Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Consistently wrong since 2002

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Petty moves from a petty man.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

It is not hopeless, and we are not helpless.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

You cannot shame the shameless.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

Text STOP to opt out of updates on war plans.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

When they say they are pro-life, they do not mean yours.

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

Someone mentioned WKRP in one of our earlier threads, so I am forced to provide the greatest WKRP clip ever:

As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.

One of those shows that, after I did radio on a small level for a decade, rings truer with time.

Everyone thought that. Well, except maybe for Burt Reynolds.

I’d take Bailey over Jennifer. Mary Anne over Ginger too.

First thing I was reminded of while watching the clip. That was a good show.

Great clip, John…I LOVED WKRP, wish there was something as good on the telly these days.

    Bailey v. Jennifer…Bailey, without a shadow of a doubt.

Mary Anne over Ginger, too – no question.

I think Gilligan & the Skipper were just a little too “Little Buddy – Big Buddy”, if ya’ know what I mean…not that there’s anything wrong with that, mind you.

They’re hitting the ground like bags of wet cement!!

That and the Barney Miller hash brownies episode are tied for my all-time personal favorite.

    Ah, the ’70s.

    Ohhh, the HUMANITY!!!!

Bailey was infinitely sexier than whatsername. I can’t even imagine anyone (except Burt Reynolds) finding whatsername more attractive.

Shepherd Book from Firefly was on that show right?

The funniest moment in network series television ever. Loved the Les Nessman takeoff on the broadcast of the Hindenberg disaster.

WKRP was the only network television show I ever watched with a box of Kleenex handy. Most of the time, I laughed so hard tears were running down my face.

I hear there’s a CD collection coming out, but because of copyright and royalty problems, the original rock soundtrack is missing and generic stuff has been substituted. Too bad.

That was a great ep of WKRP, but my favorite scene was when Johnny Fever and Venus were on the air in a drinking contest whereby a doctor measured their blood alcohol & had them try a driving simulator.

    Yes, Bailey was a hottie.

I remember watching WKRP in syndication as a child and I had fond memories of it. By odd coincidence, I was sent a copy of Season One on DVD to review for my blog and surprisingly, the show aged very, very well.
