Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

Fight them, without becoming them!

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

Peak wingnut was a lie.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

If you are still in the gop, you are either an extremist yourself, or in bed with those who are.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

If rights aren’t universal, they are privilege, not rights.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Humiliatingly small and eclipsed by the derision of millions.

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

This is too funny.

Maybe they would get more participation from the right-wing netroots if they promised the winner a tour of Graeme Frost’s castle instead of an Apple gift certificate.

Well, since the winger bloggers maintain these high purity standards and routinely purge anyone who doesn’t maintain the requisite ideological standards, it’s not too surprising they can’t muster anything more original than Attack of the Clones or, failing that, a Dem Trojan Horse.

the NRSC recently asked supporters to post videos saying what they were thankful for, and only got one response.

I can see why! Thanks for the link John and, of course, Great Orange Satan. I am maxbaer plus two minus what I spit on the monitor reading it.

The rightwing blogosphere is shooting blanks because their party treats them like inanimate tools. In a party where influence flows strictly in one direction I don’t see what could motivate me to keep showing up every day.

Also, the guys in the video at the link are hot…whereas Republicans just really are not. I don’t think that’s the main thing, but it could be part of it.

Ouch? It’s so hard to tell around here.

Authoritarian conservatives fail at producing internet videos for the same reason they censor their blogs, and for the same reason Bush hand-picks crowds.

They are afraid they will be booed.

It’s a lot easier to be a tool in the audience than a tool on stage.

What have the republicans needed activists for? What cause would a grass-roots activist further in the republican party? I mean seriously? Injustice? Equality? Raising Awareness? Those are all left-wing causes. The only cause I can think of conservative activists taking up is abortion. Everything else is handled by professionals.

I think this may explain the low response rate.

Any creative, talented Republicans who saw that shit must have jumped in front of a bus.

Oh, man, this was on Kos? I don’t see why they haven’t completely freeped the YouTube poll yet. Y’all need to do your part and get over there.

I am pretty sure “creative Republicans” is an oxymoron. I mean, they really hate gay people, and that can’t be good… I have noted this before so I apologize for repeating, but over on Malkin someone once made a joke about “pimp my camel” regarding the MTV stuff and at least 9 people commented on how hilarious that is. Seinfeld these folks are not.

    Seinfeld these folks are not.

They can be absolutely hilarious, but it’s usually unintentional. The 1/2 Hour News Hour comes to mind.

    November 26, 2007 at 9:25 pm

Yes, unintentional hilarity is good too. I mean, it’s really pretty sad. I kind of feel like pointing them in the direction of Huckabee and his Chuck Norris ad, you know, not that it was genius or anything, but just to give them a sort of bunny slope of humor to aspire to.

Or maybe they saw the prize and thought “I’d never eat that many apples, why can’t they make it $500 worth of Cheetos?”

Yes, Malkin’s cheerleader video, Atlas Shrugs “My Sharia”, “Bush Was Right”, the 1/2 hour news hour and now this. Republicans need to stick to manufacturing outrage – that they’re good at. Humor? Not so much.

Maybe some “Willie Horton” ads for the recent scandal with Mitt Romney’s appointed judge letting that murderer go… wait, not sure that’ll work…

    gypsy howell

    November 26, 2007 at 10:00 pm

Would a Republican even buy an Apple product? Seems like an odd choice for the prize.

I bet if they were giving away tasers they’d have got a better response.

Romney can use it to attack Massachusetts. It’s a real winner.

Gosh, that’s so sad…now I’m feeling sorry for them.

And the only theme they could come up with is an attack ad. They’ve completely given up on the concept of having a platform. It doesn’t even occur to them to pretend otherwise.

The lunatics are too busy looking for gay aborted Mexican drug smugglers, so there is no time to make a stoopid video. Seriously, this is really a laugh. Talk about the revved up right!

I also heard in the news today that Cheney has a heart, or at least they think that if he does have one then it is not working properly.

May I be the first to offer my services to taser Cheney over and over until I think the heart is running right. It may require hours of work, and thousands of reloads, but I am more than happy to help.

It is the patriotic thing to do.

That “Cool Dudes” video is very good my son and his friends talk like that all the time and they are very cool dudes! I am so proud that they are so well informed about what is going on in our country. You would not understand the value of making things true to life. I am sure Pam Atlas did not hear about this contest and that is a shame because she could make an excellent commercial. I think the NRCC would do well to run with a Pam Atlas commercial if the country could only see the kind of talent and intellect she brings to the Republican party it would be a good thing for America.

It’s not like Republicans are incapable of making content. Does anyone remember Al Gore’s Penguin Army? I mean, it certainly contained content. It was animated. I’m sure someone found it amusing.

So Republican content has precedent. But the Republican Party didn’t ask for mindless smear-jockeying and baseless accusations, they asked for pro-active slogans and affirmations of good will. And as the party faithful didn’t have anything nice to say, I guess they choose not to say anything at all.

I think its pretty simple. If they did something creative, ground-breaking, interesting, etcetra. The creator would be accused of being creative and therefore have The Gay. They assume all of Hollywood is gay, so they must assume anything interesting is too.

They should have started off with something simpler. Propaganda poster contest, or design a new uniform.
