Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

The words do not have to be perfect.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

Bark louder, little dog.

It’s a doggy dog world.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

It’s a new day. Light all those Biden polls of young people on fire and throw away the ashes.

I didn’t have alien invasion on my 2023 BINGO card.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

“And when the Committee says to “report your income,” that could mean anything!

White supremacy is terrorism.

The willow is too close to the house.

Republicans don’t trust women.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Let’s finish the job.

People are complicated. Love is not.

Putin dreamed of ending NATO, and now it’s Finnish-ed.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Yes comparing the games from last year and this year (stl v SD) thier is huge difference in the Steeler team. There is a lack of offense fire. Lot of this must come from losing the Bus and from the QB experiencing his own mortality. Stl TOP=1Q-12 min, 2Q-8 min, 3Q-6 min, 4Q-4 min IOWs, the lack of offense stole the stealer defensive edge. Last year you killed him. It was a clase game but we could feel the Stl lurking until the 4th, then putting your foot on our neck. Repeating is the hardest thing in sports. But its a long season.

    Try being a Cardinals fan.

We only have two shortcomings here: Blocking, and tackling.

We have a zillion dollar quarterback who is a very classy kid and a will be a great NFL player … playing for a team that can’t do the fundamentals. Very sad.

I’ve got to say, that is a new angle. And Keith must be *really* popular amongst wingnuts–after all, I haven’t seen any of them speculating about whether or not Mark Foley is bad in bed!

The question is whether this is just a bump in the road or is Big Ben is being exposed as not being that good without a running game.

I think he’s a good quarterback – I mean, if you could go 15-1 as a rookie just based on your running game, everyone would be doing it – but he has had a fairly easy road, that much is true. I wonder how many games he’s won where he didn’t even have 15 pass attempts.

As a Chargers fan ever since the Dan Fouts days, I love to see how well Rivers is playing, though. I’m going to give it a little while longer before I lord it over the Giants fans in the office.

Worthlessberger is a mess right now. I think Pitty WAY underestimated the loss of Buress and Randel-El. Losing both WRs while your QB is staring at first his brain matter, then his appendix, in respective formaldehyde jars isn’t a great way to help him out. They must go back to Chaz Batch if they want to win; case closed.

As for my BEARS….HOT DAMN! They’re not just winning…they’re CRUSHING opponents. 36 total points allowed…in FIVE games. Fucking incredible. Best team in the NFL, bar none.

Roethlisberger just keeps trying to do too much, and while he got away with some during his first two years, he’s getting caught this year. Most of his interceptions have just been horrible passes, passes that shouldn’t have been thrown.

He played well in the first half last night, so that gives one hope. He just can’t keep making those terrible decisions. They’ve lost against three very good football teams, which unfortunately might have already killed their playoff chances because of the tiebreaks. Still, the last time the Steelers had a 3-game losing streak they ended up running the table and winning the Super Bowl. From that, I’ve learned not to count this team out.

It does not make my day to see supposed political discourse reduced to the Page 6 gossip section of the NY Post.

The Post is out to get Olbermann in an incredibly hackish way. Did you see where they ridiculed him a couple weeks ago for supposedly “overreacting” to a fake anthrax mailing and going to the hospital to get checked out? Even Hugh Hewitt took Olbermann’s side on that one.

But whatever. I think Olbermann is one of the good guys, but I don’t hyperventilate every time his ratings go up like some of my friends over at Daily Kos. Nor is my own manhood contingent on whether he is good in bed.

seriously. The metaphors for how my team does regularly are too innapropriate even for b-j.

Now that I no longer live in Detroit, I don’t often have the pleasure of watching the Lions any more, like yesterday’s tour de force when they blew a 17-3 fourth quarter lead by surrendering 23 unanswered points. It’s as if they were going out for the fourth quarter and someone reminded them that they’ll never get the #1 draft pick if they win games like this one.

I’d imagine Matt Millen must be the biggest Tigers fan in town. The longer their season goes, the longer it will be before attention focuses on him again.

He seems just so more immobile than he was last year. Maybe it’s just my perception, but the swagger and confidence is shot. So many sacks when he could be steppin up for a 5-6 yard scramble.

As for the Lions….ooffff. UGLY game. Almost like D-twah just wanted to lose that…

You’re just being overly negative. As a Chargers fan, I prefer to think the Steelers are good and they just got beat by the best team in the NFL. I know San Diego is going to switch gears into Martyball at a critical moment in the playoffs and get their asses kicked, but until then I can bask in the realization that they really are extremely good.

The Bucs do suck this year. Interestingly, we’re used to it, hell we take a perverted pride in having the Bucs go 0-26 to start the whole franchise. This season, though, it’s the cause of the collapse that has us more worried than the losing streak: Our vaunted defense has suddenly stopped working.

What does his stats or awards have to do with his whining after losing exactly?

Especially considering how they were beaten, mainly almost single handedly by the opposing quarterback?

It would have been easy. We tried hard but Vince had an incredible game and we couldn’t overcome it.

I was amazed he didn’t go until the 10th pick though.

Steelers suck? What, do you want to win the Super Bowl every year? Try being a Vikings fan. I was one until they got massacred in the NFC title game 41-0 to a decent, not great, Giants team almost six years ago. Since then I haven’t watched more than 10 minutes of a football game. And guess what, I don’t miss it! I could give a shit about the Vikings or any other football team. The Twins, on the other hand…
