Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

We still have time to mess this up!

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Ron DeSantis, the grand wizard, oops, governor of FL

Peak wingnut was a lie.

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

The willow is too close to the house.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Glad to see john eastman going through some things.

Everybody saw this coming.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

I was promised a recession.

In short, I come down firmly on all sides of the issue.

Cole is on a roll !

The GOP is a fucking disgrace.

Too Funny

FacebookTweetEmail

This may be the funniest thing I have ever seen:

Effective immediately, new users may *not* shill for Ron Paul in any way shape, form or fashion. Not in comments, not in diaries, nada. If your account is less than 6 months old, you can talk about something else, you can participate in the other threads and be your zany libertarian self all you want, but you cannot pimp Ron Paul. Those with accounts more than six months old may proceed as normal.

Of course, those who post at Red State with accounts more than six months old amount to Leon, Erick Erickson, Ben Domenech, Rush Limbaugh’s intern, the frothing fucking lunatic who now pretends to be Moe Lane but simply can not be the same person who posted with that account a couple years ago, four members of the House who haven’t been told people laugh at Red State, a few members of the Lavender Bund, Tom DeLay’s former chief-of-staff, the founders of the Victory Caucus, and some drunk guy who posts from a DC Public Library, who may or may not have been the inspiration for the movie Conspiracy Theory.

Everyone else with an account that old stopped reading them or reads them now only to giggle and mock. The remainder of the folks who have tried to post at Red State got banned within a week of forming their account for “trolling,” which is loosely defined as saying anything about Bush or Republicans that would not make it onto the front page of a knob-slobbering, Bush-worshipping Hugh Hewitt post. Really, try it for yourself.

In other words, Red State is banning the mention of Ron Paul. Why? We aren’t sure, but let’s go for the all-purpose answer at Red State:

“THE DEMOCRATS ARE WORSE!”

*** Update ***

In somewhat related news, this important announcement on Tom DeLay’s blog:

TomDeLay.com is making room for upgrades and a new announcement! Please check back soon for details.

I am sure you all are as excited as I am.

You know, Ron Paul and I agree on precisely one issue (granted, it’s the biggest issue of the moment), but I think it’s absolutely awesome the way he is causing the wingnuts to go apoplectic and do shit like this just because Paul acknowledges the reality of Iraq instead of hiding behind wingnut-approved talking points. It’s fucking great to watch.

I concur completely. I would never vote for him for President (sure love him in the House raising hell, and love him at the debates stirring things up), but the way he gets these guys to react is PRICELESS.

Last I checked, we live in a Democracy. Which… means stuff. But we’re in a market economy based on private property. Which… means other stuff.

It’s always fun to see conservative concern trolls bounce between “Serious Discourse Only!!1!” and “You’re squelching my right to talk about the murder of Vince Foster whydoyouhateAMERICA!”

I’ll give RS points for this at least. They continue to have a functional site in the face of repeated blanket bannings every Friedman or so. I only wish I could start a webpage where one of my biggest problems was all the people I had to boot.

Hey! Carp for yourself, Cole! Yrs truly has an “old” RedState account – I got mine via Josh (Tacitus) Trevino’s old blog when the RS crew started up. Of course, that was back before RS became the Internet equivalent of Skull & Bones; back when Josh (as well as Moe Lane) used to post stuff on the blog that wasn’t just repetetive, nasty neo-Stalinist theo-fascist sniffery.
    *Sigh*

Anyway, I guess this means I could go over there and shill for Ron Paul if I wanted to. God knows why I’d want to, though: Moe or Erick would probably just blam me for the fun of it.

I think you need a new tag: Redstate Stupidity. It’s been strong with them lately. Bonus ease being the tag and site have the same initials.

I actually like Leon, who really is a decent fellow (as are most of the folks who have posted there in the past and some who still do). Erick Erickson is actually pretty damned funny, and while he posts a lot of stuff that infuriates folks (me, at times, too), he doesn’t take himself very seriously.

Moe Lane, however, seems to have lost his mind. And Jeff Emmanuel can blow me (especially since he seems to think I am some violent homophobe).

I think his keyboard gets stickier everytime he bans someone, hence the repetition.

The same group of mental midgets who cry about Vince Foster, black helicopters, ATF raids, freedom being “taken away” by the Clintons, hatred of tax and spend, etc, etc are the same morons who love the Patriot Act, perpetual war, deficit spending and Blackwater patrols.

I ask these people this…do you not see the very people you love so much are truly WORSE for you in these areas than the Dems or an independent/libertarian candidate? Argh, it makes me so mad…

Where did all these militia loving freaks go to? Before Clinton left office it seemed more and more of them were popping up everyday! Why are they not concerned about Blackwater setting up a possible training facility on US soil? Do they not realize that Blackwater is a FOR HIRE organization? Who’s to say these folks (who aren’t regulated) don’t wind up doing somebody else’s bidding at some point in the future?

I noticed that they are building a new facility in SoCal somewhere. In this facility will be a training area for “urban warfare.” Why do they need this if they only want to work the border? Is it because Bush would use these people in place of the Guard for emergencies? Would he use them when/if he declares martial law as stated in his most ludicrous of Executive Orders?

Why is it these folks won’t ask these questions? Is it because they have some irrational hatred of people who aren’t as conservative as them?

Here’s the whole comment. It was during the Benji fiascso.

Should the entire American Left fall over dead tomorrow, I would rejoice, and order pizza to celebrate. They are not my countrymen; they are animals who happen to walk upright and make noises that approximate speech. They are below human. I look forward to seeing each and every one in Hell.

To those conservatives who couldn’t wait to find wrongdoing where none existed: Gee, funny you didn’t get all hyped up about this with Bob Bork. Or Sam Alito. I guess maybe your common sense detector — or decency reserve — only kicks in when it gets you something you want?

You’re all dead to me, as well. Too bad: One lady in particular was a favorite writer of mine. Ah, well.

You have to go here to find it because the “Directers” sanitized it. That’s hardly surprising.

Of course, that was back before RS became the Internet equivalent of Skull & Bones

Wasn’t RS founded to be sort of the conservative equivalent of DailyKos? An open community site useful for blogging, organizing, and fundraising? What the hell happened to it? (I wouldn’t have a clue as I’ve only visited it a couple of times.)

Some may have issues with him but at least he’s honest, willing to stick to his principles and cares about the constitution.

Same reason I like Huckabee (his persona, not his politics), despite my DemonRAT!!1 membership card. The man seems honest and up-front, at least. But yeah, Paul is the gift that keeps on giving. Especially since he’s not having much of a problem raising money, and seems to be regarded as something of a rock star among a lot of younger people.

Lately they’ve gone to (v): Rewriting the off-message comment and banning so the assembled can collectively giggle while getting off on the blam. Gotta love that Big Tent smell at RS.

I think one of the funnier banning tirades was done by Leon. Brownback had switched his vote on immigration within the span of about six minutes. Some of the commenters were using the flip-flopping label and making fun of the Brownbackster. Leon didn’t see the humor. Blaming carnage ensued.

But Leon sure added to the humor when trying to defend Brownback’s votes. He said something like while he probably wouldn’t change an issue position within the span of just six minutes, “Brownback marches to a different drummer.” LOL! I think his talking zygotes would agree.

I read RS sometimes mainly for the comedy. Much of it delivered unintentionally which makes it even better.

The funniest things I’ve ever seen on RedState were the Ben Domenech plagiarism threads. Minute by minute, as the evidence piled up, they got more and more psychotic, blaming the damned lying liberal stalkers, the editors that inserted stolen material into Ben’s articles without telling him, the right-wingers who were abandoning Ben in his hour of need, and the vicious bastards who were attacking him with no evidence. And naturally they threatened to ban anyone who mentioned his obvious guilt. When Domenech finally came clean, not a word about the pathetic lies he’d been telling up until then, just admiration for a real standup guy.

There are a ton of things that he and I disagree on and he has said things that piss me off. But in the current world of new Republicans he is an alright guy. He has gone farther than almost all of them in defending Democrats from the bigger bs attacks thown at us. I spent a lotta time with Moe over at Tacitus back in the old days, and for cryin’ out loud, he put up a picture of my newborn daughter during the first few weeks Obsidian Wings was up and running. Hell, you won’t hear me say anything bad about any of them, really. You all are probably forgetting that it was in a thread DEFENDING Ben Domenech that the “Jane Hamshers of the Left” was born. And Leon Wolf really is a good guy.

Well, John, you can say this:

I actually like Leon, who really is a decent fellow (as are most of the folks who have posted there in the past and some who still do).

But as someone who was personally banned by Mr. Leon Wolf, I’ll just have to disagree. And all I did was try to defend Goldwater conservatism (this was in late 2005, I think, though I can’t find the e-mail “blam” right now).

The man is uptight, prissy, and full of himself. Even by blogger standards. He’s clearly got no fricking idea how the Pharisee wing of the GOP, panty-sniffers and Pecksniffs all, is killing Republicanism west of the Rockies. And he’s pretty arrogant about it, which would be amusing if the party weren’t simultaneously taking the country over the cliff.

    > Same reason I like Huckabee (his persona, not his politics), despite my DemonRAT!!1 membership card. The man seems honest and up-front, at least.

Does it matter that Huckabee has a problem with comparators, eg., arguing that 1 out of 54 equates to “most”? Is he innumerate, ignorant, dishonest, ill informed, or simply pandering to the prejudices of his audience? And, as David Brooks has noted, he comes across as the sanest, most decent, indeed most electable, of the Republican field. This is the best the Republicans have to offer?

    From http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/056664.php:

I’ve sort of gotten tired of explaining that, no, the Founding Fathers
actually weren’t all born-agains and bible thumpers. Not
hardly. (Probably better to say that the great majority ranged from
believers in an entirely impersonal God — Deists — to believing
Christians who nonetheless viewed popular religious enthusiasm with a
polite and paternal disdain.) But presidential candidate and former
Arkansas Governoer Mike Huckabee, himself a Baptist minister, actually
told a crowd yesterday that “most” of the signers of the Declaration
    of Independence were “clergymen.”

As these folks at Politifact.com point out, one out of 56 were clergymen.

It’s a creative definition of ‘most’.

The best one from politifact is this one.

    “The president is brain-dead.”

Joe Biden on Wednesday, July 4th, 2007 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Irresponsible claim (and wrong medical diagnosis)
    Pants on fire!

During a campaign stop in Iowa on July 4, the six-term senator declared, “This guy is brain-dead.”

It’s an extreme charge, since brain death is defined as “irreversible unconciousness with complete loss of brain function” (Encyclopedia of Death and Dying).

Needless to say, we find the charge ridiculous. There’s no evidence Biden performed the necessary medical tests to make such a diagnosis. We would have accepted the results of a cerebral blood flow study or proof that Biden had examined Bush to see if he had an oculocephalic reflex.

Indeed, even people who disagree with the president about Iraq and assorted other issues will acknowledge that the president has spontaneous respiration and is responding to stimuli.

Just thought I’d share. This is the kind of crap I hear all the time from Ron Paul fanatics:

Ron Paul is has and will never be endorsed by Stormfront. This is an obvious ploy from the Nazi wing of the conservative Republican party who props up Bush as the second coming of Jesus to discredit a pro-peace candidate.

Repeat……Stormfront is only trying to discredit Ron Paul by attaching his name to their hate group. Don’t believe the neo-con-fascio-ultra right wing koolade Conservative Republicans.

Don’t believe a single word Word Press propagates. It’s not remotely close to the truth.

This after I linked to pro-Ron Paul threads on Stormfront and posted a current image of a Ron Paul donation link that’s on every page at that site.

The Paulunatic then claims that it’s all an elaborate conspiracy of the neocon cabal trying to smear Saint Paul and that white nationalists would never endorse him. 450+ posts in a single thread about RP are all fabrications by white power neocons in disguise, or something.

Left wingers are always complaining about the warrantless wiretapping and loss of privacy. They don’t see that we’re fighting a war against a bunch of guys in caves who are going to force everyone to wear burkhas. Bush has to take away your rights to ensure that other people don’t take them away.

Turkey has promised to come to Kurdistan to fight the PKK. Thus, we have to bomb our allies in order to ensure that other people don’t bomb them.

Afterward, we’ll mount a “hearts and minds” campaign until 51% of Kurds are pro-bombing, and then – well, who cares what happens after that?

Of course, it appears that blamming has gotten much much worse these days. But even then it was like trying to have a discussion with a bunch of impatient jack-booted thugs. Open disagreement was NEVER tolerated, and people were frequently threatened with a blam if this or that rule was violated.

Oh, yeah…”Enhanced Interrogation”. Sounds like they’ve added some vitamins to it so it meets one’s minimum daily requirement of something beneficial – like “Iron” maybe. One more point on “censorship”. You can start with “objectionable words”, but from there it is but a small step to “objectionable ideas”…as defined by the censors, of course. So on Red State “slippytoad” is banned or censored for “objectionable words”…seemingly a supportable rationale to some folks, but before you know it Demosthenes finds himself banned for “guarded disagreement” with Red State’s arbiter’s of “acceptable commentary”. Once the boundaries of what can and cannot be said are defined to suit the mind-set of the “decider’s” it’s pretty easy to formulate a consensus among the remaining folks that reinforces their pre-conceived notions and allows them to cluck & nod their heads in agreement.

And yet these same clowns have the gall and audacity to toss around words like “Freedom” as those they have any understanding of what it means.

So let me just say with all due respect, Fuck those assholes, they wouldn’t know “Freedom” if it bit them on the dick.

Damn it! Just as I hit the “Submit Comment” my eyes catch a grammatical fuck-up. Sometimes proof-reading something three times is just not quite enough.

That Salon link is comedy gold, Alan.

“”He’s a mean shit,” says Goldberg of Robinson, once her partner in exposing Clinton crimes. She launched her own Web site, Lucianne.com, taking “2,000” Freepers with her, she says. “I am not anti-abortion, I am not Y2K either.”

An unbowed Robinson, meanwhile, says he wishes Goldberg and the other defectors well, and is looking forward to Freep’s July 24 “Treason is the Reason” rally in Lafayette Park across from the White House. The gathering will feature the political odd couple of Georgia Republican Rep. Bob Barr and left-wing Clinton-loathing columnist and Salon News contributor Christopher Hitchens.

    Too funny.

Yep, there’s deep murmurings reverberating through the DC malarial feverish jungle canopy like them crazy drums and pointy-head pundits that never stop. When I asked (or axed if you’re stupid or have lousy taste in music) somebody if the drums ever stop, they replied, “No. Very bad when drums stop. Then we get bass solo!”.

Okay, bad joke. Anyway, have you ever seen those lists of all the elements in the human body and how much they would be worth if you could cook them down, extract, and sell them? The gist of it is that we’re all made of mostly oxygen, hydrogen and carbon with small amounts of stuff like potassium and phosphorus thrown in for flavoring and color, and altogether our component elements are worth a little less than a dollar, assuming you could find a buyer for tiny amounts of easily obtainable elements. Well, we’d have to take a loss on this seven year disaster (don’t know if it’s tax deductible) but it just might be time to accept a tolerable level of loss and throw Boosh, Chainy, the whole Republican congress, and, ah hell, let’s throw in Coulter and her adam’s apple, any employee at Faux, and even Rush (careful, don’t strain yourself – don’t know if it’s covered by rip-off insurance), and see if we can walk away from this disaster of stupendous proportions with enough chump change in our pocket for a twelve pack of Schlitz and a pound of head cheese. Hell, the resultant hangover and intestinal upset would be tolerable if I didn’t have to gaze one more time upon the slack-jawed mouth-breathing Gimp attempting to thrash out some brain dead 3rd graders half-baked glue-inspired “thoughts”.

    John mentioned:

In other words, Red State is banning the mention of Ron Paul. Why? We aren’t sure…

Oh, c’mon! It’s obvious. Ron Paull is banned because he’s a Republican.

I don’t know what these current 24%ers who call themselves “Republicans” really are, but they’re not conservatives. They want huge government, big spending, eternal war, a police state, zero privacy, a charismatic ultramacho leader with dictatorial powers, they want to spy on every citizen, they want to bug and wiretape every man, woman and child without a warrant and without cause, they want to tear up the constitution and shred the Bill of Rights… That’s not a Republican. I don’t know what that is. Royalist? Brownshirt? Apparatchik of the Soviet Central Committee? Taliban? Who knows? But it sure ain’t a Republican.

Republicans believe in individual responsibility, the right to privacy, fiscal responsibility, small government, sharp limits of government powers, the rule of law, and most of all, the right of the individual to be left alone as long s/he’s not bothering anybody.

Sounds like what Ron Paul believes in. It’s sure as hell not what the 24%ers believe in. So, of course, they’ve banned him. Ron Paul refuses to salute their charismatic leader and attend their torchlight rallies. Just more proof of how completely the party which now calls itself “Republican” has abandoned every single conservative principle known to political philosophy.

    Good news!
    I have a redstate account!

It’s over two years old and I have never ever used it since I signed on 2 years 51 weeks ago.

So I can talk about Ron Paul there.

    Just to piss people off.

[…] So yeah. I’d say that to the average right wing blogger, John has tacked left. It’s hardly for “thinking aloud” that he’s derided by the conservative bloggers…it’s for calling them things like “frothing fucking lunatics”. John’s been doing that to someone or another for a long time, though, and he’s always had a pretty thick skin when it comes to being counterattacked. I’m not sure what help Sullivan thinks he’s being here. […]
