Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

No Kings: Americans standing in the way of bad history saying “Oh, Fuck No!”

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

People are weird.

If rights aren’t universal, they are privilege, not rights.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

We still have time to mess this up!

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

Good golly Miss Molly… and I thought OUR tree was a shrine to Yuletide excess. How long does it take you to load that there pine with all those doodads, gimcracks, chotchkes, gizmos, and bits of bric-a-brac — and how long does it take for your spine to recover from the strain involved?

Happy Festivus to yez, John… and thanks for acting as custodian to the pack of crazed beasts that populate this blog. May your tooth and claw wounds be few in 2006.

    John,

I can so see you sitting in that chair by the tree, in your tweed jacket with patches on the elbows, smoking a pipe of vanilla tobacco and grading papers – probably while wearing big, pink, fuzzy slippers. :o)

Have a GREAT holiday and thanks for a great blog!

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Merry Christmas/Channukah/solstice/Kwanzaa/Festivus to everybody! This year my wife bought me a Le Creuset saucier, which shows that hints don’t need to have the subtlety to a sledgehammer (for example, her with the digital camera) to get through. I showed my appreciation by whipping up a Christmas creme brulee.

Today is the day when we celebrate our Savior’s birth. We give thanks for our blessing, both in this life and in the next. I give thanks not only for the grace that we have received but also for the wisdom that our leaders have receieved. I give thanks that we have a Commander-in-Chief who follows the way of the Lord. Let’s hope we get another in 2008.

Happy Xmas to my favorite closet liberal.

As anyone can see, your tree, viewed from outside the window, is leaning to the left. Very clever, John.

    I figured you’d have an aluminum pole…

How many times has Tunch tried to knock the tree over? Or does he just sleep under it?

    Merry Christmas, everyone.

The tree is not tilting- the photographer was.

This is at my parent’s house, and Tunch does not come home. There are already more than a dozen people, 3 cats, and two dogs, so I just leave Tunch home alone for two days. He has his own litle tree and about 2 dozen toys I opened right before I left.

Hi John! Just have a quick moment to catch up, but just want to wish everybody a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, etc. etc.

The tree looks lovely. Tell your mom she did a fine job raising you, as you’re able to put up with all of our shenanigans with only occasional outbursts of temper.

And give my sympathies to whomever has to dust around those tchotchkes. Christ on toast, there are a LOT of those things!

Stuffed on turkey, cranberry, dressing, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, peas, gravy, wine, smoked salmon and cheesecake,

    Krista
