They’re right on (as much as conservative Republicans can be, anyways).
However, as one of those pesky liberal Democrats, I have to wonder why they didn’t reject DeLayism before it became expedient to do so.

Since I’m so caustic and nasty, I guess I’ll have to oppose Shadegg just because Red State likes him.

‘just because’ isn’t very strong. You could argue instead that Blunt and Boehner (great pair of names, by the way) keep the stigma alive through the ’06 midterms so we should root for them for that reason.
For me, an easily-defeated party of unrepentant crooks or a clean Republican party that doesn’t make me want to move to Canada are both desirable outcomes. So from my perspective it’s win-win.

Sounds like a good choice, frankly. And he only got a few thousand from Abramoff. Maybe they’ll get some power-of-the-blogosphere thing going to back him. A Kos endorsement would surely help. *smirk*

Because they’re like totally on to us now…
I used to enjoy RedState. But it’s obvious now why Tacitus had to bail on those nitwits.
Wanted to post a comment on their “sudden revelation” that perhaps all is not well in the House leadership.
But dissent is apparantly no longer allowed at RedState and they had cancelled my account.
Oh well, enjoy the circle jerk guys.

If DeLay were still majority leader, would they have made such a call?
Hell no. They’re too dependent upon the Republican Beltway Establishment.
We’ve heard of access journalism. Red State is access blogging. If they’re willing to turn on a Republican, it’s not a sign of principle on their part–it’s a sign of weakness for that Republican.

After reading that RedState story I am not impressed. The RS Directors seem to be more concerned with the politics of the nomination than with the ethics of it. This is a snippet from the story:
I guess Boehner or Blunt would be OK if the Dems weren’t banging the ethics war drum.
It seems to me the only sin a Repub can commit in the eyes of the RedStaters is getting caught.

Ever the blogosphere was such.

Haven’t seen their editorial calling for Bob Ney to resign as Chair of the House Administration Committee.

These are my picks:
Christopher Shays (R-CT)
Jim Ramstad (R-MN)
Jim Leach (R-IA)
Ramstad is my rep… I picked them because I think it’s the only 3 Republicans in the House who aren’t moonbats.

Shadegg is my rep. He was one of those people born into his congressional seat with the work his dad did for Goldwater back in the day (if you can track down his dad’s obscure, old book on how Republicans could get into the majority, it was amazingly prophetic).
I don’t think he has demonstrated much cajones to be suitable for the position. From what I’ve seen and remember, he has had way too much ties to DeLay Inc. If that stuff blows up any bigger, he’s likely to be a name involved with that mess and it would be yet another smear on the GOPs name in Congress.
I concur with Other Steve – there are better, cleaner people in Congress than Shadegg.

Yep, just heard Obama say, “Death to ethics!”
It’s RedState, of course they can’t say “the Democrats intend to run against Republican corruption” or “no doubt the Democrats will take advantage of the Republican ethics scandals”.
And what are they going to do if Blunt is chosen? Consider voting Independent next time?

Oh, great. Would you rather step in mule sh*t or horse sh*it? Thanks for the “choices”, but the same steaming pile will be in place regardless. The system corrupts the players when they become leaders, no matter who (or what party) they are.
Ancient Purple
Shaddeg is my congressman and I oppose him as majority leader for one very good reason.
Last year, he refused to tell his consitutents which way he voted on the “DeLay rule” which would have allowed DeLay to remain as ML even if indicted. I personally called his offices in Phoenix and Washington and was told that his vote was “private” (Phoenix) and “none of my business” (Washington).
I am not apt to support any of my elected representatives that tell me that a vote such as this is none of my business.
db
Same experience here, Ancient Purple. It was a complete slap in the face of all his constituents when his offices were telling people that. I only contacted the PHX office and gave up on the guy after that.
Pooh
None of your business? That is fucking scandalous. (Though perhaps not truly scandalous…)

Yeah, the Democrats “war on ethics” got me too. Irony! Jeez, how do those people live with themselves?

Red State’s endorsement here is entirely unsurprising–they’ve always been big fans of the Republican Study Committee and its agenda.
Incidentally, here’s the six degrees of Osama bin Laden for John Shadegg:
John Shadegg -> Republican Study Committee -> Paul Weyrich -> Heritage Foundation -> Reagan Doctrine -> Mujahideen -> Osama bin Laden

Red State is, as usual, completely disconnected from reality. No way anyone who isn’t part of the machine gets the job.

I’m surprised Blunt is getting so much support. He’s connected to DeLay in a handful of ways that would certainly allow the Dems to paint the Republicans as DeLay’s puppets.
If I were with the GOP congress right now, I’d be pushing for someone with as little to do with DeLay or Abramoff or with the Abramoff money as possible, even if it were for appearances sake. Aren’t there any Republicans from, oh, Vermont or something? Whatever is farthest from Texas (or Alaska).
