Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

In my day, never was longer.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

I like political parties that aren’t owned by foreign adversaries.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

Donald Trump found guilty as fuck – May 30, 2024!

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

This fight is for everything.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

Republicans in disarray!

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Unspectering?

Head over to ObWings and do what Katherine says. I don’t know whether Specter is trying to weasel out of his shiny new verb but regardless this seems like a positive development.

Back when the awful Specter bill first came out I called his office in Pittsburgh and asked him to stop being such a tool. Mostly I did it because as a constituent it seemed like Specter has a right to know when he pisses me off, not because it would make any difference.

Looks like he listened to me, at least a little bit. Guess I should call more often.

***Update***

As long as I am exercising my authoritah, go do what Josh says also. Even if they black-marker every word other than if, and and but I want to see that NIE for myself.

Man. Sometimes I wish we had audio commentary. My impression of Cartman’s “I am a cop, and you will respect mah authoritah!” is not to be missed.

    Oh well.

Great of you to push this, Tim F. Everyone should be for releasing the NIE.

The pressures that the conflict in Iraq is putting on the Army are apparent amid the towering pine trees of southeast Georgia, where the Third Infantry Division is preparing for the likelihood that it will go back to Iraq for a third tour.

Col. Tom James, who commands the division’s Second Brigade, acknowledged that his unit’s equipment levels had fallen so low that it now had no tanks or other armored vehicles to use in training and that his soldiers were rated as largely untrained in attack and defense.

For this alone the Republicans should be driven from power.

Spend the next six weeks on issues like this rather than Guantanamo and we might just have the goods this time. Make them explain where the money went and why we aren’t ready for this war, or the one over the horizon.

Normally, armored units preparing for Iraq are sent to Fort Irwin, Calif., for such training, but transporting a brigade’s worth of equipment and soldiers there takes a month, which the schedule would not permit.

So the trainers and Arabic-speaking role players, who will simulate conditions the unit is likely to encounter in Iraq, were brought here to conduct the three-week exercise in a Georgia pine forest, rather than in the California desert.

    My God, what a disgrace.

Oh, yes, please release the NIE.

I remember when they released the August Memo, too, and it said nothing like what the leak-based news articles had implied.

    Egad.

It sounds like Mel Gibson is right. Human sacrifice is probably not the best way to describe this — might as well just call this murder.
