Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

It’s easier to kill a dangerous animal than a man who just happens to have different thoughts/values than one’s own.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

“That’s what the insurrection act is for!”

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

He wakes up lying, and he lies all day.

When we show up, we win.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

So many bastards, so little time.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

I didn’t have alien invasion on my 2023 BINGO card.

There are no moderate Republican – only extremists, and cowards.

I’m sure you banged some questionable people yourself. We’re allowed to grow past that.

Republicans can’t even be trusted with their own money.

Lost

Just watched the first two episodes of Season One of Lost. So far, so good. Quick notes:

1.) I hope if I am ever a survivor of a plane wreck, it is on a desert island with a bunch of hot 20 year olds who like to run around in the surf in their lace underwear.

2.) Funny how incestuous tv is. The creator, JJ Abrams, made Alias. A lot of writers from Alias also wrote for BTVS and Angel. I have seen a bunch of actors/actresses who have been in both Alias and Lost, and one who was in Angel.

Lost’s first season was superb, but the second season has been disappointing as hell. I’ve switched to Veronica Mars, which rocks and should be watched by more people. Hint, hint, hint.

I warn you, the first season of lost is addictive, I’ve had more than a few friends who borrowed my complete 1st season dvd call me to curse me the next day having stayed up till 3am the night before. Can’t speak as to season 2, havn’t seen any of it yet, why was it dissapointing?

Season 2 has been quite different from Season 1, as it’s being driven more by happenings on the island than establishing character backstories. It’s moving very very slowly, and the “tell me something” crowd is getting more than a little miffed.

They’ve piled on a few more mysteries, but really nothing of major consequence has been solved yet (although we did just find out exactly why Kate was on the run).

Also, a lot of the characters from Season 1 have been almost invisible.

I’m a big fan of The Wire on HBO, and sometimes when i’m watching a Law and Order rerun, or SVU rerun, I’ll see someone from The Wire. I swear i’ve seen half of the Wire cast pop up on one Law and Order or another.

The explanation a friend of mine gave is that all three Law and ORders are actually shot in NY, and since the Wire is actually shot on location in Baltimore, they use mostly NY based actors instead of LA ones, and since there are simply fewer TV actors in NY, you tend to see a lot of the same faces pop up.

There’s also about five people that were on “Homicide” that are or have been on The Wire. that connection is rather easy to explain, though, as they’re both David Simon shows and both filmed in Balimore.

Yeah, that was hot when Hurley did that, wasn’t it? :)

It’s a bit more than that. “Homicide” had a couple of cross-overs (during sweeps) with “Law & Order”. The producers of “Homicide” then moved on to “Oz” on HBO. You’ll see many “Homicide” people show up in “Oz” and also on one or more of the Law & Orders.

    * Richard Belzer’s “Homicide” character, Munch, moved from “Homicide” to “L&O: SVU”
    * Clayton LeBouef played a continuing character in Homicide, and has appeared in a few L&O episodes.
    * Zeljko Ivanek played the DA in “Homicide”, and the Governator in “Oz” and a guest spot in L&O
    * Kirk Acevedo (“Oz”) then joined L&O: Trial by Jury
    * Chris Meloni (“Oz”) then joined L&O: SVU
    * JK Simmons (“Oz”) then joined L&O (and was a guest in a very early L&O before “Oz”)
    * Eamonn Walker (“Oz”) was a guest in previous episodes of “Homicide”)
    * BD Wong (“Oz”) joined L&O: SVU

There may be a couple more, but I need to get some work done sometime today. =)

Nah. Lost Season 2 is doing just fine. We’re actually learning things – even if they lead to new questions, at least we have some progress. Overall, I’m pleased with this season so far.

Veronica Mars is ace, and I agree with those who think LOST has been slow this year. Aside for the first couple of episodes I’ve actually found it down right boring.

I love ‘Lost.’ What’s great is that ‘Lost’ is basically a soap opera that men can watch without to pretend they don’t.

You can’t really compare Season 1 vs. Season 2. It’s two totally different things. Remember, we didn’t know anything about these people (starting the show off that way was brilliant) and part of the fun was the backstories about all of them. Well, now everything has pretty much been told (unless I missed where they showed how Locke became paralyzed, they still need to address that), so they need to concentrate on what’s happening on the island.

John if you want, I can burn Season 2 to DVD when it’s finished so you won’t have to wait.

I’ve been lurking here for a while (sorry for the peeping!)…but I had to jump in to the LOST discussion!

I have to agree with Jay. I’m enjoying Season 2 even though it is slow at times. There has been some action here and there, but we’re finding out more about the island….Season 1 established a lot about the characters for us.

Are the Season 1 DVDs worth buying for the extras?

Six Degrees of “Homicide” is really easy to play…

Chris Meloni played a bounty hunter on “Homicide” two-parter (crossed with L&O?)

J.K. Simmons played a serial killer on “Homicide” that was also a crossover with “L&O”

Peter Gerety played a uniform officer early in the series who then became a detective and joined the squad later. Also has a recurring role on “L&O” as a lawyer.

Callie Thorne (Det. Ballard) from Homicide has recurrinfg roles on “The Wire” and “L&O:SVU”. Also on “Rescue Me.”

Vincent D’Onofrio had a powerful guest appearence on “Homicide”

Giancarlo Esposito (SA Giardello) has appeared as various characters many times on various “L&O’s”

Melissa Leo (Det. Kay Howard) appeared multiple times on “L&O”

Reed Diamond (Det. Kellerman) has L&O as his first ever TV credit and then last month just appeared on L&O again.

And those are just the main character types. The recycling of suspects, etc is staggering. Some really good actors have gone from the “The Box” to bigger and better things.

“Homicide” is the best show ever on television, in my opinion. I’ve heard NBC will be starting an all-crime/police network. If they don’t feature “Homicide” prominantly on that network, they are crazy.

Lost is just dandy, providing you don’t expect things to ever get resolved (by which I mean, you have the vaguest inkling as to what, actually, is going on) to any degree. That would mean The End, which just ain’t gonna happen. Maybe never, but never say…

So far, the only thing you do know (if you’re lucky) about Lost is the backstory. Everything else is the mindfuck.

I do like Lost, but the animals all just disappeared? What was the black shadow? What was the giant thing in the trees that ate that pilot? Simple questions I would like to see resolved.

I too love Lost but for every question that’s answered, two new ones are asked. However, the characters are so fascinating to me. I’ve posted an astrological profile of the characters for any who are interested at http://astrodynamics.blogspot.com/2005/12/astrology-of-lost.html.

Stormy – good point. I wonder if they received criticism of the mystical-magical plotlines and decided to focus more on the conflict between characters?

I’m basically just waiting for the maniacal billionaire to reveal himself and explain the rationale behind his little Golding-esque social experiment. I hope I’m wrong, though. That would stink if Abrams had no more imagination than that. I am worried, though…Abrams has shown symptoms of David E. Kelley syndrome (a kickass first season, and then everything slowly falls to hell.)

John you are about to experience the same thing my wife and I (and countless others) went through – missed the first season on TV and finally bowed to the pressure to watch it on DVD. Lost – literally – a week of life as we obsessively watched every episode for hours a day. Then season 2…on TV. Weeks between episodes. Sometimes just reruns…insanity!

I think season 2 is just fine. Sure the pace has slowed but the writers are really fleshing out a lot of characters, adding layers of mystery and plot (and future plot!) points and still producing a quality product. In fact “What Kate Did” was one of the best episodes in the series. (And now a month till the next one…see how God hates us?)

BTW you want to see people with too much time on their hands? Try some of the messege boards where different theories/clues are analyzed. Think the “Matrix” on steroids. One group is analyzing screencaps of the night sky in the background of certain scenes to find patterns and clues. Seriously.
