Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

I was promised a recession.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

I am off to buy some new pants and knickers (I gave all my clothes from the slimmer me to charity, and now my damned pants don’t fit- one unfortunate side effect of dieting), so I will be out of the loop.

Lexis-Nexis is doing something really cool- they are providing free services for Olympic coverage, which you can check out here. Also, don’t forget to check out Gold Rush, the PJ Media blog dedicated to the Olympics. Gold Rush is actually the kind of thing I think PJ Media is set up to do pretty well. Also good is NBC’s coverage. Of course, don’t click on any of those links if you are worried about spoilers.

You all have a good day.

I was sitting in a bar at Oakland Airport last night waiting for the late night back to LA, and I had the extremely dubious pleasure of watching the strange opening ceremonies to this year’s Olympics.

Turned to the guy next to me and asked, “Didn’t they just do this stupid shit a couple of weeks back?”

“Sure seems like it,” he replied. “Really fucking sucks, doesn’t it?”

Where were the Anarchists when we needed them?

    Aren’t knickers pants?

Yea, it’s the lame way to say “pants”.

You know I was amazed at the mostly American (some British) disco music that was used as a background for the parade of nations in the Olympics yesterday. Isn’t there any other music made by other countries in the world that can be used there? Do other countries not make pop music? I think they do – Latin America I know, for one, has a big music scene, also some Swede pop would have been good. I think a mix of music from different countries would have been nicer.

As far as problems go, being too skinny for your pants is a good one to have. Well, unless you’re Rock Hudson.

I don’t understand. Is John wearing 18th-century clothing now, or has he gone British and taken to wearing women’s underwear? Does “knickers” mean something different in West Virginian?

Ice skating pairs, tonight!!! Usually, the Russians have the most graceful performances, all that ballet training kicking in.

If I mention ice skating again, my husband’s shakes will become too violent for him to survive. Wuss.

I am watching today’s ice skating special, it is a tad better today, but Sale and Pelltier need to remove themselves from my TV. Aboot your commentating? Cheesy.

Here, now. After Sale and Pelletier got royally screwed over like that, they can be wherever they want, IMO.

And we do not all say “aboot”, goddammit.

And John, it’s much better to have to buy new clothes because the old ones are too big, than to have to buy new clothes, because the old ones are too small. It’s money well spent, and will keep you on track when you see how great you look in your new duds.

Krista – actually their live commentating was very good, but Sales does say aboot. They were robbed in the last olympics, thanks France and Russia!, but there are new scoring rules now that should be more fair. We shall see. The Russians are favored to win, but the Chinese are hot on their trail. I like the elements that the Chinese pair does, it is amazing the ease with which their jumping and throwing appears.

Check out the Texan speed skater tonight, who is called the Exception. Chad Hedrick.

Will do! Yeah, Sale does say that, I guess. Regional dialects abound. That’s why I get such a kick out of people talking about a “Canadian accent” or an “American accent.” Someone from Mount Pearl, Newfoundland has a very different accent than someone from Iqaluit. And someone from Austin would have a very different accent than someone from Bangor.

Hopefully the rules are more fair. I always am skeptical of any judged events, though. I enjoy watching them, but try not to get too caught up in who will win, because it’s subjective, when you really get down to it.

Nothing will match Salt Lake City and the men’s and women’s hockey gold, though. It did more for national unity than any politician ever will.

Sorry, I saw the opening ceremonies as a VERY LONG, VERY irritating, and VERY widely broadcast “gay pride parade.”

I didn’t see any symbolism, I just saw a bunch of fools doing stupid things, in the hopes of “shocking” people, when all they did was bore us. The “representative flame” choreography was a joke, did you note they were wearing a manipulation of a decon suit? and the balloon heads? WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!?!?!?!?

How about you engage in NON-Interpretive dance, I can guarantee you, most of the world, not just America, would be STARTLED at the simple elegance of ballet. Dress them as you please.

As ACE said, “leave it to an artist to screw up a simple job” I think it was ACE.

Repubblica.it has excellent coverage, except for not showing the intermediate scores. As I told the General, I am visiting lequipe.fr for those and had to go to cbc.ca for the curling scores today. Not that I understood anything really important in the article, which is very depressing because I thought I understood this sport four years ago. Interestingly, cbc.ca identifies the curling teams by their skips and their nation.

I hope that someone connected to the Anchoress reads two things.
    a) The two Russian national anthems that I saw are complimentary to the USA. The Russians were trying desperately to be stolid as their anthem was played. The Americans did not care if they cried or not, and clearly had great emotion.
    b) As American sports accept more and more foreign athletes, American viewers will want to see these athletes accept their medals. A sterling example is Manu Ginobili two years ago. I looked up the translation of the Argentine national anthem because the basketball team was having such a good time hearing it played. Not that I ever heard of these two Russian figure skaters until last week.
I am basically too lazy to register with WordPress just to comment on her blog.

Hey, I was bound and determined to see that soccer final, so we kept the TV on all night and all day at my mother-in-law’s house. My husband was happy :)
