Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

If you are still in the gop, you are either an extremist yourself, or in bed with those who are.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

SCOTUS: It’s not “bribery” unless it comes from the Bribery region of France. Otherwise, it’s merely “sparkling malfeasance”.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

People are complicated. Love is not.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

Innocent people do not delay justice.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

Hi god, it’s us. Thanks a heap, you’re having a great week and it’s only Thursday!

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

You cannot love your country only when you win.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

I don’t have much interest in video games – I played Second Life and quit after an hour. I tried Warcraft and couldn’t underdstand it for the life of me – but Mass Effect looks like a complete evolution in gaming. I’m watching a special on it now on Sci-Fi. Any of you played it? It just looks, well, simply incredible. Photorealism is your word of the day.

Amazing how far we’ve come since Atari, huh?

Disclaimer: Atari always rocked, in my opinion.

WoW was a great game, if you were unemployed, living in your mom’s basement, and your idea of fun was managing a large guild of half-wits in a never ending quest ot acquire purple pixelated virtual items.

Allthough I did have a lot of fun ganking news in Darkshore… LOL.

I just bought it yesterday. Pretty awesome so far! But way more complicated than WoW ever thought of being…or, less user-friendly is probably a more accurate descriptor. But still pretty rad.

A great game? By that definition it was in-fucking-credible.

I’ve got a friend playing it right now. If he’s not pulling my leg, its everything you could hope for. Solid battle system. Big environment – dozens of solar systems and planets to explore. Amazing graphics, especially on HD TV. And generally fantasticness all around. Although, it still lacks some elements worth mentioning.

For recent candidates in the realm of realism, I’d give a solid nod to Crysis.

Actually, in this case it really is intelligent design.

Mass effect, that’s the one bioware was working on if I recall correctly, glad to hear it’s that good.

I want to try the conan MMO if only because it has “Rape” and “Pillage” features, or so I am told.

I’ve been playing it for a bit now and I’m going to write up a full review when I’m done but my quick short one goes something like this:

I no longer have an Xbox360, I have a Mass Effect machine. Sitting on my desk, unopened are Kane and Lynch: Dead Men, Crysis, Assassin’s Creed and I haven’t even bothered getting the new Mario game because I know it’d just be tossed on the pile, ignored.

You should know I’ve been waiting for some of those games for three years now.

Mass Effect is easily the best RPG ever made, it will certainly be a contender for every Game of the Year award and if you have a 360 you have no reason not to pick it up and if you don’t have a 360 you now know what to do.

I have a 360. I just don’t use it for games, because by and large I can’t stand playing games on a console anymore.

Pity they didn’t develop this for PC.

You kids got it so easy these days. When I was a kid we didn’t have any fancy Sony Playstations with high resolution 3d graphics, NO…. we had the Atari 2600 with games like Space Invaders and Asteroids and the graphics SUCKED ASS! Your guy was a little square, you had to use your imagination! And there were no multiple levels, there was just one screen forever and you couldn’t win the game; It just got harder and faster until you died… JUST LIKE LIFE!

    Props to Ernie Cline.

Hey, I still play angband. In fact, I jump back and forth between Assassin’s Creed, Angband, and Starcraft fairly regularly. Turns out visual quality doesn’t matter much compared to fun gameplay.

And Mass Effect is slick. Up there with Assassin’s Creed for game of the year. Even over Halo 3. It must make Sony very sad that the three best games of the year are all on the Xbox360, two of them exclusively.

Btw, the big furor over Mass Effect was its lesbian love scenes.

Ladies on Ladies only though, from what I understand.

The only games I care about are Baldur’s Gate, Planescape:Torment, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Civ IV, and the old Infocom games.

I also have a Call of Cthulu-based PC game which I haven’t played yet.

    Nah, I’m not a gamer.

The Mass Effect reviews I’ve been reading have generally been “woulda been brilliant except for the flaws”. I didn’t like KOTR, so I’m on the fence with it, but I’ll probably catch it on my next wave (finished Halo 3 and skipped Bioshock with that wave, just got Assassin’s Creed and Call of Duty 4, and the next wave will be Guitar Hero III and Mass Effect). Fortunately (and I usually don’t say this), CoD 4 supposed to be pretty short, so I can hopefully try out ME before the end of the year.
But on the downside, I’ve got maybe 5 hours left of Oblivion, and I’ve afraid I’ll never get to it with the quality of games coming out lately being so outstanding

It is your mission. As Commander Shepard BushCheney of the SS Normandy, you will take your elite recon squad across a galaxy in turmoil, in a desperate race to stop the return of an enemy without mercy. To stop this enemy, you must act without remorse, without hesitation, and outside the limits of the law. Your only imperative is to preserve the safety of civilized life in the galaxy – at any cost. You must become the tip of the spear of humanity, for you alone know the full extent of what is at stake if you should fail.

Think they got an advance copy?

Definitely enjoy my Civ — just got the new expansion pack for Civ IV. Am dying to try Guitar Hero, but can’t justify actually shelling out for the entire freaking system. Sigh.

Master of Orion is a good time too.

It will be out on PC in a year I think, generally any game made by MS exclusive for the 360 is set to be put on PC eventually (Gears of War, Lost Planet, Halo 2 etc).

The PC versions will have superior graphics and all the rough edges will be smoothed out by us early adopter’s bitching on forums so it’s not so bad waiting.
