Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

Republicans in disarray!

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

T R E 4 5 O N

American History and Black History Cannot Be Separated

Battle won, war still ongoing.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

The willow is too close to the house.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

HOW DO YOU KNOW THINGS ARE BETTER IN IRAQ? There’s less media coverage.

Is there any point in actually discussing what the study really says?

So that must mean that when coverage picks up again in September, we’ll know that things are worse?

Wait, no, that would mean that things are better, right?

Well, there you have it. If Fox News isn’t reporting on Iraq, then it must mean the war is going really well. Problem solved. Do the math.

Truly the Mission Accomplished Cheer leading Squad is in its last throes.

From the once mighty herds that thundered across the plains, bellowing about the librul MSM twisting the news out of Iraq and trampling all who stood against them, they’ve been reduced to a few sickened bovines limping along and bleating ‘Scott Beauchamp,’ and ‘Less news is good news’

I know I should not watch as the last members twitch and die, but I find the macabre spectacle of an ideological extinction event strangely compelling and am unable to look away.

By Instapundit standards, proof that there is no good news from Iraq is shown by Fox covering the war only half as much as CNN and MSNBC. Maybe Fox should do a twofer and sponsor a charity drive to paint Iraqi schools — pimp themselves and give them good news to cover.

What would really work well for all (except the chronically discontented posters of Balloon Juice), is a selection of news channels ideologically attuned to the wishes of those who watch it. Let’s say 10 distinct shadings of the days events presented in such a way to please YOU the viewer.

That way you can watch the news and come away believing that things really are going your way.

Think of the happiness it would bring to people consumed by the worry and strife of daily life in our corporate superstate.

At least now we know what Karl Rove meant when he said he was leaving the WH to “spend more time with his family”. His biological/social relatives having proved inadequate, he’s officially adopted Rupert Murdoch as his Real Dad.

OT but in a way related, one of Tom DeLay’s bloggy people speculates about why Howard Dean is nowhere to be found.

So who was the raven that landed on the handle bars of crazy uncle Howard’s rascal scooter and quothed him nevermore?

Perhaps it was Hillary Clinton complaining to the DNC. Realistically speaking, her unfavorables are high enough already without Dean fueling the fire of polarization on the eve of her presidential bid.

Or maybe the Democrat congressional leadership saw their approval ratings dropping like a cartoon anvil and decided to slow the descent by silencing Dean.

In all honesty, however, I suspect the DNC high money command is to blame (or thank). All it takes is a few influential donors threatening to turn off the spigot unless the public embarrassment is dealt with. They weren’t going to fund the cause anymore unless the DNC muzzled the vociferous Vermonter.

Regardless, the Tim Russerts and the George Stephanopolous’ of the world either are not seeking him out on Sunday or they are being told he is unavailable; a telling circumstance whichever way you slice it.

    Hmmm

I’m not sure what no (or little) news means. But I am sure it’s not what Reynolds of DeLay’s bloggy person think it is.

Decreased coverage? Could be that 40% pf the vehicles (Those that weren’t blown up by IED’s) are worn out and it’s now difficult to get footage of them rolling along in triumph. Could be, too, that the troops look haggard and drawn or just plain crazy. Who wants to see that?

No footage of the Maliki government either. Seems that, given breathing room by the breathless Surge, the Iraqis did not morph into a gaggle of Thomas Jeffersons, Ben Franklins, and Tom Paines. They remained human beings, subject to forces beyond our control and with interests that may not be ours. They, ungrateful devils, may even want to write their own history and make their own mistakes. Covering that would take honest insight and some understanding of the realities of Iraq.

    I’m not holding my breath.

Reynolds has always suffered from ADD, dyslexia, and Asperger’s Syndrome, it’s nothing new. But leaving that aside, there actually are some clues that things are going a bit better in Iraq since the Surge, and the sad thing is that nobody cares one way or the other except a few Iraqis. They could have Woodstock II in Baghdad tomorrow, and nobody in the US would believe it. We’re a cynical lot.

So, a dude who gets no party invitations is just as unpopular as the dude who gets invitations but turns them down?

Sure guy. Maybe Dean should get himself a blog so he can appear to be relevant like…oops, never mind.

i’d look at how much cash is coming in to the DNC to see what he’s up to. if it’s a lot (and dean has brought more cash in than any of the previous heads of the org), then he’s probably busy raising tons of cash. if not, then he’s being held down.

Didn’t we already have that? Still, it is true that if the Iraqis had a big concert with acts that protested the war, few in the US would believe it…at least fewer than 60 members of the US Senate would believe it.

Reminds me of Cassidy’s epic post, “But if Petreaus came back tomorrow and said everything in Iraq was all sunshine in roses, would you believe him? Or would you just bury your head in the sand of librul media talking points? Why do you hate our troops?”

In Philip Knightley”s book, The First Casualty, he discusses the exact same trend that occurred in Vietnam…that by 1968 or sometime in there, only three correspondents were left in Vietnam providing coverage.
