Big Game Today- WVU v. UCLA

The Mountaineers (#12 AP, #17 ESPN) travel to UCLA (#18 AP, #16 ESPN) to take on the Bruins today at 3:45 on CBS.

I am sorry, John, but your Bruins are going down. A DVD of your choosing says the Mounties win.

*** Update ***

A close finish, with WVU holding on to win 60-56.

Phew.

And ESPN’s site re-design sucks.

    Go Bruins!

Georgetown (amazingly) just took out Duke. A Bruin win is the only way this day could get any better!

Does UCLA have some principled stand against recruiting guys who can shoot from outside?

You can tell which team is starting juniors and seniors, and which team is UCLA.

    Congrats John,

Your boys are thumping Farmar Afflalo and three guys from the IM championship team.

Wow, stepped out for a bit.

    Watching the halftime highlights.

    WVU steamrolling.

    Impressive.

I’m a Hoosier, through and through, though I do tend to root for UCLA. I think it’s good for college hoops when they’re good. That being said, UCLA was/is overrated this year. They’re a tourney team no doubt, but I’m not so sure about being top 20. WV, on the other hand, is a top 20 team.

    Gansey. That kid is amazing.

Valiant comeback effort, from 20 down. Great game.

Does UCLA have some principled stand against recruiting guys who can shoot from outside?

Mike Roll was 5-6 from three the other night, and Aaron Afflalo averages almost 20 per game. They had off nights. If they play slightly below average, UCLA wins.

Also, great effort by WVU, but UCLA’s window is next year. If these two teams play at full strength (i.e., UCLA with a healthy Josh Shipp, Ced Bozeman, and Lorenzo Mata) it’s not close.

And Reggie Miller went to UCLA. He was an okay outside shooter. And I’m with you John. The ESPN redesign sucks hard.

    John,

Did you see the Pat Ford article over at ESPN? His Top 25 picks for 2006 college football season?

    Who’s #1 you ask?

Well…..that would be your West Virginia Mountaineers!!!!!!!!!!

And now begins John’s anuerism and panic attacks over the Steelers coming here to D-town. The ‘Eers distracted him long enough, now it’s time for the big game.

My picks to win today? Broncos by 4 and Panthers by 6.

How accurate are they? Well, if I was all that good, I’d be making money in Vegas instead of toiling away at an hourly rate. So take it as you will.

That point guard from UCLA is a hell of a player.

If he (Farmar) and Aaron Afflalo stick around for at least one more year, UCLA will have the best backcourt in the country next year, and should start the season in the top five. They’ll be as good next year as Illinois was last year. They might not win their first 29 like Illinois did (that team was very special), but they’ll go ten deep, and they’ll be very talented.

No Steelers post yet from John? He must still be in the trainer’s room, getting his ankles taped.
