Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

In after Baud. Damn.

Everybody saw this coming.

So many bastards, so little time.

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

GOP baffled that ‘we don’t care if you die’ is not a winning slogan.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

How any woman could possibly vote for this smug smarmy piece of misogynistic crap is beyond understanding.

Why do you want to know? Are you suggesting that he be swapped for the hostages? If so, I’m in favor provided that the hostages promise not to ever give him back.

IT’S A TRAP! CAUTION REPUBLICAN READERS!

Question: Is it immoral for an illegal immigrant in the US to have an abortion to prevent birthing an “illegal child of God?’

    Flicks through Talking Point Textbook.

Okay, it sez here that I ask “Are the child’s organs already secretly reserved for transplanting into needy rich, white folks?”

    If so, yes.

If not, then he (dealbreaker) has to be called Elian (dealbreaker#2)

Are we clear? Good. But don’t let anyone hear about this. We don’t want to be seen answering difficult questions, that would be neither fair nor balanced, and might bias the electorate against us.

Is it immoral for an illegal immigrant in the US to have an abortion to prevent birthing an “illegal child of God?

That depends, John! If an Illegal Child of God is born out of wedlock, that would make him an Illegitimate Illegal Child of God, therefore, worth aborting! But, if the Illegitimate Illegal Child of Guide is born in the USofA, and the Illegitimate Baby’s Daddy is a ‘Murican citizen, then that child would be an Illegitmate Half-Legal Child of God, and possibly worth saving – but only if they take a loyalty oath to the GOP!

Things get REALLY confused, though, when we are dealing with other religions – hence, you may have off combinations, such as a Semi-Legitimate Possibly Legal Child of Jehovah, or an Embargoed Illegitmate Child of Muhammed, or an Illegal Illegitimate Product of a Godless Unrecognized Homosexual Union.

It’s just too complicated for us mere mortals to understand! Therefore, we MUST vote for Huckabee, or declare Bush Emperor!

  44. 44.

or an Illegal Illegitimate Product of a Godless Unrecognized Homosexual Union.

    Uh…

OK, I could see parthenogenesis for the ladies and that would make the talevangicals implode. Cool. But the original instance of parthenogenesis involved Zeus hatching a full grown woman out of his head. No thankee.

    On a completely different note:

Don’t get a job as a teacher in Florida, because they won’t pay you if the market slumps.

Schools and local governments in Florida who routinely deposited excess money in a state run investment fund were stunned today when the state suspended withdrawals.

This is because the nimrods who ran the fund were “investing” in extremely risky SIVs. Word got out, there was a run on the fund, now the state has slammed the door shut.

Fortunately, some idiot is running around covered in road flares, threatening to get Hillary Clinton elected with too much media coverage. So I’m guessing this will never get past page A89 in the Grey Lady.

Aha! An open thread! Time to talk about the Duke Lacrosse rape case travesty!

Just kidding. Actually, I have an interesting guest post up today, Political Power in the Pulpit, written by the former mayor of Chillicothe, Missouri.

In it he relates how Mormon church officials pressured him in his capacity as mayor to give preference to their interests rather than those he was elected to represent. They even allegedly threatened him with excommunication if he did not!

He also wonders aloud if Mitt Romney ever had a similar experience as Governor of Massachusetts or if such pressure would be exerted on a President Romney.

I thought it made for interesting and thoughtful commentary. I hope some of you will too.
