Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

In my day, never was longer.

Trumpflation is an intolerable hardship for every American, and it’s Trump’s fault.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

In after Baud. Damn.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

I like political parties that aren’t owned by foreign adversaries.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Humiliatingly small and eclipsed by the derision of millions.

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

He wakes up lying, and he lies all day.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

I really should read my own blog.

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

A fool as well as an oath-breaker.

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

Daniel Larison: “It’s a bad sign for RedState when Kossack diarists are more politically astute than the RedState folks.”

*** Update ***

I know when I am beaten:

The student paper at GW interviewed Horowitz on ‘Islamofascism Awareness Week’ and he seems to have let the cat out of the bag about the goal behind the event.

“I’m a prominent conservative but no one is inviting me to speak at their campuses,” Horowitz said in an interview with The Hatchet. “I had to create an event.”

Hmmm…someone once said that redstatecom makes a lot more sense if you think of it as a complete shill for GWB and the republican party in general, rather than a site that tries to promote “conservative” ideas and principles. Now they’ve devolved down to being a complete shill for GWB and whoever ends up winning the GOP nomination.

The thing is that there were trolls over at Red State describing themselves as Ron Paul supporters who deserved to be banned, but there were also quite a few legitimate Paul supporters — true libertarians — who argued vorciferously that the GOP had lost its way. Red State despised all of them, while claiming that the problem was just trolls.

Its not as if DailyKos doesn’t have a significant troll presence… it does. But Kos has built a community of “watchers”, and created a user rating system that bring trolls to the attention of the watchers — and obviously trollish behavior results in deleted diaries and banning.

Since Kos has shown the way in dealing with the troll problem, Red State’s actions can only be interpreted as fear of being confronted on a daily basis with the contradictions between the principals Red State claims to support, and the candidates and causes that are actually supported.

RedState simply is no longer for conservatives. It’s for Bush synchophants only. You cannot go there as a fiscal conservative and rail on Bush’s spending policies without getting banned. You cannot go there as a “small-government” conservative and shred Republicans for all the spying, drug bill, etc crap they’ve allowed without getting banned.

Basically, unless you think John Bolton is the answer for all this country’s ills, you’re banned.

Redstate is the last bastion of the 24%’s:

    Domestic Policy: Know Nothingism.

    Foreign Policy: Christian Zionism.

    Everything else is negotiable.

Is it true they picked the name “Red State” because their faces get flushed from a lack of oxygen when fellating Dear Leader?

It’s really becoming less and less about “left vs. right” or “red vs. blue” and more about “sane vs. insane.”

I just wish the “insane” still didn’t have their hands on so many levers of power.

That’s just wholly and simply fucking Pathetic. It’s lamer than having to throw your own Birthday Party because nobody else will.

“Islamofacism” served up as a prop for David Horowitz’s masturbatory self-promotional exercise.

Thanks, Dreggas – it’s always fun to get Free Tickets to the Circus…’cuz everybody just LOVES to watch the clowns.

To say the moral and intellectual bankrupts at Redstate are merely not “politically astute” is more than an understatement.

It is an insult to the genuinely politically ignorant.

    One quote defines Redstate.

    Streiff: “Dissent is overrated.”

“I’m a prominent conservative but no one is inviting me to speak at their campuses,” Horowitz said in an interview with The Hatchet. “I had to create an event.”

Seriously folks, you can’t make this stuff up. I’ll be here all week, try the fish, don’t forget to tip your waitress.

One would think this kind of thing is manufactured, Domenech-style, but then when Malkin’s peeping through people’s windows to speculate on their countertops, nothing is beyond the nut-o-sphere.

This classic piece about Horowitz from 2001 suddenly seems apropos. First graf:

One thing you can say for David Horowitz: After almost 40 years of work as a political journalist, after a career in activism dating back to the civil rights struggle, after courting both Black Panther and GOPac tiger, after a miraculous conversion from the radical left to the woolly right, after writing books and columns beyond number, he is now capable of outwitting a bunch of college students.

My sugggestion for QOTD (also from TPM)

Rudy on whether waterboarding is torture:

“I’m not sure it is, either,” said Rudy. “It depends on how it’s done. It depends on the circumstances. It depends on who does it.”

And as for the media, Rudy said they’ve exaggerated the nature of waterboarding.

“Sometimes they describe it accurately. Sometimes they exaggerate it,” Rudy said. “So I’d have to see what they really are doing, not the way some of these liberal newspapers have exaggerated it.”
