More than half of Iraqis believe that the country is worse off today than under Saddam (via).
For the first time since 2003, fewer than half in the country, 42 percent, said that life in Iraq now is better than it was under Saddam Hussein, the late dictator accused of murdering tens of thousands during a brutal regime.
At least the poll has some good news mixed in with the bad. In a sign of growing unity across the sectarian divide, virtually everybody in Iraq thinks it is OK to attack Americans.
Coming up next: rightwing bloggers explain why you should only listen to polls they like.
The Other Steve
Why do Iraqis hate Iraq?
Don’t they know, they are undermining the occupation!?
ThymeZone
MSNBC is aiding the enemy.
Everyone knows that most Iraqis don’t speak fluent English. How can we be sure that they even understood the questions?
chopper
fact of the day: tim f hates america.
Rome Again
Love begets love, and hate begets hate. Is this such a difficult concept to understand?
We invade and occupy their country, of course they’re going to unite against us. There should never have been an American occupation at all. I certainly don’t agree with this war, but I disagree with the occupation itself even much more vehemently.

I fully expect some rightwingers to attack the polling methodology. Oversampling of Iraqis who hate America! Too many Iraqis out building schools when the poll takers came by! Poll takers unwilling to take opinions of dead Iraqis who would have supported America!
Tim F.
Maybe the pollsters with happy data sets all got kidnapped and tortured to death.
tBone
That’s your cue, Mac/EEEL.

You give them way too much credit.
On the printed poll report they’ll look for a dubious stamp similar to a Hummel figurine. Once they find that, or by its suspicious absence, everything in the poll will be negated. They’re sharp like that.
Perry Como
Which just proves that they hate America.

I see the problem. MSNBC asked Iraqi people who live in Iraq. Why couldn’t they poll Iraqi citizens who left their country … say five years ago? That’s clear discrimination right there. Liberal MSM, my sweet fanny!
AkaDad
If we had only listened to those Liberals in Hollywood, we would have never gotten into this mess…
Scruffy McSnufflepuss
Then the “smoking gun” would’ve been a mushroom cloud. This way is much better: Our nation loses thousands of soldiers and squanders its economic and miitary clout, becoming a banana republic like Russia circa 1993. Everyone ignores us. Next time Osama wants to take on a world superpower, he’ll have to attack China. America is saved, and we owe it all to Bush!
Bubblegum Tate
Hmmm…perhaps this has been Bush’s plan all along. Perhaps Assrocket at Pauerleine and Noonan BushbotsforBush are correct in their characterization of Bush as a genius among Philistines.
And perhaps I will be given several billion dollars today. It could happen!

The 42 percent figure strikes me as being suspiciously high. From what I have seen, the condition of the country has not been improved by the occupation, to put it mildly. If ‘virtually everybody’ thinks it is OK to attack Americans, then there must be a substantial number of people who see that life has been improved by the American attack, but who nevertheless resent Americans enough to wish them harm.
Half of humanity would just as soon be batshit crazy as not, I’ll grant you; but this still seems strange to me.
