Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Consistently wrong since 2002

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

“When somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re gonna use it.”

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

Dear elected officials: Trump is temporary, dishonor is forever.

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

This wave has been absolutely huge.

In Minnesota, the Democrats picked up 6 state senate seats and 19 state house seats. They were already in control of the senate, but not only did they pick up the house, they now have over 60% of the seats in both chambers.

Although the votes are close in the Governors race, it looks like our incumbent Republican might win.

Tim Walz kicked ass down in the 1st! Oh my God!

Too bad we also elected Katherine Harris’ clone. :-(

    But Klobuchar kicked some ass.

And the Democrats swept the Attorney General, Secretary of State and State Auditor races.

Now we just watch the Democrats to pick up the last 3 senate seats… Webb, Mcaskill and Tester.

Speaker Pelosi has a nice ring to it.

You know, back when she was running for minority leader, I was more in favor of Ford. But Ford has been utterly incompetent in his campaign in Tennessee, pretending to be a Republican. Pelosi on the other hand has turned out to be intelligent, fair and very moderate in her style.

The Dems aren’t too bad- it’s just the people they pick for leaders- Pilosi, Kerry, Reid, Murtha,(who wants to put a rapid reaction force for the Middle East in Korea) Gephardt, Gore, Kennedy – a bunch of, shall we say in Reid’s words, “LOOOOSERS”. I HOPE, HOPE they put better peopla up there now that a bunch of more moderate new Dems have been elected. Better to have DiFi, even Boxer, Shumer, Clinton, Biden, Obama – anyone else but the current top dogs. Otherwise I have much confidence that the people will come to their senses and put the Republicans back in power after two short years. They’re dumping all their failings, incompetence and other shit leftover from their reign of power into a hefty bag and labeling it Democrat.

I don’t know what Kos’ mantra was, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t quite the same, especially considering there was no reign of power to be gettin’ shitty with.

They (when I mention Kos I’m usually talking about the while site) were blaming the DLC and Dem establishment for pulling the party too far to the right. Becoming the GOP lite. Same thing really.

Looks like there is a recount in the MT race. On that note, I’m headin’ to bed.

I think an important distinction that’s often missed, sometimes unintentionally, sometimes intentionally, is that Kos and company don’t have a problem with moderate or even conservative democrats, their enthusiastic support for Webb, Tester, ect, as an example, what they have a problem with are democrats who they feel aren’t sufficiently partisan.

No one at Kos ever complained about lieberman (for example) being too conservative, they complained about him going on Fox News and parroting Republican talking points.

I think there’s an irony in the fact that the netroots gets painted as a bunch of moon bats who are pushing the party to the left, ect, when in reality, the netroots have expanded the party’s tent tenfold by embracing moderate and conservative candidates who are also fierce partisan democrats.

    Or something like that.

About a couple of hours ago, CNN had a “projection” that Republicans would remain in control of senate by a one point lead. Now, the “projection” has changed to the wishful thinking on the part of the Repubs: that the Dems have not yet won, although they are leading in both races. When will the Repubs concede without a recount, just as they have asked Kerry and Gore to when they ran for president? It’s amazing how some react when the shoe is on the other foot. Just another reason as to why the Dems need control of Congress.

In this political climate, do we really want to delve into the size and shape of objects going into or coming out of politician’s mouths?

Aside from that aspect…what the hell does that even mean? Frogs? Have you fallen prey to the liberal agenda of Dada?

How is it that Tammy Duckworth lost in IL-06? In an election that was considered a referendum on Iraq and Bush’s handling thereof, how is it that a Iraq War veteran who lost both legs defeated by some generic Republican?

I think it’s official – residents of IL-06 are the dumbest, most out-of-touch voters in America.

Actually, Rusty, it’s a very Republican district, and represented for many years by Henry Hyde, who led the impeachment for blowjobs against the Clenis.

Illinois has some very red areas, and 06 is one of the reddest. We’re very backward here. We think no tax is justified, ever. Fuck you if you need government services, we’re doing just fine.

Seriously, though, I’m disappointed. Tammy should try again, it was very close (51%-49%).

Close in a Democratic Wave year. I don’t think she’ll get this lucky twice. However, I bet that her campaign probably pushed a few other Dems over the line in other areas of Illinois, just because Dems were running Iraqi War Vets and ‘Pubs weren’t. She was campaigning for all of Illinois, and she did a solid job.
