Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

People are weird.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

Ron DeSantis, the grand wizard, oops, governor of FL.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you don’t.

I really should read my own blog.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

I’m more Christian than these people and I’m an atheist.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

Battle won, war still ongoing.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

“That’s what the insurrection act is for!”

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

I was confident that someone would point it out and thought why not me.

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

It’s not hopeless, and we’re not helpless.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

The Most Important Job In The Bush Administration

Now as always, the departmental Inspectors General:

IG investigators were astonished particularly by what transpired in the first ten days of [Maher] Arar’s detention. Well-defined procedures were not followed. The State Department was consciously kept out of the loop. Steps were taken to circumvent Arar’s rights, and particularly to guard against the prospect that a lawyer for Arar would challenge his highly dubious treatment through a habeas corpus proceeding. Who was at fault in this process? A group of very senior figures, mostly in the U.S. Department of Justice.

Justice Department figures, and particularly those who are fingered and criticized in the early drafts of the IG Report, have been frantic in their efforts to quash it. And they’re succeeding. That, I am told, is why the IG Report has not been finalized and transmitted to Congress.

Imagine the watershed if every one of these guys did their job.

Case in point, State IG Howard “family issues” Krongard. Somebody, please, try to defend this guy.

Victim of a liberal smear campaign. Someone is trying to sell a book. The Clintons did it first anyway. Why do you hate America??

And anyway, at least Krongard has the class not to threaten people with testicular violence, unlike some people I could name.

As the good book says, “I am not my brother’s keeper.” That’s the best I can do. Otherwise, you have to use that faulty memory thing. And that’s getting real old.

Honestly, what happened to Republicans? I mean, I never thought they actually hated the bill of rights, freedom of religion, a strong national defense (instead of a morally bankrupt one), and one-man-one-vote.

With all the Limbaughts, Malkins, Gonzales’s, etc., I don’t see how I ever thought they loved this country. They hate every thing about it. Is there a deserted island in the Pacific somewhere they can go to and live in their cheerful little stone-age until the ocean swallows them up???

Do we actually remember who said this in the Bible?

Cain! Responding when he was asked where Able was (after he had murdered him).

I think it means sort of something different than people use it for, although perhaps it is apropos in this situation?

I used to think the same thing, then bush came. Of course now I am learning the rot started much further back (see Vietnam, end of).

Identical twins, separated at birth. During the break he had to locate a genealogical service to determine if the other guy was indeed his brother. So you see, no bad faith here at all.

In the alternative, the brother had a sex change operation, was originally his sister. Understandable confusion when asked about his ‘brother’. Won’t happen again. We will all laugh about it someday.
