Just watched episode ten, with the Claire backstory. The psychic bit sketched me out a little, and Claire’s eyes are so blue they almost take your breath away.
And you just knew there was something wrong with this guy from the moment you saw him. Am I the only one who thinks he looks a lot like Nathan Filion, aka ‘Caleb’ in Season 7 of BTVS and ‘Malcolm Reynolds’ of Firefly/Serenity fame?
*** Update ***
Why don’t they just shoot Sawyer?
*** Update ***
They really gave John Locke an interesting character, sorta Yoda meets Mr. Miyagi meets Rambo. I have always liked that guy, and he was in Millenium, if I remember right.
At any rate, this is another one of those shows where the characters are developed well enough that you sit around and wonder which character is most like you.

What does “sketched me out” mean in standard English?
Her eyes are so muddy they smother you?
John Cole
Heh. boue = blue.
Sketched out= freaked out, on edge, tense, having the heebie jeebies, etc.
Jesse
John, have you seen the Hurley episode yet? That’s the best one.

John~
I know you’re depressed about the Steelers, but, really, Lost is not the answer.

Claire has blue eyes?! I never notice the chicks, they block the eye candy.
Psst! I really enjoyed Narnia, and I thought they did a really good job of following the book. After it was over, the audience applauded for a good 20 seconds and there were some woo-woos mixed in.(I realize that this sentence makes me appear to be like some geek boy hanging out on the Force.net with their pathetic gushing about audience reactions, but I am calling it as I see it. Deal.) When the credits roll, stay a few minutes so you don’t miss anything.
John Cole
You do realize you just described half the Balloon Juice readership, including me and Tim?
Stormy70
Why do you think I hang around. LOL!
I have to come clean and admit that these sites have been in my bookmarks for years:
The Force.net
Theonering.net
Themugglenet
I do cloak my geekiness in a normal exterior, almost like Batman.
ppGaz
You people are really weird.
Ben
I would say Nathan Filion looks a lot like Jason Bateman, of Arrested Development.
Stormy70
That’s it. Pistols at dawn!

The aforementioned actor William Mapother, aka Tom Cruise’s brother (Mapother is Tom’s real name) played essentially the same character in the pilot of the recently canceled Threshold, a show that had a lot of potential (as opposed to, say, Surface and Invasion).
HH
“Why don’t they just shoot Sawyer” is like “why don’t they just stake Spike.” I wasn’t a fan of Sawyer in season 1 but I’m on board now.
cd6
if you think claire is hot now, wait till shes given birth and then lost the baby weight in season 2
Andrei
William Mapother is Tom Cruise’s cousin, not brother.
FWIW, Tom Cruise’s real name is Tom Cruise Mapother III, His middle name really is Cruise, so he just dropped off his last name.

Hey, beware using IMDB on Lost stars. Sometimes the dates in which they played on Lost tips plot points. Such as 2004-2005, ya know?
StupidityRules
Threshold was crap. Alien sound infected human of the week. As opposed to Invasion or Surface where things actually happen that moves the story forward. But in the end I’m guessing none of the shows will survive to see a second season.
capelza
Terry O’Quinn or something like that..the man who plays Locke. I loved Millenium and was sorry to see it gone.
Invasion is great, and Surface not far behind. I hope that Invasion at least can go another season, hopefully following Lost will help.
Glad you have discovered Lost, great character studies and a compelling mystery. And Sayid IS very, very hot.
I rediscovered Firefly just as I started coming here…though I’ve yet to see the movie here in Hicksville.
Every Friday at seven pm I’m glued to the SciFi channel for the show now on it’s second cycle.

John, if you really enjoy the first season start checking out some of the sites the creators of the show have built around it. Many are just “puzzle box” thingies with weird, almost random images, sounds and info but they all seem to relate and some reveal/conceal much about the island. Try http://www.thehansofoundation.org or http://www.kingcrossstatepolice.com (www.bigspaceship1.com was pretty freaky for a while but seems dormant right now but that might change).
but don’t try them till after you’ve started the second season as they may tip off some plot elements you don’t want to know just yet!

“Why don’t they just shoot Sawyer?”
Keep watching.

Sans codpiece, I hope.

Things moved forward on Threshold quite rapidly… we learned more about the nature of the alien signal and what their ultimate goal was every week. We are finally getting just the tiniest clue about what’s even happening on Invasion ten weeks in. That makes Lost this season look like a rapidly-progressing story arc. And aside from William Fichtner the acting is atrocious (though they are nice actors to look at). On the other hand, Threshold had Carla Gugino, Brent Spiner, Peter Dinklage and Charles S. Dutton. No contest in the acting department.
Sorry about the Mapother stuff, I always get their relation confused.
HH
Actually the one downside to watching Lost only on DVD is that you can never take part in fun websites and things like that because you’ll always be a year behind. Plus I like the time between episodes to theorize, etc.
Terry O’Quinn was also in charge of the CIA in season 2 of Alias.
Jeff Miller
They don’t shoot (well … kill) Sawyer because he’s the most entertaining character on the entire show.
I mean, duh. :-)
