Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

Republicans in disarray!

The words do not have to be perfect.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

I did not have this on my fuck 2022 bingo card.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Tick tock motherfuckers!

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

American History and Black History Cannot Be Separated

Let’s finish the job.

Come on, man.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

Republicans can’t even be trusted with their own money.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

🎶 Those boots were made for mockin’ 🎵

“I never thought they’d lock HIM up,” sobbed a distraught member of the Lock Her Up Party.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

How To Mislead Congress Without Breaking The Law

Forget.

Honestly, for some branches of government misleading Congress is a professional sport. In a certain sense everybody who testifies adds their personal spin. That’s why smart panels call multiple witnesses. This has nothing to do with any particular party, it just follows naturally from our adversarial balance of powers.

    Dude.

“Everything the advocates of war said would happen hasn’t happened,” says the president of Americans for Tax Reform, Grover Norquist, an influential conservative who backed the Iraq invasion. “And all the things the critics said would happen have happened. [The president’s neoconservative advisers] are effectively saying, ‘Invade Iran. Then everyone will see how smart we are.’ But after you’ve lost x number of times at the roulette wheel, do you double-down?”

When you’ve lost Grover Norquist, you’ve lost the hackocracy. And then I guess there’s the question of what role if any he played in the Iraq debacle.

There is another way. Just don’t understand what it is you’re being told. A method of responsibility avoidance that was perfected during the GOP’s 12 years of running Congress.

Couple that with the Junior Bush presidency and you can see that for Republicans Cognitive Dysfunction (CD) is among the very highest of virtues.

Condi has achieved something quite interesting: she is a lame duck Secretary of State.

I don’t think any country takes her seriously, at all. She doesn’t appear to have any say in policy nor any influence in the Whitehouse

She’ll make a great Vice President.

I wouldn’t be so sure about what lil dougie feith and company were doing not being illegal.

Granted I am skeptical of what Rockefeller says here. However if what he is saying is true then based on that alone the office was illegal as they never briefed congress as other “intelligence agencies” are supposed to.

Or at least how to annoy the hell out of Congress by “forgetting” for the 500th time. Can Admin. appointees be dismissed for mental incompetence?

I don’t think any country takes her seriously, at all.

Or anyone else in this administration.

Good to know we have a Secretary of State with alzheimers in addition to a lack of imagination. “No one could ever have imagined….”

She’s one Billy Beer brewery away from complete irrelevance.

I don’t think any country takes her seriously, at all.

It must be strange, being a genius like Condi Rice and revealing once masterpiece of diplomacy after another to an unresponsive crowd.

She is the Monet of the State Department. Unappreciated in her granduer.

But if you don’t think she’d make a great president, it’s because you hate black women!

I’m sure that Feith and Co committed dozens of felonies, starting with treason, going through misfeasance and malfeasance; then misleading Congress, and probably perjury (unless they’re better liars than I figure).

Add to that several dozen probable violations of the more obscure federal laws, and top it off with conspiracy to commit everything.

The trick is, as always, proving it.

Or anyone else in this administration.

Takes her seriously? Or no one takes anyone else in the administration seriously?

I think the former is true, but the latter isn’t. I think people take Dick Cheney seriously, in the way you take a drunk knife wielding psychopath in the back seat of your car seriously.

But if Condi is the one riding back there, you’re just sort of “Meh” and you’re thinking about whether to drop her at the shoe store or take her back to the State Department where she’ll order shoes online.

Takes her seriously? Or no one takes anyone else in the administration seriously?

Both. Someone take eagle-eye Cheney seriously? A guy who couldn’t tell the difference between a 6 ft.+ tall white-haired Texan and a 2 lb. quail as he shot peppered him?

The only nation leaders who may be taking him or Bush seriously are likely those in small Caribbean island countries. “Shit, last time they fucked up and wanted an easy win they busted Grenada.” Maybe they’ve all already sent in letters to the State Dept. saying they’re in their last throes hoping Cheney won’t bother or he’ll just declare victory in advance.

    speaking of breaking the law.

Who’d have thought that Steve Martin would become such a crucial influence on our political system?

To paraphrase the master: “Let’s say you’re on trial for lying to a grand jury. You say, ‘I forgot… that perjury was illegal.'”

I eagerly await the day when Dick Cheney gets indicted and responds with a defiant “Well, excuuuuuuuuuuse MEEEEE!!”

For the life of me, I cannot understand how “misleading Congress” can be anything other than a violation of 18 USC 1001. A criminal offense.
