Yes, there is likely to be a lot of ugly killing if we leave…just like what is going on there now. Our presence is not going to stop it and may in fact be exacerbating it. It’s terrible and sad, but in the end the Iraqi factions themselves must decide when they are tired of killing each other and come to the sort of agreements that will allow them try and develop a functional, civilized nation. I think it’s painfully clear that we cannot cajole, plead or threaten them into doing this.
And yeah, it’s a mark of shame that our “Leaders” have placed the Iraqi people in this shit-fest situation through arrogrance, hubris and deceit. If and when they DO finally become functional we should do everything in our power to help them repair and reconstruct their country.

But I hit the fast-forward on my TiVo as soon as Matthews lets them start talking over each other or yelling at each other. It’s pointless, and it’s not interesting.
And that’s one reason why I was so pissed when Woodruff (who is a terrible moderator) let Morgan start yelling and talking over her opponent on PBS. One of the things I like about PBS is that they don’t do that shit; I count on being able to at least hear the arguments there, from either side.
