I don’t have time to post anything other than the observation that it is hot as hell outside.
I got halfway to the bus stop, and considered turning around and going back home to get another shirt to replace the one I had sweat through.
Yeah. That hot. I hate this shit. I want to live where it is 65 degrees year round.
Cain
Come to Oregon.
cain
myiq2xu
Steely McBeam should have tipped you off, John. You died and went to hell.
Ned Raggett
Cain’s right. I’d consider it except for the longer winter nights, plus I’m addicted to Southern California’s far drier heat.
JWeidner
Or Southern California. Although I admit, our average is probably closer to the low – mid 70’s rather than mid 60’s.
‘Course, in a couple more years, it may not matter WHERE you live. It just might wind up being hot, hot, hot everywhere.
Ned Raggett
Off to Alaska! They’ll even pay me to live there!
Dreggas
WTF?
Dude, it’s been hot as hell and humid here. Now it’s cooling off but still humid.
Jake
It’s not so much the heat. Or the humidity. That sucks but I’ve learned to cope. My problem is that for the past week it was cool enough for long sleeves during the day. Excellent.
And then, without any transition or notice or voice out of the damn sky: HEAT WAVE.
(I’m assuming your weather has been pretty much like DC’s.)
The Other Steve
Ahh, but you see we get to make up for it with longer summer days.
The Other Steve
Don’t worry about the heat John. If it’s like the weather that came through Minnesota… by this weekend you’ll be bitching about the 4′ of water in your front yard. :-)
Fortunately, the rain went south of where I live, plus the fact that since ’93 I’ve always made it a point to live on top of a hill.
Ned Raggett
Compared to the East Coast? I lived there for three years and what we have out here is goddamn mild in comparison.
SPIIDERWEB™
cain… Hahaha. Ya gotta be kidding. I ran into a snowstorm in April in Oregon at Grant’s Pass. The Northwest is not as temperate as some would make it out to be. Shame on you.
Hey, just kidding cain, about the shame part.
My personal preference is low to mid 70s. That’s perfect.
Now I live in 80° (at night) to 101° temps. Not ideal.
Third Eye Open
John,
Stop yer bellyachin’…
Its been 101-103 REAL temp. here in Florida for weeks now. Why don’t you look on the bright side, the longer summers we will have in the future, the more time there is to look at the barely dressed college women. Thank God(s) for our constantly crumbling moral values; That in of itself is worth fighting the ter’rists fer!
Zifnab
Come down to Texas where its a balmy 102 on a daily basis. If you don’t like the heat, you’ll love the thick-as-soup humidity which really does a good job of giving you that “I’m sweety before I’ve taken three steps out the door” feeling.
I blame Al Gore.
Tom Hilton
Greetings from sunny San Francisco!
Okay, not sunny. Still: it doesn’t get very hot here!
Dreggas
I guess it depends on what part. Sure it could get hot and humid in NY but having temps locally in the hundreds plus the humidity was miserable last weekend.
Dreggas
That’s what I heard the year I went to Fulsom Street Fair and it was in the 90’s :P
Helena Montana
“I want to live where it is 65 degrees year round.” Here in Boston, it barely got out of the 60s all week. Tomorrow, however–90 to 97. It was nice while it lasted.
Pb
NY? Pfft. Try NC, for starters…
Dreggas
I did BCT in Ft. Jackson So Carolina. I know just how miserable it can get.
cleek
here in NC, too. and we haven’t had any appreciable rain in over a month. we keep hoping some mild-but-moist tropical storm will drape itself over NC for a while.. but no luck so far
timb
Third Eye Open Says:
Two things: First,
Third Eye Open, do you have a newsletter I can subscribe too? A blog? Are you rich and seeking a sycophant? I have a lot on my schedule and I’m not too fond of Florida, but I can sacrifice for someone with the rare vision of the truly GREAT.
Secondly, John just needs to become a plutocrat. Then, he can stay in his current home (denuded of mountaintops it may be) for the Fall and Spring, winter in New Mexico, and summer in Maine. It worked the Rockerfellers!
Andrew
Woo! Water restrictions in effect and federal drought disaster relief requests for NC.
Bubblegum Tate
Well, it doesn’t get hot until October. Although I was sailing on the Bay yesterday (team-building exercise for my job, if you can believe that) and somehow managed to pick up a nice little sunburn.
Also, it’s always nicer in Oakland.
jnfr
I think Colorado has begun to transition into tropical rain forest.
Face
You and every single person in the state of IA…
It’s a comfy 75 here in the Sunflower State.
I did NOT see the “Boston” part coming…can’t put my finger on it….wait….
CaseyL
Vancouver, BC. Like Seattle, only cloudier :)
The summer here in Seattle was a bit strange. The weather cycle seems to have accelarated some. We got August weather in July, and now are enjoying what’s become known locally as “Augustober.”
Dave
San Francisco, pretty much 65 all year round if you live in the Sunset/Richmond.
Oh yeah and no humidity.
Cain
Vancouver BC rocks.
Grant’s Pass of course is high elevation so yes, it’s going to have a lot of snow during winter time. But if you don’t live in the mountains then you’ll be fine.
Besides, Oregon has it all, mountains, rivers, high desert, rain forest, hot springs, plains, valleys, and what not.
More importantly, Cindy Sheehan never visits here. Perfect for John.
cain
RSA
Yet another voice from NC chiming in (adding to Pb, cleek, and Andrew; we should have a BJ party if John ever travels south–oh, wait, that didn’t come out sounding quite right): The current drought in the Triangle area is murderous. We have had a couple of summer showers in the past three days or so, but it’s not been pleasant overall.
Dreggas
That part didn’t help either *snicker*.
RSA
Outdone by my own special combination of cleverness and stupidity.
Krista
It was 107 here in Nova Scotia for a couple of weeks back in July. No a/c in my 2nd floor office either. Thank goodness it’s a pretty casual workplace, because our office attire was NOT professional during that time. (Fortunately, my bosses are humane. They’d call up at 1pm and say, “This is ridiculous. Go home.”)
Now, it’s more like 73. But it’s pouring rain. :(
myiq2xu
Best weather in the world is in San Jose, California. Average temp is 70 degrees, rarely goes below 45 or above 90.
Downside is, 3bdrm “starter” homes cost about half a mil, plus 1 arm, 1 leg and yer 1st born.
Third Eye Open
timb,
Thank you for the ego stroke, but sadly, my current position as resident florida state curmudgeon doesn’t leave me much time for the niceties of life, such as blogging or wiping completely, but any monitary support can be sent directly to me.
but…if you’re ever in the area of Tallahassee, drop me a line, and i’ll let you buy me a beer.
-CHEERS!
myiq2xu
I think you mean “no humility.”
Pb
Six feet under? Or in the Bat Cave, perhaps?
Tom Hilton
True, and true. (I know because I’m bicoastal–I’ve lived in San Francisco and Oakland.)
Punchy
I’ve alway meant to ask John when he’s gunna follow the KrazyKosKrowd and have a “YearlyJuice” party in some bar in Morgy or Vegas, or apparently NC.
Halffasthero
Minnesota in October and now getting into November. 55-65deg and easily the best time of year. Football and beer. Not much Steelers coverage though.
The Other Steve
Ahem! We’re referred to as the Krazy Kos Kidz by hotair and all the righty blogs, and we would prefer it if you would do similarly. :-)
I’m going to be in Chicago last weekend of October. At least there we can get some real pizza. :-)
Pug
Yeah, San Fran. It’s never hot and sometimes a little cold. Grew up in the area.
At the Denver-SF preseason game last weekend the Denver players were complaining about it being cold. In Houston, where I am, it was 97 and humid. Very comfortable.
If you are a perfesser, Berkeley is right across the Bay. Great weather, good school and expensive as hell.
Dreggas
Pfffft NY is where real pizza is made.
srv
Hmm, it’s 65 right now here in the Haight. We had a couple grey weeks this summer while everyone else has been baking for drowning.
Hmm. Getting close to Toronado time. I miss Tims beer blogging.
srv
Heh, it’s sunny over here at Buena Vista park. I can look out one window and see foggy Sunset and out another and see all the way to Oakland.
You just live in the wrong micro-climate.
Evilbeard
John, maybe you should check out Eureka, CA. It’s 50-70 all year round.
Tom Hilton
Sunny here downtown, too. Unfortunately I’m stuck in the office…
By the way, have you ever checked out the gravestone fragments there in BVP?
Beej
Oh, good grief! Face, why didn’t you tell everyone what it had been in the Sunflower state of Kansas for the last month-and-a-half? Pretty much like it has been here in the Cornhusker state, I’ll bet. Temps 95-100 with 50-70% humidity. Just another summer on the great plains. Now that mid-August is here, it’s finally raining and the temps have gone down. Hallelujah! Just in time for Cornhusker football. Of course, the temps won’t stay in the 70’s. It’s going to be in the 90’s again on Monday.
Helena Montana
How do you make those pretty little boxes around excepted text? I wanna stop looking like a rube.
CaseyL
Hey, I can totally get behind a YearlyJuice. It’d be a kick to meet everyone. And an agenda that mostly consists of watching football, yelling, and getting drunk… there’s no bad there.

Cain is right, come to Oregon. Right now it is 64.4 degrees on my porch. We sometimes hit 90 here (South Oregon Coast), but the yearly low temperature average varies from 40.5 (Jan) to 51.3 (Aug), and the yearly high temperature average is from 54.0 (Jan) to 68.0 (Sept). The averages are from years 1913 to 1996.
I run around in shorts year round. Since we moved here in 1992, the coldest it has ever got here was 28, which is rare. It has snowed a trace twice in that time. It rains from late September to early April, and averages 75.2 inches a year.
I love calling my sis around Christmas as it is not unusual for temps to hit in the low 70’s in December. She gets buried in snow and cold temps, and it drives her nuts when I do it…lol
Plus, you don’t have to shovel rain, nor will you slip and fall on ice!
Doubting Thomas
Folsom Street Fair? Ohhh Dreggas, you outed yourself! But it is the funnest festival in the City.
San Francisco would win for closest to 65 all year round, just don’t live in the Sunset. Oakland gets awfully hot, though.
The Central Coast is ideal… About 70 and usually sunny, plus the political climate here is more to your tastes John than the Bay area.
Bottom line: Anywhere on California’s Coast beats the rest of the nation. (and yes I am biased)
Helena Montana
Ooooh–thank you, myiq2xu and srv!

I think this is the very first time ever that BIRDZILLA has acknowledged another poster. I’m glad I was here to see that.

Here, here! I found the SQUAWKs particularly moving.
Maybe that’s the surprise Tim F. hinted about: He and John Cole have added NteraKtiveNsanitE (TM) to the program that writes BIRDZILLA.

Come to S.F. John and your journey to the Dark Side will be complete!
