Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. keep building.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

He wakes up lying, and he lies all day.

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

We will not go quietly into the night; we will not vanish without a fight.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

Not loving this new fraud based economy.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Anne Laurie is a fucking hero in so many ways. ~ Betty Cracker

He really is that stupid.

It is not hopeless, and we are not helpless.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

This must be what justice looks like, not vengeful, just peaceful exuberance.

BTW- This might be a new record for the earliest eruption of a flame war in a comments thread here.

Nah — DougJ and I have tangled in replies one and two at least once. It’s hard to be quicker than that.

Now you all be nice, hear?

Where do I sell my vote?

Why aren’t we hearing about the good things going on around vote selling? After all, we’ve turned the corner on electoral trustworthiness.

actually this is a great blog. The comments section on most blogs are painfully unreadable. Here I find you get a interesting mix of viewpoints and, while most of the comments predictably have more heat than light, every now and then a topic is explored and examined in a way that I actually find quite enlightening.

It also allows some of us to blow off some steam in a socially acceptable manner (relatively) when we are frustrated with what we see happening around us.

Where do I sell my vote?

I’ve set up a 900 number that is based in the Mariana Islands. As soon as the deal goes through with casino cruise ship line, we’ll be in a good spot to dump the proceeds into a rare coin fund that will support the Balloon-Juice ticket.

But can a blog be nominated for more than one category? Balloon-Juice should really be nominated for Best Liberal Blog and Best Sports Blog.

I agree…this blog rocks. Most blogs either have so little commentary, and so infrequent updates, that I can’t be bothered, or else they’re completely inundated with illiterate troglodytes whose idea of discourse is, “You’re soooo stooopid!” For the most part, even when the folks on this blog get into bloodshed, it’s SMART bloodshed, and usually very entertaining.

I hardly ever agree with you but you are the best conservative blog so you are nominated by this left of center guy.

Just stopped over to see if anything was posted about this:

The Pentagon has confirmed that US troops used white phosphorus during last year’s offensive in the northern Iraqi city of Falluja.

I thought they said it wasn’t used.

“It was used as an incendiary weapon against enemy combatants,” spokesman Lt Col Barry Venable told the BBC – though not against civilians, he said.

Then they said it was only used for illumination.

“When you have enemy forces that are in covered positions that your high explosive artillery rounds are not having an impact on and you wish to get them out of those positions, one technique is to fire a white phosphorus round or rounds into the position because the combined effects of the fire and smoke – and in some case the terror brought about by the explosion on the ground – will drive them out of the holes so that you can kill them with high explosives,” he said.

Globalsecurity.org, a defence website, says: “Phosphorus burns on the skin are deep and painful… These weapons are particularly nasty because white phosphorus continues to burn until it disappears… it could burn right down to the bone.”

A spokesman at the UK Ministry of Defence said the use of white phosphorus was permitted in battle in cases where there were no civilians near the target area.

But Professor Paul Rodgers of the University of Bradford department of peace studies said white phosphorus could be considered a chemical weapon if deliberately aimed at civilians.

And this is me, seriously doubting that anyone will ever consider my little ramblings as being a Best Of Anything At All. Not even Best New Blog By Someone Named Off Colfax. And you have to admit, that’s a pretty specific category.

Have to be pretty odd to come in second place when there’s only a field of one.
