Finished season 1 of Lost. Loved it. Would it be a bad idea to start season two midstream, or should I just wait for the DVD next summer?

Buy a video iPod, you addict.

You could download the first part of the second season (10 eps so far) from iTunes or get it through bittorrent.

You definitely have to catch the first several episodes to discover the “secret” of the hatch which opens up a whole new plot line and then there’s the all important episode which details the “tailies” (in the back end of the plane) and their experiences on their side of the island. Right now if you just pick up you won’t know a lot of the characters or the background for some of the more important new mysteries. If you know anyone who has episodes saved on video or TIVO catch them there. Plus – this month is all friggin’ repeats anyway so you could probably catch up that way!
The great/frustrating thing about the series is that you could get a quick plot recap but there are so many important visual clues built into each episode that you miss 50% of the show not seeing it. Season 1 was more dramatic/suspensful but season 2 is more complicated/deeper with the hidden clues and references.

What simon said. You could also try eMule — open source and spyware free.

D/L emule. How do I use it?

Definitely try catching up. You’ll go crazy if you have to wait a whole year for the next DVDs to come out. I think iTunes is selling downloads of episodes for 2 bucks each. I’m sure you could also get them through Emule or Bearshare or a BitTorrent.
The next new episode doesn’t come on until January, so you have plenty of time to catch up with the second season. Trust me you don’t want to wait. The third episode of the second season is amazing. And the previews for the next new episode look awesome.
You can download emule here – http://www.emule-project.net/home/perl/general.cgi?l=1&rm=download

Woah- I can buy them? Will I be able to burn them to disc to watch on my DVD player, or will I have to watch them on the puter?
I would much rather buy them than have to put up with all the BS.
Jon
You’ll need iTunes (free; http://www.apple.com/itunes) and an account from the iTunes Music Store. You can only view them on your computer, but the fullscreen isn’t bad despite the native resolution being only 320×240 (a good codec covers all manner of sins).
Eps are $1.99 a pop. Several different shows are on there from both the ABC and NBC corporate families.

Download Azureus (also open source and spyware free), install, change one setting for where you want your files saved. Then, f you click on that link I gave above, you’ll see a torrent – “Lost Season 2 Episodes 1-9.torrent”. Click on it and tell the browser to open with azureus. Watch azureus come to life and most likely, by tomorrow morning, you’ll have high quality, commercial free versions of the first 9 shows sitting on your computer. Don’t forget to delete the torrent out of azureus (big red “x” button) after it’s moved to the bottom seeding window.
It seriously is really, really easy. After the first simple installation bit, you basically have to do nothing but click on a link.
Then mod your xbox for $60, install xbox media center and you can stream every show you download from your computer to your tv.
Or you can get a video ipod.

There’s no way to burn the iTunes ones to DVD, though.

For the love of Christ STOP!

Just download the episodes from Emule. If you wanted to try hard enough there are good sites out there to convert DIVX files (what you’ll most likely find them encoded into) from people’s ripped TIVO files (putting them from their TIVO to the Internet).
But seriously — get ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT. There’s two seasons on DVD and it’s only a few episodes into it’s last remaining episodes of season 3 on FOX.

They just reran episode four of this season and will be in reruns til January 11th I believe. Try to get your hands on the first few episodes and you could be all caught up by then. It’s definitely worth being current on the show, so you can check out some of the brilliant websites, etc.

Oh that really blows. I’ve been looking forward to a new episode, and now I have to wait more than a month since the last new one?
WHAT WILL I EVER DO?!?!??!
Think I like the show?

I would say to wait for the DVD to support the creators, in the mean time, have you seen the new Battlestar Galactica? If you haven’t, it is great stuff, having taken away my top spot for favorite sci-fi show from Firefly.
Krista
oopla – Warn me with a spoiler alert if you’re going to talk about episodes. Space Network (our version of the Sci-Fi channel) won’t be airing season 2 until January 14th
oopla
The only spoiler I will give is that Battlestar Galactica maintains a constant level of quality throughout the series. ;)
If memory serves the Space Network is in Canada, right? Well The Season 2.0 DVD set comes out Dec. 20th in America. 2.5 will be coming later. You might consider importing.
