve heard The Wire is very good.
I’m a Law & Order fanatic, but it’s not Homicide. It’s easier to watch than Homicide though. It’s that lovely Newton unfiltered chardonnay you love to swill while Homicide is that great older Raveneau Chablis les Clos that will demand too much attention to pop open on a whim.
28.
ET
The Homicide episode with Vincent D’Onofrio was pretty damn brilliant – IMHO.
Don’t you mean “various Laws and Orders,” Mr Furious? (That’s a joke.)
Entourage took a while to grow on me but this past season was simply priceless. Not in the classical sense, mind you. More in the MasterCard sense.
(Just so ppGaz would understand the context, you know.)

Why do people like Chasing Amy? It’s Kevin Smith’s worst movie, and not by a small amount.
33.
Krista
I didn’t like Chasing Amy either. Some bits in some of his movies are funny, but for the most part, I find him kind of overrated.
And ppGaz…you know I love you to bits, but you’re the one who started dishing it out. I know you’ve taken (and relished) much worse jibes than this, though, so I’ll leave you to snipe with whomever you choose.
And bains — that comment made no sense whatsoever. Television viewing preferences have nothing to do with left vs. right. A lot of people here attach politics to anything they can, but that was beyond desperate.
34.

Hate Chasing Amy. Can’t stand that Joey Lauren Adam woman — that was the year of the squinty-eyed blonde: her, Jewel, Rene Zellwegger.

DougJ – they do all look alike, don’t they? On an off-note, will Renee Zellwegger EVER realize that the pursed-lip, closed-mouth smile just makes her look like she’s suffering from bad gas?
Why do people like Chasing Amy? It’s Kevin Smith’s worst movie, and not by a small amount.
That’s saying something. As a comic geek who worked (tangentially) in the industry and even met Smith once, nobody wanted him to suceed more than me. I thought “Chasing Amy” was alright. I wanted it to be better, but alas, it was somewhat disappointing. “Mallrats” was also crap. Basically, I’ve been forced to admit, Smith’s simply not that talented.
The worse Smith movie? “Dogma.” Perhaps the worse movie I’ve seen in ten years, if not ever. Awful. Shut it off at the part with the Monster of Living Shit.
