Didn’t you hear Kornheiser? Bellicheck has to be the bad guy because Brady is too cute. Plus he’s a Michigan guy so I can’t possibly hate him. However, I am an Eagle’s fan so yeah I have to hate Bellicheck.

Btw, the Ravens seem to be making this as much of a game as the Eagles did last week, plus Boller (unlike Feely) hasn’t thrown an interception yet.

I don’t recall that, though I do remember Brady showing up at the SOTU. For what its worth, Peyton Manning gave money to Bush in 2004, and isnt Tony Dungy a known anti-gay bigot? I’m sure for whatever criticism of the Pats you can come up with, the Colts are worse.

I was just blogging about some thoughts I had about the 2008 Democratic primaries and stumbled into an NFL metaphor wherein Hillary Clinton was the Patriots and I hadn’t made up my mind which, of Edwards and Obama, was the Colts and which was the Steelers.

Now that I’ve stumbled onto the NFL metaphor, I’ll push it along for awhile. Hillary is kind of like the New England Patriots of the field – she has some gaudy stats, but she’s tainted with a lot of big money, a hint of dynasty, and a sketchy explanation for her war vote. At the end of the season, do you really want her wearing the ring?

Y’know, I felt bad for you about WVU’s loss till this post, John. Now I’m back to being pissed that WVU allowed such a crappy Ohio State team, who hasn’t played anyone all year, to have a shot at a title.

John, because no one wants to see the Pats go 16-0, it is acceptable for AFC North fans that don’t like Baltimore to root for the Ravens. I’m a Browns fan, and I’m pulling for them. In this instance, it is acceptable, though once the Pats lose any game we have to go back to hating everyone else in our division. I expect I’ll be pulling for the Steelers next week since I don’t think Baltimore can follow through with the inevitable Bellicheck “Fuck you!” scoring drive that’ll come late in the fourth quarter.

You know what would be sweet?

Pats win the AFC. The Cardinals – who, at 6-6 have a slim chance at a wild card berth – somehow make it to the Super Bowl, which is being played in their stadium. Home field advantage boosts the lowly Cardinals to a championship and ruins the Pats perfect season!

strange game – very emotional and back and forth — intense and tough. refs let all the receiver mugging go for 3 quarters than called it at the end. time-out was boneheaded, but so was pats decision to blow a first down play just before the 2-minute warning, for no gain. none of that was on the refs though. and a pass interference on 4th down against ravens D is a hard call to swallow but the replay showed it was there — altho that call has been ignored many times. hmm. then the TD catch could have been overruled — might have been the fairest thing since it would have put the pats at the goal line where they would have had to earn it. frankly, ravens could have tied it with a field goal if they had managed the final secs better. team got mad at coaches and it all went to hell. all in all plenty of tough breaks to go around.

No. Not a bad fan at all. At the Pittsburgh bar I was in last night everybody was rooting for the Ravens. Sure, it could be counterproductive since the Pats haven’t lost two in a row in like five years. But at this point I don’t care who beats them. It’s almost not so they get humbled, but so that their commentator cheerleaders who are so smug about them (Cris Collinsworth, Boomer Esiason) get shut up. I mean, you’d think those two were playing for them or ever played for them. I guess they want to make fans think they did instead of Cincy.

As a Colts fan I can say for sure that Dungy is some sort of anti-gay evangelical dude. Combine that with being rich and I’m pretty sure he’s voting Republican. Manning, while a better QB than Brady (it’s a close call), is not nearly as smart as Tom, so his donating money to W would not be a surprise. So, the Colts might be more Republican than the Pats, but look where they come from. Indiana hasn’t voted for A Democrat Presidential candidate since ’64.

Massachusetts, on the other hand, is the home of liberalism and revolution, yet your QB and World Series hero are campaigning for W? Disgrace.

Combine that with the Pats are the most disgusting bullies pro sports has ever seen (they are the Cobra Kai dojo of the NFL) and they make all the 70-3 Division 1 vs Division 2 college football games look equitable.

In conclusion, one could argue the Colts are worse politically, but at least they are class organization that refuses to bully or embarrass their opponents. Winning is fine.

By the way, Pats fans, weather seems to affect your offense. Any idea what the forecast will be in late January at Foxboro? Oops.

Really? Worse than the Oakland Raiders of some years back? Worse than the “Broad Street Bullies”, the Philadelphia Flyers? Methinks the hyperbole is a bit overblown. There’s a difference between being bullies and being that much better than most of the teams they’ve come in contact with.

Are they so much better than the Redskins that they needed Brady passing in the 4th quarter while up 42-0?

Regarding the politics, I completely agree you. I’m a baseball fan and if there’s one liberal Democrat in all of MLB, I have yet to read about him (that is also hyperbole, but I’m generalizing here). Sports heroes, in my mind, are forgiven for their politics.

Say what you will about the Colts, but, when they were 13-0, they got there by running the ball and sitting starters when they were up big. What the Patriots did was “wrong”.

P.S. They may be winners, but after watching watching Wes Welker last evening, some of them are little whiny girls. Was there a play where he wasn’t shoving someone after a whistle, complaining about being held, or crying that he was open?

Compare the different response between what happened in this case to Republicans. Democrats: A staffer is caught in a sting, immediately fired and the Senator says “we’re cooperating fully, no tolerance for this stuff”.

Republicans: Foley was framed, Larry Craig isn’t gay and has a wide stance, “we should have added more context”, Jeff Gannon said nice stuff about Bush, you’re criminalizing politics, etc.

Democrats can be guilty of the same crimes as Republicans, but because we don’t tolerate it, it doesn’t fester.

The message was ‘we play all 60 minutes’. They learned last year in the playoffs what can happen if you back off or play soft when you have a lead.

Sp far I’ve watched them against 3 teams with ‘frenetic’ defenses and all of them kept the Pats in check, Indy, Philly and Baltimore. Pittsburgh’s defense is faster than all of them IMO. Indy and Baltimore showed NE can is bad at stopping the run, Pittsburgh runs well. Philly showed some secondary issues for NE, Pittsburgh has a great passing game. This could be the week we lose.

True enough. Sarkozky in France would be to the left of Clinton if he ran in America, what with his continued support for the 35-hour work week, national healthare, and other work protections. He’s merely arguing that the transit workers shouldn’t get even more benefits than everyone else gets in France.
