The will of the people isn’t the will of the people, except when it is the will of the people, in which case my will is really the will of the people, whether they know it or not. – Pete Guither, paraphrasing John McCain.

He sure is a straight talker, that John McCain.

On a related note, Guliani is Ra’s Al Ghul:

Does that mean John Edwards is Batman?

I love Pete. He and I go way back. We were the first two bloggers to focus solely on drug reform issues. I think he started only a couple of months before me. Now there’s so many that I barely even talk about reform on my original blog. I keep that one as a hideaway.
Thanks for the reminder. I haven’t caught up with him in way too long. I should be linking to him more myself.

This reminds me so much of the old joke about solar power: “We will have solar energy as soon as the utility companies solve one technical problem — how to run a sunbeam through a meter.”
There is only one reason why a doctor’s prescription drugs should be preferable to pot for pain relief for the sick and dying. Profit, making a few bucks off the last painful breaths of the dying.
Corporatist, authoritarian. Your modern Republican party.

Libby: Pete is always worth it on this issue, as is Radley Balko.

Oh c’mon Michael THIS is the quote of the day:
“It’s time to bring order to America’s skies,” President Bush

Hehe. Newsweek has hired Kos to write a column. He will be offset by Karl Rove.
Wingnuttia is upset, because they just realized nobody reads wingnut blogs.
The Other Steve
John McCain tastes amazingly like chicken.

Oh, plenty of people read them, it’s just that they laugh loudly while doing so. Readership != credibility. Although looking at those traffic graphs for “Blogs for Bush” you might have a point…
To be fair, most doctors aren’t against pot. It’s the anti-drug-nuts on (unfortunately) both sides of the political spectrum and the pharmaceutical companies to a less extent.
Believe me, as soon as some kind of pain reliever (including pot) is legal, big pharma or big agra will figure out how to grow it and sell it for a profit.
To claim that something is “natural” and therefore there’s no profit behind it is just silly. All those people manufacturing and selling homeopathic remedies or practicing acupuncture must be doing it for free, right?

I love Radley too. He’s done some tremendous work on the war on pain doctors and his law enforcement series is brilliant. He has the resources of Cato though. Pete does it without any real funding and his research work is just as impressive. They both rock.
If you’re interested in the issue, I’d also recommend my pals at DRCnet, they have a terrific weekly newsletter and Scott at Grits for Breakfast has a great blog. It’s sort of Texas-centric but still has a lot of value on a national scale.

Words that should send a chill down the spine of anyone who has to fly, ever.
I don’t know. Greatest Wah EvaH, Epic Struggle of Good v. Evil; They Want 2 Kill Us. And yet, the DoD has to figure vacationers into its exercise schedule. If I didn’t know better I’d say it sounds like someone is planning to make a quick get away.

Agree with Jake – it’s very scary that the Decider has decided to try and tackle this situation. I’m an agnostic, but I find myself saying, “God help us”.
The Decider decides, acts, things break or collapse, so my advice is “Look out below” here.
