Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

Hi god, it’s us. Thanks a heap, you’re having a great week and it’s only Thursday!

The time has come to close down FOB Orlando, and we are reluctantly migrating back north to Balloon Juice World HQ (Tunch will be happy- he has been staying with friends who have 5 cats of their own).

Consider this an open thread, and make sure you don’t miss this.

Have, or had? Tunch looks like the sort of cat who sees other cats as cat food.

Friends, a blonde and a brunette, are walking down the street and pass a flower shop where the brunette happens to see her boyfriend buying flowers. She sighs and says, “Oh, crap, my boyfriend is buying me flowers again…..for no reason.”

The blonde looks quizzically at her and says, “What’s the big deal, don’t you like getting flowers?”

The brunette says, “Oh sure…..but he always has expectations after getting me flowers, and I just don’t feel like spending the next three days on my back with my legs in the air.”

The blonde says, “Don’t you have a vase?”

A farmer in the country has a watermelon patch and upon inspection he discovers that some of the local kids have been helping themselves to a feast.

The farmer thinks of ways to discourage this profit-eating situation. So he puts up a sign that reads: “WARNING! ONE OF THESE WATERMELONS CONTAINS CYANIDE!”

He smiled smugly as he watched the kids run off the next night without eating any of his melons.

The farmer returns to the watermelon patch a week later to discover that none of the watermelons have been eaten, but finds another sign that reads: “NOW THERE ARE TWO!”

That is some good stuff there Dreggas…lol!

Well, election day came and went in Oregon, and the measures turned out the way I wanted them to and not what I expected, which was a pleasant surprise. Measure 49, which puts some controls back on property development, passed. I was kind of ambivalent about this measure, but I think it will be a good thing.

Measure 50, the 84.5 cent a pack cigarette tax, died a swift death. Around 60% of the state said that it was not right to tax smokers for poor children’s health care (and for a kitty of cash for the state). When looked at closely, it would have cut county money for the Oregon Health Plan by redividing the complete cigarette tax. This would have cut county funding by about 1/3 of the current rate. That was not too popular. But I was heartened to read that many people just thought it was not fair.

One note on Measure 50: Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore. 3rd district) said that this vote would be a good one that would show support for the nationwide S-CHIP plan. Well, he has been kinda quiet after this vote, as have been many other tobacco tax advocates.

I am not against the idea of health care for poor children. I just think it has to be funded by everyone and not have it dumped on a despised few. Want to tax something for kids health? Tax all products with High Fructose Corn Syrup in them. Tax the thing that is causing kids everywhere to turn in to roly-poly butterballs of fat. I have never seen so many overweight people at this time in my life. Fat used to be the exception, now it seems that it is the rule.

People who were pro-tobacco tax were making a big deal about the evil cigarette companies giving money to stop Measure 50. Well, tax HFCS and you will see McDonalds, Burger King, Wendys, Coke, Pepsi and every other crap food producer come out of the woodwork and give cash to stop the tax. The crap sweetener they are peddling has a far more profound effect on the health of people than smokers do.

Lets see how much support that idea would get. I am glad that Oregonians did not think the tax was fair. That was very refreshing.

Note: Why do people in Mexico and around the world get sugar in Coke, yet we get HFCS? Ask yourself what they know that we do not…lol!
