Steeler Football

The Steelers take on the hated Ravens today, and if you are in your 70’s or 80’s, and a fan of football before the forward pass was instituted, this might be the game for you.

Tommy Maddox v. Kyle Boller.

Blech.

*** Update ***

This game is painful to watch. The Steelers look bad, I hate the Ravens, the announcers are awful, and this officiating crew is on crack.

Personally, I wish all of our games were officiated by Ed ‘Hercules’ Hocule or the skinny black guy with a mustache (can’t remember his name, but I think he is the best in the NFL).

*** Update ***

The evil bastards from Baltimore win in OT, 16-13. On a positive note, at least we weren’t watching our QB of the future- they were. Also, the loss was made easier since we sucked so bad the whole game I sort of felt like we were going to lose since the 1st quarter, and it was not unexpected.

John, have some sympathy for those of us in the other half of Pennsylvania. Half our offensive is second-string and our pathetic excuse for a back-up quarter fumbles the ball ON THE FUCKING SNAP.

Good luck to the Steelers, though.

Yeah, I’d have more sympathy for you people in Pittsburgh and your tepid offense, if it weren’t for the fact I’ve been a Saint’s fan since the inception of the team (the curse of geography). We’ve won one playoff game in our history. ONE.

Fortunately, the Stillers have been my go to, auxillary, back-up team to root for ever since I won a dollar from my dad (a silver and black man) on the “Immaculate Reception.”
Man, how he grumbled pulling that thing out of his pocket.

Last year, I got home early for Thanksgiving and my 80-year-old grandfather and I were watching the Bowling Green/Toledo game that was on Tuesday night. He was a H.S. football coach through the 50s & 60s in Central PA and his playbook consisted solely of “Trap Right”, “Trap Left” and “Punt”.

Bowling Green and Toledo both had those fast aerial offenses last season and it was a scoring explosion. I think I remember both teams scoring 40+ points. Sometime in the 3rd quarter, my grandpa shook his head and said, “This doesn’t even look like football to me. I’m going to bed.”

Ed Hocule is a total badass. It think he does a great job, and I just love that he is as jacked as half the guys on the field. I believe he is a lawyer as a day job…

I’m just glad the game wasn’t aired in my town. Even two seconds of Maddox while channel surfing would have been too much.

Bah, the game is the Colts and the Bengals. I don’t have a horse in this race, but the offenses are sure making it exciting.

If you don’t have a horse, does that mean you wanted the Baltimore Colts to win? ;)

Yeah, I’m almost glad I didn’t see that. Though hearing updates from the internet were . . . painful.

Hocule and Grier are easily the best refs in the league. You have to wonder how many other good ones they’d have if they ever let it be a full-time gig.

Oh, and speaking of bad officiating, that flag happy crew we met over in San Diego was at the Washington game. Yeah, that didn’t go too well. The officials threw a flag with seconds left when Oakland had knelt to end the game to call an offsides penalty, forcing everyone to do it again, even though they knew they would do the exact same thing. Grrrr . . .

It baffles me that Randle El only gets the snap for one or two trick plays. Why not let him pass? It’s not like he can do any worse.

Wasn’t Brian Billick considered an offensive genius when the Ravens hired him?

  22. 22.

    Ezert

    November 21, 2005 at 10:24 am

Yeah, Billick is the offensive genius. Just ask him.

    J. Michael, I think it’s a done deal Ben will be ready to go for the Colts. God knows gonna need him. Remember, he still has only lost to the Patriots.

No one mentioned the poor officiating? Two missed interference calls on passes to Cedric Wilson on consecutive plays. Then on the third play, the refs whistle it dead at the snap but a Baltimore defender grabs Maddox and whips him to the ground and no flag there.
