Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“And when the Committee says to “report your income,” that could mean anything!

In short, I come down firmly on all sides of the issue.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

I’m sure you banged some questionable people yourself.

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

People are complicated. Love is not.

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

Consistently wrong since 2002

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

T R E 4 5 O N

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

It has been a while, so please bear with me:

Peace activist Cindy Sheehan has canceled a trip to Paris and other European cities because of injuries she allegedly sustained a week ago while being arrested in New York, organizers said Monday.

“We had to cancel Cindy’s trip because her doctor said she was not fit to travel,” said Elsa Rassbach, of American Voices Abroad, one of the groups that organized the trip. She cited an arm injury and possible concussion.

Sheehan, who gained international attention when she camped outside President Bush’s Texas ranch to protest the war in Iraq, was to visit Paris on Monday, then travel to Strasbourg, France, to meet members of the European Parliament, and go on to two German cities.

A pacifist group in the United States, Women Say No to War, had claimed that Sheehan was physically assaulted by security officers during the March 6 arrests following a march to the U.S. mission of the United Nations.

I was jonesing to see what the Grieving Mother® was up to. Consider this an open flame war thread, something I have missed.

Interesting. I guess the police abuse lawsuit should be filed soon. No, you say ? Or is it just the perception of injuries, blamed for missing a trip to Europe, that is the goal ? Because obviously, in the court of lefty opinion, the police are already tried and convicted, and that’s all that really matters, isn’t it ?

Actual charges, an actual lawsuit, well that would actually bring the inconvenient truth to light, wouldn’t it ? Can’t have that.

Adele Ferguson? Who the hell is she? I’m a conservative, and I’ve never heard of her, but now that you’ve raised her quote, I denounce her words. They are shameful and unworthy of serious attention.

But, is Adele Ferguson covered with the same sympathy, the same pity, the same seriousness, as Cindy Sheehan? Of course not, so the comparison is ridiculous.

Cindy’s treated as a joke in this thread the way she’s always been treated by me. You’ve all finally come around to giving her the attention she deserves as the joke that she is.

Cindy Sheehan? You can sum her up in a couple of sentences. She’s a well-meaning and greiving mother who undermines her own case by using rhetoric that is more likely to divide Americans than to rally them to her cause. She is a poor spokeperson for her own movement who, let’s be honest, is in serious need of a makeover.

Having said that, aside from getting some publicity, she has no formal position of authority. Nobody is relying on her to make critical decisions about foreign policy. I can forgive her faults because they do not cost me anything.

Contrast Sheehan with the entire Bush administration. A band of stumbling buffoons who I would gladly forget, but sadly can’t. Where Sheehan’s misguided ideas, or even ignorance, cost the country nothing, the Bush administration is making the entire world pay through the nose for their malicious incompetence. And where Sheehan lacks expertise, numerous prominent Democrats do not. Again, contrast that with the Bush administration, where the entire governing apparatus is controlled by boobs and fuckups.

C’mon man. Didn’t you ever see a werewolf or vampire movie? I thought it was common knowledge that there are different weapons for different types of evil. (i.e. You can’t kill a vampire with a silver bullet, but you can kill a werewolf with a silver bullet. )

Just because the Dems don’t have the right weapon to vanquish the Bushian/Rovian Evil does not mean they lack the correct weapon to fight other forms of evil.

I’m surprised that you’d bring that up. Some time back I asked a number of rightwingers whether it’s possible to be stupendously good at winning elections and stupendously bad at actually governing, and of everybody you alone acknowledged that as a possibility. Everybody else refused to answer and goes on insisting that winning elections makes Republicans automatically better in every imaginable way.

Woo. A nice write-up and smackdown from Mystery Pollster, regarding polling and “partisans who seek to discredit the results”.

the notion that reporting results of adults is some sort of plot to “distort the political landscape to the left’s advantage” or that “what ‘Americans’ or ‘adults nationwide’ think, doesn’t matter one iota in politics, or the polling world” is ludicrous

FDR did a middling job. He was pretty good on foreign policy, but domestically he introduced socialism into America. We’re still trying to undo the damage FDR did to our economy. Harry Truman was pretty great, though. He was the last Democrat I would’ve considered voting for, had I been alive and of voting age at the time.
