Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Come on, man.

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Bark louder, little dog.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

We still have time to mess this up!

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

I really should read my own blog.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

No one could have predicted…

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

After roe, women are no longer free.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

I see the peanut gallery is up to its usual “Jail Paris Hilton” standards today.

Great. The GOP is unraveling, 200+ killed in Iraq over the weekend, Mitch McConnell says the people have decided that Iraq wasn’t worth it …. and we have a post about Cindy Sheehan.

    Sweet Jesus, MYM.

Mother Sheehan has decided to run for Congress!

    Against…(drum roll, please)…Nancy Pelosi!

    (Cough…gasp)

Ummm…is there any truth to the rumor that John Cole is going to head up her campaign? We all know what a big fan of her’s he is. (snark)

Well, let me think…could “Amateur Hour” pull us out of all the various holes we’re in? That’s kind of a tough one, right?

    Uh…no…

TZ – It’s ALL head-banging material. I’ve always had a good deal of pessimism…it’s sort of an ingrained thing. My late mother used to say, “Cheer up, things could be worse…so I cheered up, and sure enough, things got worse”. It was only slightly tongue-in-cheek. She was always and remained to her dying day a “do-gooder”…even after she more or less gave up the rest of humanity. “Bleeding-Heart Liberal”…totally “unhip”, d’ya wanna make somethin’ of it? (j/k) Anyway, our current situation has vastly exceeded my WORST expectations and just seems to keep right on heading for this cliff. For a while it seemed surreal, but now it’s just the “status quo”…one that needs to be turned around somehow…

I’m not sure about that. I think that the correct message to draw from B4B is that the evidence in favor of evolution is much stronger than the evidence for heliocentrism, and, therefore, someone who rejects macroevolution should also reject heliocentrism.

The Denver comPost is a worthless rag. The author of that hit piece against B4B didn’t bother to contact us for comment. You might want to read my response to Karen E. Crummy (a fake name if ever there was one):

Last Word on the Denver Post Smear.

I contacted the Brownback campaign (through their official website) months ago to let them know about the good work being done by Students for Brownback and Blogs 4 Brownback. I did this because their front page at the time had a section called Brownback on the Blogs which contained excerpts (but no links) from a couple of obscure blog entries which was never updated.

I suggested they either update the section or drop it altogether. It looked silly without updated content.

I did say that I understood if they didn’t link to either of our websites since there is a danger linking to sites where they cannot control the message.

I got no response. Oh, well.

I’m not surprised that the response was essentially no comment. Why add credibility to what was obviously a hit piece? How would it benefit the campaign?

so you are saying that a reporter who seems to think that your blog is a spoof (which many, many folks suspect)

Furthermore, just because many folks mistakenly suspect something, that does not make it a fact.

I suspect you’re a mental vegetable, dribbling at the mouth and typing with your toes. I suspect someone scooped out your brain and replaced it with a live hamster.

But I’m not going to write an article about it and place it in the newspaper without perhaps asking someone who knows you or interviewing you myself.

But in the reality based community, if someone feels something, it must be true. And fit for print. I wouldn’t even wrap my fish with this libelous trash.

Karen E. Dummy made no attempt to contact US, when the object of her ridicule is our blog. That’s a smear job, pal.

Here’s Michael Savage, core member of the Brownback constituency and who is not a spoof, today:

You know, when I see a woman walking around with a burqa, I see a Nazi. That’s what I see — how do you like that? — a hateful Nazi who would like to cut your throat and kill your children. Don’t give me this crap that they’re doing it out of a sacred ritual or rite. It’s not required by the Quran that a woman walk around in a seventh-century drape. She’s doing it to spit in your face. She’s saying, “You white moron, you, I’m going to kill you if I can.”

This got picked up by an Egyptian newspaper and will shortly show up in the Iraqi press. Real American values for real Americans

I can’t believe I have to explain this to you.

    i was just asking….

It appears these so-called supporters – who also run the site Blogs 4 Brownback (blogs4brownback.wordpress.com) – are really using the sites to parody the senator’s conservative political and religious beliefs, and perhaps make it appear that he is aligned with people who hold some, well, extraordinary notions.

The sites look official and have blogrolls linking to a number of bona fide conservative websites, including Brownback’s presidential campaign. Postings from bloggers with names such as Mrs. T.D. Gaines-Crockett and Sisyphus provide just enough accuracy, and religious scripture, to appear oddly legitimate – even to other conservatives who comment on the musings.

But then as one continues to read, some things start to look rather questionable.

so THIS is a smear? like i said:

there are so many things on the inter-tubes that i do not understand.

Senator David Vitter (R-LA), used the DC Madam’s escort service? Wow, another hypocrite. Religious too! God and wife have forgiven him, so no harm, no foul. Nothing to see here, move along, move along…

Of course, in May, ABC said that after perusing the list they had found no ‘noteworthy’ names, so they would not be outing anyone.

I wonder if Vitter thinks that he is not noteworthy. I would bet otherwise, but in this case I think he was glad that he got the heads up from ABC. Makes it easier to confess to the wife and church and be forgiven though…

Poor Psycheout is misunderstood…boo-hoo…and from his remarks I gather that he and those other “citizen journalists” have unfairly smeared in an ugly and vicious manner by the Denver Post…or so he claims…

…I’ve never looked at the site, but I can tell from his posts here that “Psycheout” has NEVER, EVER smeared anyone in a post…

YAWN…but I heard somewhere once or twice, maybe, that “What goes around comes around”…or something like that.

But perhaps we are all just too dazzled by his brilliance to truly understand.
