Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has a hyperextended left knee and a bone bruise sustained during a game-winning field goal drive at the end of a 24-22 victory over San Diego on Monday night, but hasn’t been ruled out of Sunday’s game against Jacksonville.
The injury isn’t as severe as it initially appeared to be – immediately after the game, coach Bill Cowher said “it looked bad.”
“It’s a deep sigh of relief,” Cowher said Tuesday.
Roethlisberger, 16-1 as an NFL regular-season starter, was injured with 1:05 remaining when Chargers defensive end Luis Castillo’s helmet collided with his left knee as Roethlisberger was completing a 9-yard pass to Antwaan Randle El.
Roethlisberger lay in pain on the turf for several minutes, clutching at his knee, before limping off the field. He was removed from the field on a cart, his knee heavily wrapped, after Jeff Reed kicked a 40-yard field goal with six seconds remaining, but he had no bandage on the knee when he got dressed shortly after that.
Roethlisberger had an MRI test shortly after the team returned to Pittsburgh on Tuesday morning.
Phew.

Praise Jesus
forgot all this miers crap
HERE is something I care about
Although, in retrospect, the Steelers do have the deepest QBs of any team in the league, since all three guys on the roster have led teams to the playoffs

I don’t care if the Steelers win the Super Bowl, or don’t make it to the playoffs. I like Pittsburgh and have enjoyed visiting there, and admire it as a great sports town. Mazeroski’s drive to left center in Game Seven is right up there on my Greatest Sport Moment list. The fact that the spot is commemorated there where Forbes Field used to be is just one of many ways that Pittsburgh makes itself a great sports town. The Immaculate Deflection notwithstanding.
But the reason I hope that Ben can avoid surgery is that he’s a great young talent and he’s great for the game.
So here’s hoping he is back on the field with a minimum of down time.

It’s scary when you think that Big Ben does what he does with practically no experience in the majors. In five years Pittsburgh could easily have the best quarterback in football.

I held my breath last night. I’m glad to hear this, although I look forward to the Pats kicking your asses, (or a last minute field goal- -more likely) to return to our Super Bowl. Recklessburger, (or however he spells his name,) is a blast to watch, and is obviously having a lot of fun out there.
