Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

This blog will pay for itself.

I conferred with the team and they all agree – still not tired of winning!

People are complicated. Love is not.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

How can republicans represent us when they don’t trust women?

The lights are all blinking red.

In my day, never was longer.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Their boy Ron is an empty plastic cup that will never know pudding.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

I’m sure you banged some questionable people yourself. We’re allowed to grow past that.

The willow is too close to the house.

It’s easier to kill a dangerous animal than a man who just happens to have different thoughts/values than one’s own.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

“But what about the lurkers?”

Fight for a just cause, love your fellow man, live a good life.

Interesting Tech Tidbit For The Day

I just found out that you can embed polls from the weblog awards on a homepage. Cool.

Supporting us won’t get you a damn tote bag, but you will get regular beer blogging again. And we both know that you can’t get that on NPR.

BTW, during sweeps week this is what counts as an open thread.

***Update***

To the top! BTW, if you haven’t voted lately consider tossing some votes to the Jawa Report instead because (1) I feel responsible for getting them bumped from the conservative category, and (2) nobody seems to know what happened to one of their comments here.

***Update 2***

Seriously, I promise that I won’t bump it again.

I think, unlike your competition, you guys have assiduously refused to pimp your blog. Now that you’ve got an embedded poll, it’s much easier to vote for you. And you’re actually closing pretty quickly on Red State, so keep it up fellas…

Speaking of “interesting” blogs — RawStory has decided that Blogs4Brownback is a spoof site. I wonder whether we’ll be hearing from Psycheout soon, or if his head will have exploded in rage.

You guys can laugh at them not picking it up, but if we had not received our advanced degrees (even though we were home-schooled here in the comments) in spoof from DougJ, many of you would think it was real.

Sorry, John, but I just don’t buy it. Word pattern is consistent with your repeated claim that the The DougJ (he whose name is multitude) is Peter Johnson, but he is not Psycheout, nor is he Sisyphus. Nothing I’ve seen on their blog has given me what I needed to convince myself that they were other than sincere.

Sorry, but this has been making me chuckle: Conservative Authors Sue Regnery Publishing Over Royalties. Seems these guys weren’t quite aware of how this cog in the wingnut welfare machine works. Regnery sells their books for damn near nothing to groups like the Conservative Book Club so that they can then say, “Look at how many we’ve sold! Conservative ideas are just too powerful!” It’s a little scamola to make the books look more popular than they actually are. C’mon, you got your advances already, what are you bitching about?

Oh yeah, the Regnery thing is going to be pure comic gold if it ever gets to the point of discovery.

As far as I’ve read so far, these idiots are bitching because THEIR BOOKS WERE SOLD AT A DISCOUNT. Oh horrors, bring on the fainting couch. Can someone please draw these clueless nitwits a standard demand curve? (And can someone please remind them that getting a lawyer versed in the publishing industry to read over contracts before they sign them is A Good Thing?)

Someone over at Kevin Drum pointed out that if these “best-selling authors” had the wit God gave geese, the $$$ they could get from speaking fees to the 28% would fully swamp any negation of royaties, so what are they complaining about….

The server at WA tracks user cookies(I’m guessing), but it doesn’t monitor IP address’. Setup new users on your PC to vote using as many users as you want. Using PHP code may allow hacking, but I’m to lazy to bother. Multiple users allows multiple votes.

Yeah, having a very hard time getting to the polling page…must be totally swamped. Yay, I think.

Regenery lawsuit … they are actually surprised that their books were being sold in bulk?

Wouldn’t the fact that excretions like “Unfit to Read…er, Command” were on the NY Times bestseller list be a bit of a tipoff? I mean how many people did you know who actually owned a copy?

  37. 37.

    srv

    November 7, 2007 at 7:19 pm

There’s a cookie. The polling page shows up only after 24 hours from your last vote. Otherwise, you get the results.

I think Zifnab’s cavalry call to Kos did the trick.

capazela, yay it is! We are in the lead with almost 1,000 votes over RedState! I notice that RedState took the embedded poll down from the top of the front page and are not pushing the vote among their members.

I thought this was a laugh:

Do you want to see RedState get the recognition it deserves so that it can continue to thrive and prosper as a community?

Do you want to see Jeff Emanuel receive the praise that he is due as an outstanding miliblogger?

Then vote. Vote early. Vote often. And tell your friends to vote early and often too.

    VOTE FOR REDSTATE HERE.

    VOTE FOR JEFF EMANUEL HERE.

Oh my! If RedState loses then they can’t thrive and prosper! Cool, another reason to go vote for Balloon Juice! ;)

Also, I have been voting GOS up and for any random milblogger that is losing EXCEPT Jeff Emanuel. Partisan hacks do not make good bloggers, and Jeff is about as hacked as they get.

I think Zifnab’s cavalry call to Kos did the trick.

I don’t want to sound like I don’t appreciate Zifnab’s effort on our behalf, but his diary had four recommends, maybe fifteen comments and it scrolled off the front page too fast to have an impact. What happened was that as soon as I embedded the poll on the front page our vote count took off and didn’t slow down for several hours. The effect that thing had is amazing.

Xanthippas was 100% completely right, and he probably deserves half of our fat prize check. At least I hope there is a prize check…

Glad to see all the right-wingers are enjoying their “Iwo Jima” moment. Looking a memeorandum, TWENTY-NINE references to Yon’s photo, almost all reprinting it, many repeating the talking poi… er… WWII connection, some even posting side-by-sides.

A few articles down the memeorandum list, a story about a surge in homeless vets. One in four US homeless are veterans. Funny, ZERO of the twenty-nine bothered to take notice.

Gotta love the way conservatives view their military; use ’em, abuse ’em, then lose ’em.

OH, BTW, I have no idea what you are talking about when you say, “Bumped Jawa from Best conservative category.” We were always the smallest blog in that category anyway. Always lost not that we cared much. I dunno that we’re all that conservative as a group either. I’ve been reading you off and on for years. I’ve never really considered Balloon Juice a “conservative” blog.

Anyway it’s looking like it’s about time for a concession speech.

All is fair in love and war but politics, now that is dirty.

Congrats and have a good one. Enjoyed running with you and Gateway and Red State.

If you strike us down, we will become more powerful that you can possibly imagine!
