Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

I desperately hope that, yet again, I am wrong.

It’s a new day. Light all those Biden polls of young people on fire and throw away the ashes.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

“I never thought they’d lock HIM up,” sobbed a distraught member of the Lock Her Up Party.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Pelosi: “He either is stupid, or he thinks the rest of us are.” Why not both?

… gradually, and then suddenly.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

The arc of the moral universe doesn’t bend itself. it’s up to us.

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

“woke” is the new caravan.

Spilling the end game before they can coat it in frankl luntz-approved dogwhistles.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Canadians fare poorly on their own citizenship test. When is the last time that someone tested Americans?

Then we’d know that Americans were stupider than canadians.

    Can’t have that happen.

At least now we know why those crazy Alabama rednecks start bleating over immigration. There’s just no way that state could survive a massive influx of smart people. It would completely upset their traditional way of life.

Mexicans would be doing the jobs that Americans just don’t want to do. Like learning basic math and reading skills. And being able to recite more than the first two Constitutional Amendments.

actually they did that not to long ago. The results weren’t encouraging.

I say that anyone who advocates for building that idiotic boarder fence, arresting all illegals or any other stupid, unrealistic immigration “reforms” should have to pass the citizenship test.

That is rather depressing. I know we often get snippy when Americans think that our capital is Toronto. But then to find out that other Canadians think that as well…ugh.

BTW: did a practice citizenship test; scored 18/20. (Screwed up on the reason European settlers first came here, and also screwed up the names of the three main groups of Aboriginal Peoples in Canada.)

in 2000 i was biking in northern italy and met a great canadian couple. they were astonished that i knew the name of the prime minister. plainly they had very low expectations of US citizens.

I thought the capital of Canada was Newfoundland?

I took the US Citizenship questions portion of the test online about a year and a half ago. Out of 100 questions I got 99 correct.

The capital of Canada *is* Toronto. Don’t believe those liars in Ottawa.
