Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Dear Washington Post, you are the darkness now.

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

Jesus watching the most hateful people claiming to be his followers

Tick tock motherfuckers!

One way or another, he’s a liar.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

“But what about the lurkers?”

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

You passed on an opportunity to be offended? What are you even doing here?

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

Help Me Please

This post is in: Previous Site Maintenance, General Stupidity

FacebookTweetEmail

Here is the situation.

I switched computers, and have apparently lost all my information for this website. Meaning, I can not log in to make changes to the website because I not only do not know where to log in, but what my username PW are. Basically, all I have is the ability to log into WordPress.

How do I fix this? It has been so long since I touched the site I do not know where to begin. Would everything be at Hosting Matters?

Scroll down a little for what to do about forgotten passwords.

You’ll have to prove who you are to HM, and then they will email you a new password.

Presumably your username will not change (not that that matters, since you don’t know what it is).

They also might have to give you the URL of your site’s control or admin page or whatever they call it.

I have several websites and am also disorganized, so this is a common problem for me. The hosting companies have always been very nice about it. Usually I just need my monthly billing info, email or similar information to prove I’m not stealing someone elses website.

Good on ya, TBM. I was thinking there should be something like that for WordPress but before i could go look for it, there’s your post.

Absolute worst case, if you have the database login info (which you may not), we could probably hack the encrypted password in there. But better to go the proper WP route, particularly the automatic e-mailer portion.

Or did Tim sucker you into taking his old Compaq?

I am organizing a day of prayer for you, John.

I think that’s what my Republican friends do in times like these. I have some calls in to Kanasas and Tennessee.

I assume that the effect will hit fairly soon.

Find yourself a wife/girlfriend. They’ll remind you of everything, everyday, all the time….so that you’ll never forget. You’ll learn damn well to remember usernames, passwords, and you brother-in-law’s wife’s nephew’s bah mitz anniversary.

Interesting question! I do, actually, have Republican friends, especially at work.

I am a very tolerant and acceptting, nonjudgmental person. Anticipating the snark, let me remind everyone that ppGaz is a persona, not a real person. I’m extremely easy to get along with.

Well, actually, I see they can’t be completely wingnutty if you tolerate them. I have a pretty good idea what you (not ppGaz, not TZ… but YOU) tolerate. Okay, I might meet them ;) .

    Vladi G,

If you read the post carefully, he can post (probably because there’s a cookie somewhere with his ongoing session ID). He just can’t configure anything else. But come to think of it, that session info wouldn’t make it across the migration of computers, so…. yeah, now I’m confused.

    Good question, Vladi G. :)

You wouldn’t have this problem if you wrote this information down in a computer info notebook and kept track of your accounts (you could even put it in a locked diary, or a locked strong box so no one could get it). Just an idea for the future.

I do everything possible in Firefox rather than IE, so periodically I just back up my C:\Documents and Settings\myusername\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox folder. I’d highly recommend this, as it backs up things you usually take for granted like your history, bookmarks, autocomplete, stored passwords, cookies, etc. You can completely wipe your HD and install a virgin copy of Windows, install Firefox, and copy over your backup of this folder–and have total continuity in your browser and web password settings. I highly recommend this in the future, John.

For IE there’s no easy one-stop backup for this stuff, although you can use the crappy and unreliable Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to approximate it. I don’t recommend relying on it.

Apparently WordPress treats backslashes as escape characters. Insert them where appropriate in the path above.
