Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Consistently wrong since 2002

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

Infrastructure week. at last.

Being the leader of the world means to be the leader of peace.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

A Senator Walker would be an insult to the state and the nation.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

This blog will pay for itself.

I am shocked, shocked to find out that Republicans refused to even investigate any of the GOP officials implicated along with Don Siegelman in Alabama. Using law enforcement to promote your political agenda would be illegal.

the legality of something is relevant only to the extent that the law is enforced.

someone like Leahy writing another stern letter ? meh. that’s not really enforcement.

Ah, the modern GOP doctrine of law-and-order. You aren’t guilty until you are convicted by an all-Republican Jury with a Republican-appointed Judge through a Republican DA. And you retroactively become not-guilty when the President pardons you.

If the Republicans say you are innocent, legally speaking, who’s to argue? I’m surprised they even let Democrats practice law, what with them legally being wrong all the time. Can’t we just let the Decider make the decisions on this sort of thing?

“I do not have a recollection of the amounts that you describe as having been contributed by Lanny Young or his associates to my campaign,” Pryor wrote in an e-mail to TIME.

I used to think Reagan was unlucky when he got Alzys. Now, it’s clear. Just being a Republican period leads to severe memory loss, and ultimately, I’m guessing, Alzheimer’s…

Unfortunately, my response at this point is “so what?” The Democratic leadership is going to ask for documents relating to this case, the Justice Department will refuse to turn them over, and nothing will ultimately come of it because Lindsay Lohan will get out of rehab right around the time this stuff starts peaking.

    Punchy,

Hey! Maybe we will get lucky and the repubs will forget to vote in 2008!

Actually I am shocked. I never realized just how much these guys revered Stalin.

Yeah, the appalling part is that nothing will come of it. There are no Republican office holders with any principle or Democratic officeholders with any balls. This is the kind of corruption that used to be associated with third world kleptocracies like Zaire.

I think there are more Democrats with balls than there are Republicans with principles but those Democrats with cajones are still to few and not in leadership positions. While those Republicans with principles are quiting to go write books and reminisce about the good-ole-days.

Yeah, the appalling part is that nothing will come of it.

That’s not quite true guys. Requesting documents pertaining to illegal activity is one thing, but when that illegal activity puts someone behind bars, that’s quite another. Regardless of whether Congressional Democrats want documents are not, a forum will remain for the case as long as Siegelman continues to appeal his conviction. The publicity is different.
