Why is the FDA acting like the appearance of contaminated basic food products is only a threat to the pet food chain, when these products are also used in the human food chain?
What protections are in place to prevent unexpected (not specifically looked for) contaminants in basic food ingredients, especially ones purchased from overseas?
Apparently melamine, a suspect in the pet food case, might be used to elevate the apparent food content of gluten and thereby raise its price in the marketplace. If food scam artists can do this as easily as it appears they might …. what is to prevent terrorists from using something like melamine foam (a rather benign material, aka Mister Clean Magic Eraser) as a carrier for more deadly toxins?
When George Bush talks about the terrorists “following us home” why hasn’t he built a DHS that actually provides some security for basic things?
