Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Everyone is in a bubble, but some bubbles model reality far better than others!

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Ah, the different things are different argument.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

If you’re pissed about Biden’s speech, he was talking about you.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

‘Museums aren’t America’s attic for its racist shit.’

Trump’s legal defense is going to be a dumpster fire inside a clown car on a derailing train.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

The revolution will be supervised.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Innocent people don’t delay justice.

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

“And when the Committee says to “report your income,” that could mean anything!

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

Let me file that under fuck it.

I saw Rush in concert on Saturday. Packed end to end. Gotta admire a band that gets no airplay, no advertising, but can pack a large venue end to end.

“now it comes to this, all those speeches of mass deception, from the middle east to the middle west”

Check out the lyrics from the new album, it has some poignant observations of the current political situation. You can tell Peart is hopping mad.

Saw them a month ago in an ampitheater in Scranton PA. There were a lot of blue collar types in my audience. Makes me wonder what they thought of the lyrics. But then, my experience growing up in Tennessee was that “good old boys” were often infinitely more rational than the rich Republicans I met when I went to Dartmouth.

I was also fascinated by the bipolar audience. Average age must have been mid 40s under the top in assigned seats. Average age late 20s out on the lawn.

You lucky bastard – they managed to hit my neck of the woods on June 18th this year and it turns out my wife did not want a Rush concert for her birthday (imagine that!).

I saw them on the “Vapor Trails” tour and loved the crowd split – a lot of 30 and 40+ parents with their kids (who all had earplugs in but seemed to still enjoy the show). And currently my kids (7 and 11) really like “Far Cry” off the new album.

I took my wife with me to the Rush concert.. the guy behind me congratulated her for putting up withe whole concert. (she’s not a fan)

The new stuff was pretty well received, I saw a lot more energetic responses for those songs than the classic.

When I was leaving the concert I saw a guy with “Bush/Cheny 2004” sticker. I was just wondering if he’s been listening to the lyrics. :-) He’s probably a “Bytor and the Snow Dog” fan. ;)

One month! I cannot wait. Heard their 3.5 hour shows are down to 2.5 cuz Lee and Peart are too friggin old. I’m sure that includes the standard 18 minute Peart solo skins banging extravaganza. I’m pitchin a tent just thinking about it. Booyah.

One more topic since we’re in open thread.

Conyers apparently needs only three more congressmen to get onboard and he would start impeachment hearings for Cheney. It’s about time. These guys have been doing power grabs for the past couple of weeks.
