NYT:
Mike McConnell, the director of national intelligence, on Wednesday recanted his claim that the new surveillance powers recently given to the government helped foil a terrorist plot in Germany.
“Information contributing to the recent arrests was not collected under authorities provided by the Protect America Act,” Mr. McConnell said in a statement issued late in the day.
A Bush official admitted that he was wrong. Pegging signs of the imminent apocalypse is Michael Stickings’ purview so I won’t speculate about whether this means that the dead will soon rise out of their graves. But it sure doesn’t happen often*.
(*) Excepting abu Gonzales, who made a sort of side career out of correcting himself.

McConnell said it on Tuesday; he recants on Wednesday. But it’s still going to be the conventional wisdom, isn’t it?
numbskull
“Wrong”?
Tim, get out from under the fume hood.
He LIED and got called on it.

Nikki is right. How do you think the media coverage will compare between the original lie and the later correction?
Surabaya Stew
Can’t any of these f*ckers get their stories straight? How do they decide who starts the lie and when it gets “corrected”?

The reason the Petraeus testimony was on Monday and Tuesday was due to Washington taking the rest of the week off. That this was released “late in the day” was your basic document dump. No, it won’t get much media play, at all.

Beauty.
In addition to Reyes calling him out, I’d like to think his counterpart in Germany told him to StFu. BAdmin has a habit of taking credit for successes in other countries. I seem to recall some Bushie back patting when the UK rounded up the shampoo bombers.
I think it stems from the same mindset that makes them believe the US is the first country to ever experience a terrorist attack by a non-domestic organization and it must be fucking annoying for any nation that’s been dealing with this crap for years. But for all I know the Cheerleader-in-Chief thought his hard work during Yale games was directly responsible for any wins.
Ah-ha!
