God got Tom DeLay:
copy of the still-unfinished film, entitled The Big Buy, was obtained by National Review Online Friday.
On several occasions in the film, Earle engages in monologues on what he believes is the sinister effect of money in politics. “The root of the evil of the corporate and large-monied interest domination of politics is money,” Earle says as he takes the filmmakers on a nighttime drive around Austin. “This is in the Bible. This isn’t rocket science. The root of all evil truly is money, especially in politics. People talk about how money is the mother’s milk of politics. Well, it’s the devil’s brew. And what we’ve got to do, we’ve got to turn off the tap.”
In another scene, Earle describes how he deals with offenders in cases like the campaign-finance investigation. “It’s important that we forgive those who come to us in a spirit of contrition and the desire for forgiveness. That’s important. But if they don’t, then God help them.” The film then dissolves to a picture of DeLay.
The big guy is probably still peeved at DeLay about that Schiavo business. Although why he went after him with a prosecutor rather than the more traditional lightning bolt is beyond me…
*** Update ***
Here is Delay’s district:

Checking out DeLay’s district, maybe God was chucking Rita at DeLay for his ‘sins.’ Ronnie Earle was just the backup plan.
And no, I am not serious about any of this.

Because God helps those who help themselves, especially when they do the Lord’s legal work. When Scapedonkeys Fight Back! News at 3am.
TheocracyIsComing
Is it just me or does Delay’s district look like a fetus?
Andrei
Good God… it appears that DeLay would have been my congressman had I stayed back at home in La Porte, TX. Now I’m really going to be ill.
Mike S
Anybody have a picture of what the old dist. looked like?
jobiuspublius
It kinda lokks like a pacman. An evil one aimed for NOLA.
Horshu
Mike S: It looks like an evil half-troll, half-elf. Oh, wait, you said it’s *district*…my bad.

I suspect John Cole means THE BIG GUY, not the big guy.
In any case, the effects of money on politics is well-documented in less religious texts. I suspect that great swaths of this country speak like Earle does, seeing things in terms of good and evil and God, so I’m not sure what the General Stupidity part is, unless John here is saying that a belief in God is stupid. Or perhaps a belief in a God that is personal is stupid.
Otherwise, it sounds like the same old Rovian “kill the messenger with slander” kinda thing. Earle’s not the least bit interesting to me, just the charges against DeLay and whether or not they’ll stick in court.

Here’s my congressional district:

It’s a Democratic district.
Pot, meet kettle.

My sneaking suspicion is that the natural disaster epidemic is more related to slavery than any modern misbehavior (see: sodomy, gambling, rap music).
Any state that joined the Confederacy is ripe for chastisement. No expiration date.

Good grief, I just clicked on George’s link to that district in Cook County. Wow. That makes the Gerrymander look positively tame by comparison.
What’s the narrow strip on the western edge? The Interstate?

Holy smokes (so to speak): Can you imagine the outcry if a conservative Republican prosecutor used God’s name and the Bible to go after Nancy Pelosi or a liberal leader in Congress?
The uproar from the liberals and the liberal press would make your ears bleed. The thorazine wing of the Democratic Party would go, well nuts.
Admittedly, most of them are already there, so it’d be a short trip.

Whee!
Corrine Brown’s district is still rather…odd.

Well done.
Mike
Gee,
Why isn’t anyone asking what this MOVIE would have been like that they’ve been working on for TWO YEARS without an indictment? Kinda anti-climax wouldn’t you say?
However, God forbid anyone question Earle’s motivations, I’m sure his heart is pure.
JWeidner
Call me crazy, but I’m sure I’ve read that Earle has prosecuted more Democrats than Republicans during his tenure. My guess is his motivations are purer than DeLay’s.
demimondian
I wish I completely believed that.
Let’s sit back and wait this one out. DeLay is going to come to trial. Depending on how many of the scum around him have turned, we’ll either see the bugman get the treatment, or he’ll walk away, a sadder but wiser specimen of genus Troglodytes.
JWeidner
hey, when your motivations are compared to DeLay’s, you can only come out smelling like roses…
I don’t know what to think about all this either, but I’m sure not going to bite on the hook the Repubs are casting about – Earle being a partisan hack solely motivated to bring down DeLay. I’ll wait to form my own opinion based on what happens.
The Disenfranchised Voter
I think we need to remember that Earle didn’t indict Tom Delay, a grand jury did…

Bad link up there, use this one…
Grand jury foreman defends DeLay indictment

“I think we need to remember that Earle didn’t indict Tom Delay, a grand jury did…”
Yep, the SIXTH grand jury he seated to investigate. Seems the previous five would not.
Darrell
Funny how that detail escapes mention in so many MSM news reports

You do realize I’m going to need to see some evidence before I believe that claim…
It would be greatly appreciated.

Fact: Ronnie Earle has prosecuted 12 Democrats, and 3 Republicans, for various crimes.
Fact: Ronnie Earle was considered so “partisan” that the local Republican Party didn’t even run a candidate against him all through the 1980s.
DeLay keeps running his mouth on TV, with more and more lies, he’s just fitting himself for that orange jumpsuit.
