Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Bark louder, little dog.

You can’t love your country only when you win.

Infrastructure week. at last.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

In my day, never was longer.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

He really is that stupid.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

“I never thought they’d lock HIM up,” sobbed a distraught member of the Lock Her Up Party.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

A lot of Dems talk about what the media tells them to talk about. Not helpful.

Who Will Be The First?

Who will be the first left wing nut to publicly support this lawsuit:

Defence lawyers for Saddam Hussein Wednesday distributed copies of a lawsuit against President Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair for destroying Iraq.

The suit accuses Bush and Blair of committing war crimes by using weapons of mass destruction and internationally-banned weapons including enriched uranium and phosphoric and cluster bombs against unarmed Iraqi civilians, notably in Baghdad, Fallujah, Ramadi, al-Kaem and Anbar.

The Amman-based legal team had said Sunday that the ousted president intended to start legal action against the two leaders of the Iraq war in the International Criminal Court in the Hague, but the text of the suit was made available Wednesday.

My gut instinct says that Mother Sheehan will be spouting support for this lawsuit in no time, but that is just too easy. So my guess is Cynthia McKinney, who has been relatively quiet lately.

The Saddam trial is even more circus-like than the OJ trial. I’m waiting for one of his lawyers to start chanting “If it wasn’t genocide / Just let him slide.”

But…none of the bombs actually landed ON him! Does that mean that he doesn’t have standing?

    Just wondering? ;)

I don’t think anyone on the left would support this. Just like I don’t think anyone on the right would have supported Monica if she claimed rape right after the blue dress was revealed.

    Well, maybe…. ;)

He better not be heading to the airport. He’d drive about 50 yards before getting rocketed by insurgents.

Who will be the first, on the other hand, to use this as an excuse to attack the judiciary branch as terrorist-coddlers?

I haven’t the heart to look.

Actually, neil, it would be the ICC that would be attacked as terrorist-coddlers. The ICC, a function of the UN.

Our judicial branch is not involved.

And anyone who can’t freely say that the UN coddles terrorists is just crazy.

McKinney is only quiet because, after being dumped on her butt in 2002, she’s learned. She’s become the Stealth Representative. Becuase what’s important is keeping the job … not actually doing anything.

    Re the Lawyers comment above

When the Terror got going after the French Revolution, one of the first acts was to guillotine those revolutionaries who had volunteered to act as defense counsel for the aristocrats.

One of the most despicable acts in history. It was the direct and avowed inspiration of Lenin as he designed his terror: he thought the mistake of the French was to have allowed the concept of law to remain – it needed to be destroyed, not broken or twisted. Truly arbitrary action was necessary to incite fear. I suppose it worked.

You’re joking right? I’m pretty sure they tried to nail Bill AND Hillary on rape charges at one point or another. Wasn’t there a book out that implied the Presidental couple raped each other every so often?

Clearly you were asleep during the 90s, when the Republican Party bent head over heels to implicate Clinton in something, anything, that would remove him from office. Why do you think Republicans had to start rigging elections in Florida and Ohio or gerrymandering districts in states they already controlled? They can’t get votes otherwise.

Whoah whoah whoah, Zifnab!!! I thought it was pretty clear that I was making a snark with my stained dress analogy when I followed it up with “Well, maybe….” and a big yellow winking face!

I was trying to make the point that both sides of the political spectrum have their fringes that support wacky or unproven allegations. Hell, there are still people who think Hillary Clinton had Vince Foster suicided! So…those in glass houses…. Know what I mean?

Sorry I didn’t make that point clearer. :(

Boy, you ARE crabby today John!

I’m depressed… too much name calling from my favorite blogger! I say life is too short–Have the damn glass of wine every night and eat what you want in moderation. Extra pounds are a sign of a well lived life, and wine is the nectar of the Gods. It’s depressing enough seeing what’s going on every day-give yourself some enjoyment.

Its not that the lawsuit itself is without merit, its just that I don’t think Saddam and his legal team really should be the one to file it…

Re: “Sadam and every one of his lawyers should hang from a tree and as we remmeber what was written by WILLIAM SHAKSPEAR these imortal lines AND LET US THE FIRST THINGS WE DO LET US KILL ALL THE LAWYERS.”

Jeebus, Birdzilla, can you not even cut and paste correctly? First, the defendant’s name is “Saddam”, not “Sadam”. Second, the author’s name is “Shakespeare”, not “Shakespear”. Third, what you quote is “an immortal line”, not “imortal lines”. And lastly, the line is, “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.”, not that disjointed crap you put up.

Try taking at least one thumb out of your ass as you type. And have some proper respect for the Bard.
