Wow. I guess I was underrating USF because I was at USF-Auburn and honestly wasn’t that impressed with USF, since they nearly managed to lose to a horrible Auburn team doing everything they could to give the game away.

Now I begin drinking to prepare myself for the ugliness that will likely transpire when my beloved Tigers play Florida tomorrow. War Eagle, anyways.

You might wanna wait until Miss State gets their big win to relax too much. ;-)

Auburn’s pretty bad this year, but probably more like 6-6 bad than 3-9 bad. I’m hoping they have one more loss in them Oct. 6 vs. Vanderbilt, and then y’all can win out for all I care.

I work at FAU, along with all three of my co-bloggers. What’s the freaking deal here?

    Owls unite!

Seriously though, I’m not terribly shocked that so many people have gone to FAU. It’s the only public university in South Florida, and this isn’t exactly a small place.

What really blew my mind was seeing that FAU will be playing the University of Florida this season.

And Incertus, I’m not surprised that FAU has so many bloggers. I always thought the university had some of the best professors around.

Yeah, I’m hoping it’s not a worst-case scenario and recognizing that this is apparently a rebuilding year (hell, I’ll take 3-9 as long as one of those 3 is Alabama). And Tuberville has a knack for winning games he shouldn’t while also losing a few he shouldn’t (see LSU, Florida, Arkansas, Georgia last year) so Auburn could pull off a shocker, but I’m trying to stay realistic.

Forgot to mention to the WVU contingent, looking forward to the upcoming series with y’all. Not sure if we’ll be ready next year but 2009 should be a classic.

Hey, I was at the game, student section 204. Awesome game. Both team’s fans treated each other cordially for the most part. Great atmosphere. Over 15,000 students at the game. I was at the camp out this past Sunday night where several thousand camped out to get tickets at 6 Monday morning. It is really exciting to see a school transition from a so called “commuter school” to a traditional university per se. Great game West Virginia.
I will ramble because I am drunk and I have to get this out before I head to the bar. I played high school football in Polk County, home of Ray Lewis, Wayne Gandy, Tracy McGrady, Amare Stoudemire, “Fredex” Mitchell, Kenneth Brokenburr (former 4×100 Olympic Gold Medalist), and numerous other athletes. Every school in the country recruits this area heavier for skill position and defensive players than anywhere else in the country (lineman are different). This area is USF’s bread and butter. Expect bigger and better things over the next few years.

Sorry I forgot Travis Henry and Matt Grothe, USF’s QB. As well as Jamar Taylor, USF’s RB. Seven of the University of Florida’s incoming freshman came from Lakeland Senior High School, near consensus national high school football champion of last year. Look this area up, Louisville, specifically, loves to recruit here. Anyways, peace, sorry I am bragging. I am doing this everywhere.

I was sitting with the folks in section 239. Go BULLS!
    Observations:
    1) That was the SLOPPIEST game I have ever seen in my whole life. 10 turnovers total! Ten! My God, it got so bad there was relief to see the punters out there on fourth downs.
    2) Player of the Game: LB Moffitt. 2 INTs, first one the opening score that got South Florida revved up. The key player on the Bulls defense, which by all rights won the game.
    3) If Grothe throws it over the middle into double coverage one more time, I swear I am charging the field and tackling the idiot myself! AAAUUUGGGHHH
    4) I am, btw, officially deaf now. That was the loudest I’ve ever heard in my whole life. Those of you at home, how was the sound on ESPN2?
    5) No blimp! We shoulda had a blimp overhead! Damn you, Goodyear!
    6) Look on the bright side, ‘Eers: Louisville sucks. ;)
    7) This definitely throws the whole Big East into confusion, without a clear-cut alpha-dog team for the voters to back in the BCS system. Yes, Go BULLS and all, but honestly a lot of the voters are gonna have their quibbles about USF. Right now, it’s UConn and Syracuse at 1-0 as well, but that’s bound to change as they’re not really dominant programs. Right now, it’s Rutgers’ conference to lose. The matchup between Rutgers and USF is now the next Big Game.
    8) They should have had Lee Roy Selmon do the intros for the Bulls players, not Gruden. Chucky doesn’t have a thing to do with the program, while Selmon was the guy who gave the program its cachet and the money early on.
    9) The rules are pretty clear: upsetting a top 5 team at home gives the student fans the right to charge the field. I’m a little upset Security tipped the goalposts down early, but let’s be honest we don’t want any injuries out there…
    10) FAU?! Half you guys are from FAU?! BTW, whoever said Florida Atlantic is the only public U. in South Florida has forgotten about FIU, please check the map kthnx. Me, I used to work in Broward County across the border… Does teh traffic still suck down… well hell it’s Florida of course the traffic still sucks down there. Silly me. ;)

PaulW, one thing that surprised me was that there were not stats on the jumbotrons. Hell, it took me several series in the 3rd quarter to find out that Pat White was out. The announcing and jumbotron video was atrocious, but it pretty much always has been. The only bonus is that, because of the PRO stadium, we have lots of replays on two screens.

Well, this game has definitely inspired me to post more on substantive matters. Usually because of limited time, I place more premium on reading a greater variety of sources, but increasingly, it seems more enlightening to contribute one’s viewpoint and analyze the responses.
And yes, the game was sloppy, but attribute most of that to each teams’ pass rush. Neither team had any stable time to make reliable decisions in the pocket. In fact, neither team could form a pocket. Both defenses play very aggressively in regards to their coverages and blitz packages. It showed in this game. Arguably the biggest play of them game occurred when Grothe escaped to the right and threw that 55 yard touchdown pass. That one escape from the defense defined the game in what was, otherwise, a stalemate defensively. All three QB’s ran for their life in this game.

I can keep babbling, but expect a detailed comment the next time the housing market/ current market conditions are metnioned. At least USF and my previous school, Washington & Lee University, are good for something.

BTW, whoever said Florida Atlantic is the only public U. in South Florida has forgotten about FIU

Yeah, I did forget about FIU. But when you live down here for a few decades (outside of Dade county) a sort of schism occurs in your brain where you forget that anything in Miami actually does exist in Florida because it seems more like a foreign country.

    Polk County Dude:

An impressive roster, and boom times for USF, which appears to have put its academics on a similar fast track. The Big East brain trust was canny in bringing USF into the fold.

One note I’d like to add: Fuck Ray-Ray Lewis. In a hole cut into his throat. Guy watched from close range as his buddies knifed a barber to death, or so says a friend who was at some of the post Super Bowl afterparties in Atlanta that year. Then Ray-Ray clammed up when the law tried to sort out the mess. What a stand-up guy! Ray-Ray should have done time. Actually, prison rape woulda been too good for that piece of shit. Besides, he might have liked it.

That game was well beyond bering merely “sloppy.” That was near chaos. I doubt USC was impressed.

OMG. Nearly every team in the AP Top 10 got killed today. LSU was down for almost the first half before they got pissed off and creamed Tulane. And Florida’s not impressing anybody this first quarter. Ye Gods. By the end of it, are we gonna see Kentucky at Number 4?!?!?! KENTUCKY! AT 4?!?! (faint)
