Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

If you are in line to indict donald trump, stay in line.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

Everyone is in a bubble, but some bubbles model reality far better than others!

Peak wingnut was a lie.

Glad to see john eastman going through some things.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

If you’re pissed about Biden’s speech, he was talking about you.

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

“Why isn’t this Snickers bar only a nickle?”

In short, I come down firmly on all sides of the issue.

Rather Stupid

Dan Rather, on why he is not pursuing the Bush National Guard story:

Rather also expressed suspicion about bloggers’ role in publicizing CBS’s mistakes in the whole Memogate affair.

“There are some strange, and to me, still mysterious things, certainly unexplained things that happened about how it got attacked and why, even before the program was over,” Rather said, adding that his network was derelict in not “knowing enough of how quickly bloggers could strike.”

Not bloggers. Coordinated noise machine. Right-leaning bloggers create news not by blogging per se but by feeding seamlessly into the rightwing radio/print/TV enterprises. Left-leaning bloggers could be so lucky.

    It ain’t luck there Tim.
Right leaning bloggers got Dan Rather on false documents and Eason Jordan on unsubstantiated smears.

Left leaning bloggers got some guy nobody had every heard of named Gannon or Guckert and his you know what.

The first two were real scandals, one where the biggest news name of a major broadcaster put out faked documents in an attempt to change a presidential election, one where the head of the second most popular cable news network was spreading bogus, murder accusations about our military in a foreign country.

The lefty coup was an unknown guy who they said didn’t deserve press credentials because he was administration friendly. Of course, the same sources never have a problem with Helen Thomas having press credentials. You really don’t want me quoting her to prove my point.

You have to love Dan Rather,
“There are some strange, and to me, still mysterious things, certainly unexplained things that happened about how it got attacked and why, even before the program was over,” Rather said, adding that his network was derelict in not “knowing enough of how quickly bloggers could strike.”

Dan Rather answers that age-old question, “Can I still be paranoid if they really are out to get me?”
    Yes Dan, yes you can.

    Veeshir,

Out of all of the possible administration scandals that a person could name you pick Guckert’s prong. My friend, that says more about you than it does about us.

No, that’s the lefty bloggers coup.
Do you have another example? I named the two biggest by the right blogosphere and the only one I know about by the lefties.

If you have a better example of a lefty coup, tell me.

I don’t count Trent Lott because that was driven by the right as much as the left.
Dan Rather and Eason Jordan were generally defended by the left and Gannon was generally made fun of by the right, hence the best link I could think of that would drive that point home. It’s not that the right defended Gannon, it’s that they made fun of how and why he was attacked.

You pointed out the blogger issues that became major media stories. If the leftwing blogs brought up numerous Bush administration scandals that did not become stories, that serves to prove my point. Thanks for playing.

” even before the program was over” shows just how up-to-date Dan is. That, like the documents, was debunked within hours.

You pointed out the blogger issues that became major media stories. If the leftwing blogs brought up numerous Bush administration scandals that did not become stories, that serves to prove my point. Thanks for playing.

All the gossamer scandals of the lefty blogs didn’t take down the president. That’s why I noted the only lefty scalp taken that I know of. I didn’t point out the ones that became major media stories, I pointed out the ones where the righty blogs actually accomplished something.
Except for Gannon, the only thing left-wing blogs like Kos have done is have the Dem candidates lose by less than they were expected to lose.

The righty blogs have credibility, most of the lefty blogs attacked Bush and the GOP for silly stuff so they don’t.
I could name many “scandals” promoted by the lefties that became major media stories but were bogus. Remember the “Scandal” about Bush supposedly wearing a wire during a debate? You know, the one that turned out to be a bullet-proof vest? How about “Bush Knew”? That one was on the front page of the NY News and Hillary Clinton brandished that issue on the floor of the Senate. I could go on for hours about the gossamer scandals. The ones that, when you look closely, they disappear but the lefty blogs keep hammering away at them.

You called them “coordinated noise machines”. They’re not coordinated, they just see an issue and actually get to the bottom of it, using the facts.
While some are surely just noise machines, the big ones have their following because of their credibility. I would believe Jeff Golsdstein of Protein Wisdom long before I would trust the NY Times. They’ve been caught in too many “mistakes” that they never correct while Jeff will put a correction in the post, or if it’s serious enough, he will dedicate a complete post to the correction.
That’s the difference, credibility and facts.

That’s my point. I have no idea what yours is, I’ll accept your statement that you have proved it because I assume you proved it to yourself.
