It has been a while, so please bear with me:
Peace activist Cindy Sheehan has canceled a trip to Paris and other European cities because of injuries she allegedly sustained a week ago while being arrested in New York, organizers said Monday.
“We had to cancel Cindy’s trip because her doctor said she was not fit to travel,” said Elsa Rassbach, of American Voices Abroad, one of the groups that organized the trip. She cited an arm injury and possible concussion.
Sheehan, who gained international attention when she camped outside President Bush’s Texas ranch to protest the war in Iraq, was to visit Paris on Monday, then travel to Strasbourg, France, to meet members of the European Parliament, and go on to two German cities.
A pacifist group in the United States, Women Say No to War, had claimed that Sheehan was physically assaulted by security officers during the March 6 arrests following a march to the U.S. mission of the United Nations.
I was jonesing to see what the Grieving Mother® was up to. Consider this an open flame war thread, something I have missed.
jg
You’d been off the grid so long I actually started to miss the daily Sheehan bash.
Balloon Juice is back on track.
tb
Yawn. I guess.
KC
Sheehan . . . haven’t heard that name in a long time.
M.A.
Git along home, Cindy, Cindy,
Git along home, Cindy, Cindy,
Git along home, Cindy, Cindy,
I’ll marry you sometime.
Krista
Yeah, you missed some pretty ugly flame wars. Oh well, it’s not like there won’t ever be others.

Hey John, what do you think of Kristin Briteweiser and the 9/11 wives?
Pooh
Hey John, how come your Panthers have to poke people in the eye to win games?
scarshapedstar
Yee haw, kick that lyin’ bitch’s ass, and then gibbet the corpse of her worthless son!
Compassion.

Yawn… I urge people to read instead:

Update your bookmarks as needed. This train has left the station. That includes you too John.

Pooh, those would be my Panthers. John’s Mountaineers win by a mix of luck and sympathetic refs.
Pb
The problem with Glenn Greenwald… if it’s interesting and topical, chances are he’s already covered it in some way or another a month or three ago. Heck, he moved on to Mother Decter 5 months ago…
Pooh
My bad Tim. How come your team needs to poke people in the eye to when games? I demand accountability (plus, my original final 4 picks included Nova, and now I’m waffling…If Carl Krauser costs me my first pool win in about 10 years, displeasure shall rain down upon thee…)
ppGaz
Ooookay …. next, we’ll have the recorded noises made by John’s hand under his armpit, and then after the break, John will moon the audience from the back seat of a ’57 Chevy convertible, being driven by Mountaineer cheerleaders.
Times are tough in Blogville, USA, I guess.
Sherard
Interesting. I guess the police abuse lawsuit should be filed soon. No, you say ? Or is it just the perception of injuries, blamed for missing a trip to Europe, that is the goal ? Because obviously, in the court of lefty opinion, the police are already tried and convicted, and that’s all that really matters, isn’t it ?
Actual charges, an actual lawsuit, well that would actually bring the inconvenient truth to light, wouldn’t it ? Can’t have that.
Dave Ruddell
Okay, for all of you out there who remember you SAT or GRE…
Heroin:Methadone as Cindy Sheehan: __________
We need to fill in that blank people. John needs help to kick this habit, and I don’t think he can go cold turkey. So, we’re going to have to step him down.
Krista
Susan Sarandon?

Dave Ruddell,

And he was doing so well.

Let me pull down my bound collection of essays by Ward Churchill…

I had a buddy who was arrested during the RNC protests; he saw a few things that were unpleasant, to say the least.
capelza
Bound with vegan microfiber I’m sure….
Dave Ruddell
I like Susan Sarandon, but maybe we should step him down a bit more gently. How about Michael Moore?
And it has been a while since we’ve had a pic of Tunch, hasn’t it?
zzyzx
How about the horror of high school teachers that give the wrong lecture.

You can get off on either the high priced item or the subsidized item, but either way you are not going to feel good about yourself in the morning.

Which is most ofgfensive (and destructive) to the American values: Cindy Shehan stating a fact: “Bush lied”
OR
the writings of Adele Fergusen, a well respected Republican Columnist and Activist who wrote on March 13, 2006 in her column (www.kpbj.com)the following:
“…The pony hidden in slavery is the fact that it was the ticket to America for black people. I have long urged blacks to consider their presence here as the work of God, who wanted to bring them to this raw, new country and used slavery to achieve it….”
When will the Republicans in the US show some backbone and denounce EVERYDAY the kind of stupidity of the right evidenced above???
Could the answer be “Never!” because Mrs. Fergusen scribbles in her column what the “family values” of the Republican base of the right actually entail………

Still no gravestone, she loves the troops, but still no gravestone for her son.
capelza
Wicked pinto…there are NO gravestones for my family, the three who have passed away in the last couple years. We love them, miss them, and think about them often..but we don’t do gravestones. Got anything more than that?
Adele Fergusen….now there’s the woman for Pat Robertson. I especially love the title of the article that quote is from…”Why do blacks continue to support Democrats?”.
pssst…Adele, maybe they read this article.
Jim Allen
On a “Pajamas Media” website? Never going to happen.
BIRDZILLA
Why dont she just go home and stop running around the world dancing on her sons grave
capelza
Ain’t it kinda hard to both dance on her son’s grave (especially one without a gravestone) while at the same time running around the world?
Brian
Adele Ferguson? Who the hell is she? I’m a conservative, and I’ve never heard of her, but now that you’ve raised her quote, I denounce her words. They are shameful and unworthy of serious attention.
But, is Adele Ferguson covered with the same sympathy, the same pity, the same seriousness, as Cindy Sheehan? Of course not, so the comparison is ridiculous.
Cindy’s treated as a joke in this thread the way she’s always been treated by me. You’ve all finally come around to giving her the attention she deserves as the joke that she is.
space
Cindy Sheehan? You can sum her up in a couple of sentences. She’s a well-meaning and greiving mother who undermines her own case by using rhetoric that is more likely to divide Americans than to rally them to her cause. She is a poor spokeperson for her own movement who, let’s be honest, is in serious need of a makeover.
Having said that, aside from getting some publicity, she has no formal position of authority. Nobody is relying on her to make critical decisions about foreign policy. I can forgive her faults because they do not cost me anything.
Contrast Sheehan with the entire Bush administration. A band of stumbling buffoons who I would gladly forget, but sadly can’t. Where Sheehan’s misguided ideas, or even ignorance, cost the country nothing, the Bush administration is making the entire world pay through the nose for their malicious incompetence. And where Sheehan lacks expertise, numerous prominent Democrats do not. Again, contrast that with the Bush administration, where the entire governing apparatus is controlled by boobs and fuckups.

It makes one wish that John had been around to cover Ghandi’s salt march.

It’s hard work, people! Glad to have Balloon Juice back.

By the way, I remember when the MSM was calling her a grieving mother and John was calling her a peace activist. How did they end up switching?
BumperStickerist
.
That speaks poorly of the Democrats.
If they can’t beat Bushian/Rovian Evil, what chance have they against actual, you know, Evil?
Blue Neponset
C’mon man. Didn’t you ever see a werewolf or vampire movie? I thought it was common knowledge that there are different weapons for different types of evil. (i.e. You can’t kill a vampire with a silver bullet, but you can kill a werewolf with a silver bullet. )
Just because the Dems don’t have the right weapon to vanquish the Bushian/Rovian Evil does not mean they lack the correct weapon to fight other forms of evil.
Bob In Pacifica
Hope there’s a post about the Feingold censure. It could be addressed from a half dozen angles: Is the statement of fact in it true: Is it a political ploy? Are the Demos cowards for not demanding a vote? Are the Repugs worried about it?
don surber
I feel sorry for Cindy Sheehan. We all grieve in our own way. I trust Bush will gut it out and make Casey Sheehan’s sacrifice meaningful
Tim F.
I’m surprised that you’d bring that up. Some time back I asked a number of rightwingers whether it’s possible to be stupendously good at winning elections and stupendously bad at actually governing, and of everybody you alone acknowledged that as a possibility. Everybody else refused to answer and goes on insisting that winning elections makes Republicans automatically better in every imaginable way.
I hope that answers your question.
Leonidas
Good to see the Cindy Shiitehan update here. When you’re not being a RINO, you’re a pretty good blogger, John Cole.
VidaLoca
Don,
How in any actual, practical, imaginable way is it still possible for anybody to make the death of anyone who has died over there in the last 3 years (hell, the last 30 years) “meaningful”?
Leonidas
This is a good question:
If the party rolls up in a ball and cries because of the big bad Swift Boat Veterans, how on earth could handle Islamofascism? Democrats have become weak sissified, calcified versions of the some of the great leaders they had in the past, people like Harry Truman, and, yes, FDR, who showed a ton of guts in facing down Hitler. Does anyone think the Democrats of today have those kind of guts? I sure as hell don’t.
Once-ler
Thank you Don, that’s decent of you. I mean it, no snark. That’s all that really needs to be said about her. So can we stop now?
Michael Moore is fat.
Next?
Pb
Woo. A nice write-up and smackdown from Mystery Pollster, regarding polling and “partisans who seek to discredit the results”.
GOP4Me
FDR did a middling job. He was pretty good on foreign policy, but domestically he introduced socialism into America. We’re still trying to undo the damage FDR did to our economy. Harry Truman was pretty great, though. He was the last Democrat I would’ve considered voting for, had I been alive and of voting age at the time.
Otherwise, I agree with you, Leonidas.
Richard Bottoms
We’re blowing up infants and you’re obsessed with someone whose only crime is wanting to stop this war.
Of course if you hadn’t voted for the clowns in charge, twice, we might not be in the mess we are today.

I know Cindy is more important, but here’s a picture of one of the children we killed today:

DougJ, your obviously photoshopped images of happy children will not convince me that you are anyone but DougJ, I can tell, you know. (/channel scs)

We should give Cindy all the support we can in these trying times.

Otherwise, I agree with you, Leonidas.
You guys are just too easy over at scrutator.

What the-
YOU! I hate you, DougJ! I F-CKING HATE YOU!!!
BTW, this is the beginning of a lawsuit. This is a very serious matter. I’m going to talk it over with the REAL Leonidas, and we’ll weigh in with an attorney. I’ve had it with you and this libelous spoofing. I can’t even post a serious argument around here anymore without half the local moonbats calling me you. I can’t stand it anymore.
See you in court, you bastard.
demimondian
Hey, BalloonJuiceFolk — do we need to start a DougJ Defense Fund Tip Jar?
capelza
Look out Doug J, Fox Security might pay you a visit. Though can it be libel if it is a spoof?
demimondian
It can’t be libel if it’s true. As to whether a parody can be libellous…geez, that’s a tough question. Attorneys? Anybody?
p.lukasiak
This is great. Doug is threatening to sue himself!
and GOP4Me has GOTTA be DougJ…. I mean, only a spoofer would describe what GOP4Me writes as a “serious argument”
