I’ve always liked DG — except for his backup work with MC Rove at the correspondents dinner, yikes — but I didn’t know he was on a morning show. Which one?

Is everyone getting a look-see in the old Imus spot on MSNBC? I think Scarborough had his shot last week and some chick the week before.
I think David Gregory is one of the better reporters and have enjoyed the times when he’s filled in on Hardball while Matthews was out.

I’d love to see Stephenie Miller get the slot but we know the chances of that.
I could live with Gregory. He at least can conduct a decent interview which was the best part of Imus. I think a better foil than the Radio Chick would help though.

I don’t trust him. He is getting too close to the people he is supposed to be investigating, just like Russert. Sometimes he can be very good, but sometimes he just lets himself be treated just like Timmeh by DC Dick.

Agreed, MikeF. Gregory was one of my favorites for a while, and seemed willing to be combative with whoever was lying to him from the White House podium, but lately he’s seemed to close to his subjexts.

I also worry about Gregory being an enabler.
The show also came to a screeching halt over Gregory’s inability to handle a time-delay interview with Seinfeld & Rock. Granted, those are tough anyway, but when you have comedians on, you just feed them straightlines and let them riff, the same as politicians…though you are not supposed to do it with the latter.

It will be interesting to see if he turns out to be just another DC media bonesmoker, one of the boys who are in it for the luxury box tickets for the Redskins games, and the invitations to parties, and the lunches with the powerful, and the golf.
In other words, like Russert, or worse, like Matthews, who is the most shameless gusher in front of women and power that I have ever seen in a “journalist” in my life.
Oh, he has his occasional hangover and tantrum like he did yesterday, but that’s just a reaction from being drunk the rest of the time on the rush of being face to face with the powerful and the influential. The guy used to work in the White House, for crissakes. He’s one of them.

Good christ, I guess I have to turn in my Liberal/Progressive Membership Card because I thought Stephanie Miller flat out suuucked when she guest hosted. It was painfully bad. I’d rather watch Scarborough, who was much better than I thought he would be. Haven’t seen Gregory yet, but I can imagine he’d be pretty good.

There are actually two David Gregorys….
1) The one who asks tough questions during the White House press gaggles….
2) The one who shows up on the evening news to spout “news” that is little more than that days beltway talking points.
sounds like the first one showed up today.

I’m with Kevin, liked Scarborough much more than Gregory. I think the people he was teamed with made for a better overall show.
I probably was turned off by one of Imus’ guys being there even though it wasn’t that vile producer “the bald creep”.
