Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

Republicans in disarray!

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Take your GOP plan out of the witness protection program.

Let’s finish the job.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

And then we will go back to ignoring her, becuase despite the fact that I think she got hosed in this Edwards deal, she is, at the end of the day, batshit crazy and stupid. Doug Feith stupid, if you ask me.

The Final Word on Amanda Marcotte

Great. For better or for worse, at least that’s over. Now… dear MSM, where is the outrage over anything important? Can we see that Frank Gaffney (and The Washington Times) will never be taken seriously again? How about William Donohue? Doug Feith? Donald Rumsfeld? Bill Kristol? Dick Cheney? Anyone? Bueller?

…or is it rah-rah casus belli falsus time again?

I essentially quit going to the Pandagon blog when one of the bloggers (wasn’t Amanda) said the Beatles are overrated, but considers Oasis brilliant.

    From http://scoop.agonist.org/

Rape and Death Threats Against Marcotte (and McEwan)
“Update 2: Let me spell this out. Melissa quit the campaign because she was scared by threats of death and rape. The word I’m hearing is that the campaign really was reluctant to accept her resignation, but how could they argue with a women who thought that if she stayed on she might be raped, battered, or murdered for doing so? As Chris Bowers points out, this is a pattern from the right wing – these denunciation campaigns are always backed up by threats of physical violence. Donohue got what he wanted because of the people who respond to his sort of rhetoric by threatening women with rape.
Update Melissa McEwan has also resigned, citing as her reason the same sort of threats. The right wing has discovered that intimidation, threats and that insisting their religion is off limit from any critique works. They got their two scalps, and they’ll be back for more.
This is the sort of behaviour that Malkin and Donohue encourage. It’s what happens when they attack people.”
    They get letters from Christians

The “last word?” If you approve of the typical thuggish behavior from your friends on the right, sure.

    They get letters from Christians

Ah yes, but according to certain wingnuts, those letters are probably fakes:

And even if we accepted that somebody sent such e-mails… they’re so convenient to the Grand Central Liberal Narrative (we are the anointed, we have the vision, anyone who opposes us is a monster who must be destroyed) that it seems very likely to me they got some friend to send the e-mails, just so they could post them on the blog.

And why, you ask? Well, it’s simple:

Lefties and liberals make almost a religious fetish out of claiming to have received death threats.

Yeah! Take that, you loony libs with your holy worship of abortion and faked threats!

You really have gone off the deep end on this Marcotte thing. You might want to curb your criticism, after all, a review of some of your posts from the past (e.g. Jan Hamsher’s of the left, supporting Bush, Republicans and the Iraq war, etc.) would paint you as Doug Feith stupid, and batshit crazy as well.

I essentially quit going to the Pandagon blog when one of the bloggers (wasn’t Amanda) said the Beatles are overrated, but considers Oasis brilliant.

The irony of that statement is that Oasis (who are terrible) could not have written the music they did without the help of the Beatles

Yes, people seem too willing to forget: No matter how disingenuously or abominably Donahue acted, Amanda is in no small part culpable, too, just for being so immoderate and professionally immature in her past postings.

There are plenty of bomb-throwers on the left–Ezra Klein (erstwhile Pandagonner), Matty Yglesias, et al–who make their points forcefully, entertainingly, and legitimately, without stooping to Amanda’s level.

Sadly, I cannot think of anybody on the right in the Klein/Yglesias mold.

I think it’s disgraceful that Amanda is being besieged by death threats. There is no conceivable reason for that, other than derangement. For once, I can see through to the bottom of Amanda’s charge of mysogyny.

I hate to say this on your blog, man, but I get a lot more out of hers. You’re a blast and all, but she actually notices things I don’t, instead of acting as a bridge between conservatism and sanity (which has its own rewards).

Also, it’s freaking poor form to dump on her when she’s getting rape threats.

Also, it’s freaking poor form to dump on her when she’s getting rape threats.

So some idiot threatened her and now no one can criticize her.
    Because She is a Victim.
Does that standard include George Bush, Dick Cheney, the accused Duke Lacrosse players or this guy?

“I hope you burn in hell,” read one e-mail. “You’re a (expletive) Nazi,” went another. “Teresa should have told you to go (expletive) yourself,” another friendly e-mailer offered. And these were among the milder communiques; those that included death threats will be forwarded to the senders’ respective hometown police departments.

    One of Young’s commenters writes:

I think it would be safe to predict that evidence of any domestic abuse between lesbians would put her mind into vapor-lock.

I would pay money to see that. The reaction, not the abuse.

Yeah, like noticing how we live in such an oppressive patriarchal, racist society which is trying to suppress her free speech and take away her uterus. And she noticed this too:

I’m not an idiot. I’m a twat. Get it straight.

I’m a hot, moist, inviting twat. Warm, wet, inviting. But not to you or your friends. Even if I were single, these nubile thighs do not wrap around the hips of Republicans. You can fuck yourselves or the dry twats of the self-hating misogynists who will allow you tiny penis to penetrate them.

You’re right Kimmitt, she is wicked insightful.

Actually, I got threatening phone calls and letters after the local newspaper ran a few of my LTEs that were critical of Shooter. However, they only lasted a couple of days each time. They are disturbing, though, and I could see why some people would change their behavior after receiving them for weeks.

As for Paul L feeling that some magical voice is demanding he not criticize Amanda due to her being a victim of death-threats: Swing for the fences, Paul. Rip that bitch a new asshole. Yeah! Pile it on!

It’s not like we had any respect for your pratings anyway.

Is that any different than your observation that Anna Nicole-Smith spread herself wide for Hustler?

Did you ever find that issue in your extensive porn collection? Many of us were interested in confirmation of the claim.

I’ll join the (small) chorus–if the post you linked to is representative, Cathy and her chorus have a pretty narrow scope for accusations of crazy. Not that Amanda might not fit within it, but that’s a pretty pot/kettle trade.

I too would be interested in that, for research purposes of course. A lot can be learned about society at large by studying it’s various expressions of pornography. But it’s hard work.

I have to agree with John; heck, I agreed with him on this back when we disagreed on most things. I don’t have anything against radical feminism — I did a thesis on Donna Haraway, for Pete’s sake — but she’s just an awful blogger, and I stopped reading Pandagon since I didn’t have the Greasemonkey magic to filter out her posts.

    Um, Dick23?

Hey, I’m 1 1/2 hours from Seattle. Do I need to come down there and slap that smirk off your liberal face? I’ve already offered to put a boot in Darrell’s ass, and he’s been peeing his pants ever since. At least he hasn’t responded, so we can all assume he’s wetting the bed. Again.

See you March 1st at B&O Espresso near Broadway at 4:30. Be prepared for the slapping. I’ll be the one with the quad ice mocha. You’ll be the one in the dress and the Bush Lied t-shirt.

If the bus is late, slap yourself for me.

Nice debating technique, Kimmitt I guess it is the best that you can do without resorting to the liberal’s favorite of deleting or modifying comments you disagree with.

As for Paul L feeling that some magical voice is demanding he not criticize Amanda due to her being a victim of death-threats: Swing for the fences, Paul. Rip that bitch a new asshole. Yeah! Pile it on!

The Magic voice was Kimmitt. Here is the quote:

Also, it’s freaking poor form to dump on her when she’s getting rape threats.

Cathy and her chorus have a pretty narrow scope for accusations of crazy

Care to point to a example of crazy. As a example of crazy, I post Amanda’s Duke quote again.
