Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

Republicans would impeach Biden if he bit into a whole Kit Kat rather than breaking the sections apart.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

We’re not going back!

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

Glad to see john eastman going through some things.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

You can’t love your country only when you win.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” is supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

He imagines himself as The Big Bad, Who Is Universally Feared… instead of The Big Jagoff, Who Is Universally Mocked.

Another missed opportunity for Jamie Dimon to just shut the fuck up.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

🎶 Those boots were made for mockin’ 🎵

Nikki Haley, who can’t acknowledge ‘slavery’, is a pathetic shill.

Stop using mental illness to avoid talking about armed white supremacy.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

I hear Chertoff is the likely replacement but why not go whole hog and nominate Michael Brown? It’s still an improvement.

Bets as to the new toadie?

I’ll go on a limb and say Orin Freaking Hatch. Whether or not he can hold both that gig and be a Senator (doubting…crossing 2 branches) is unclear.

Also predict–Dems will vote for anyone outside of Rove to be confirmed. They got rolled on FISA, they’ll get rolled here, too.

I wonder if Bush will violate his agreement with Reid, and do a recess?

    Nawwww, surely not?

Wait, I don’t get it. Why resign? When did the Bush Admin give two fucks about Congress, inquiries, or the image of propriety? This looks just like the Rumsfeld resignation. Exactly six months too late to matter. No one is going to look more highly on the White House now that Gonzo is Gonzo. The whole reason you sack these people quick is because you don’t want them getting up in front of the Judiciary Committee once, much less twice, to make total asses of themselves.

Every move this Administration makes seems to be caked with seven layers of incompetence. I mean, at this rate, why not force Congress to drag Gonzo out kicking and scream? I just… don’t get it.

    Rove alone = hmmm…..

Gonzo alone = dirty scumbag finally saw the handwriting…

Rove + Gonzo = something very, very bad (Iran, IMO) is about to happen.

Wait, I don’t get it. Why resign?

I think Alberto realized he was never going to get a Supreme Court seat, so he’s going to start a vaudeville act with Tony Snow and Karl Rove.

I think the White House correctly did the calculus that Gonzales being raked over the coals as sitting AG hurt them, and it had become impossible to defend him through their minions in the media—he was that bad. But now, if he is up there stammering before Leahy’s Committee, the FOX News, Rush etc. can play the “the guy resigned already, what do the Democrats want?” card and start to swing him over to sympathetic character.

    As opposed to merely pathetic.

Perhaps it is because they are, in fact, incompetent?

    That’s complete utter bullshit.

Are you seriously telling me that Bush knows Calculus? I don’t think so. I fucking failed Calculus twice in college before finally passing and I’m way more smart than Bush.

Shorter Occam’s Razor = The simplest explantation is probably correct.

The simplest explanation = The rats are deserting a sinking ship.

To assume this is all part of a diabolical plan is to assume competence in the Roach Motel White House.

heh, I liked how they framed it on MSNBC, the last member of the “Texas Mafia” is gone. Of course then they had senator Cornhole (Retard-TX) on there who was decrying it as a real shame that they were picking on poor little gonzo and how he was the highest level latino official and that the latino community was proud of him blah, blah, blah.

I find it funny (apropos?) that Cole’s “best quote so far” is one with a pretty major spelling error in it. Par for the course, I suppose. You tell John to “get Webster”, and he just instinctively runs to grab the rookie card of the best center the Steelers had in the 70’s and 80’s.

LOL! I didn’t say Bush did the calculus!

I’m with Punchy. It’ll be Hatch.

He’s just about the only “respected” guy who remained unashamed to defend Gonzales and the Administration through all of this. He’s been auditioning for the role all year.

Hatch would cruise to confirmation because he’s in the club—collegiality will trump Constitution—even though he will be just as obstructionist as Gonzales was.

Bush may still nominate somebody offensive (or at least un-confirmable) first to pick a fight and score points, then offer up Hatch as a compromise.

According to Sen. Cornyn, this is a sad day for America.

According to George Bush, Gonzales’ name was “dragged through the mud.”

    So there you have it.

We can only hope he resigned because some major story is about to break. More likely, it’s because it’s almost September, and people are starting to pay attention (relatively speaking) to the news again. I’ve always heard that August is a dead month, and they probably didn’t want Gonzales hanging over their head when things get going again.

We need to start calling our senators and tell them the only candidates we will accept as our next Attorney General will be any of the eight US Attorneys forced out of office for political reasons. Hell, I’d love Bud Cummins to get revenge for losing his office to a Rove lackey. I’d love to see Iglesias get confirmed, head up to the Oval Office, and shout “HA HA” at the SOB still sitting in there.

No, the best quote of the day is from Fark: “White House officials say Attorney General Gonzales has submitted his letter of resignation. However Gonzales says he can’t recall writing any such letter, or his reasons for taking such an action”

    Michael Demmons Says:

No, the best quote of the day is from Fark: “White House officials say Attorney General Gonzales has submitted his letter of resignation. However Gonzales says he can’t recall writing any such letter, or his reasons for taking such an action”

Gonzales went on to say there was a process in place but would not go into any real detail on what that process was.
