I have talked about it before, but I want all of you to check out Brian Linse’s new flick, Before the Devil Knows you’re Dead:

Here is a sampling of what Rolling Stone had to say about it:
Give props to Sidney Lumet. His influence is everywhere. American Gangster is just the kind of film this prince of New York City would have directed in the 1970s. And Tony Gilroy’s Michael Clayton owes much to Lumet’s Network and The Verdict. So it’s a kick that Lumet, 83, puts the younger mavericks to shame with a dynamite film that ranks with the year’s best.
Here is a trailer:
More can be found here.
Check it out. Brian is a good guy, and has given two+ years of his life to this project- that alone was worth it to me to check it out.

I’ll definitely check it out. BTW, I’ve already seen American Gangster. It’s really good.
Also BTW, you’re missing a “h” at the beginning of your Rolling Stone link.

IIRC this film was covered on Fresh Air recently but I can’t recall if it was a movie review or an interview with Sidney Lumet.
One of the reasons this is my favorite time of year, is that this is when all the good (Oscar-worthy) flicks come out!

ooooh… after reading the tagline, “No one was supposed to get hurt”, I remember the plot twist discussed on Fresh Air. No, not gonna spoil it for ya but man is it good and any flick with Philip Seymour Hoffman is, by definition, worth seeing.
OK, maybe Magnolia, not so much.

Jesus I listen to so much NPR (sure sign of an IslamoPinkoCommieDemoHomoFascist) I can’t recall where I heard which stories.
It was on All Things Considered last week.

As I said before, I saw it in September at the Toronto International Film Festival. I enjoyed it, but I was hoping for so much more based on Lumet’s past work.
It also has a very interesting narrative structure, and I thought it owed a little to Tarantino (who owes a lot to Lumet, so fair’s fair).

Although it took me weeks to scrub the visual of PSH’s flabby ass bouncing up and down on Marisa Tomei in the opening scene.

Already saw the trailer (via Ain’t No Bad Dude), and it looks great.

It’s the one film I’ve been waiting to see. Anything by the man who did both “Dog Day Afternoon” and “Network” must be savored. Plus, so far all the buzz I’ve seen says this has written Oscar all over it.

And lest I seem too negative, let me say that the acting in the movie was fantastic. Ethan Hawke plays an *awesome* milquetoast loser totally bullied by his aggressive brother PSH. Of course, I choose to see him that way anyway – I mean, who divorces Uma Fucking Thurman? [Plus, he got to play with Angelina Jolie’s Jubblies in a Montreal movie and I’m jealous]

I take it you’ve seen Borat? I think only death itself will cleanse my neurons of the image of Ken Davitian teabagging Sacha Baron Cohen…

Has anyone seen Eastern Promises? What’s the verdict on that one?
